As of yesterday evening, we have made the following change to the way product editing works.

If a product has already been derived then it can no longer be edited by its Creator. Product name, product description page can still be modified. We have not allowed price changes in the past so there is no change there.

In other words

Varsha makes Product A
DA5 derives from product A to make Product B
Varsha can no longer edit/change Product A unless she gets it unlocked by IMVU.
If Product A has not been derived from by anyone, then Varsha can edit it.

If such products do need to be edited, then the creator will need to file a help ticket with an explanation as to why they need to edit the product so we can unlock it. The product will be locked again upon editing and re-submission.

Though we do not see this happening, if for some reason IMVU makes a change requiring creators to make modifications to their products (meshes) then we will unlock all products to allow for those changes.

Why the change?

We have had several instances where a mesher with malicious intent has deliberately modified multiple products in their catalog in order to render all the derived products useless causing customer complaints for those deriving creators. Such products can not be changed back - even by IMVU.

We have monitored the product editing activity and instances of a product that has already been derived from are rare. For those legitimate situations where a mesher does need to fix a product, we will unlock them via help ticket process.

This change is effective as of August 3rd evening.

Ok, I see why you're doing this ,which is good as far as protecting texture artist from meshers who destroy products before they leave. Great, thank you for looking out for us.

However, are you saying that each time a mesher adds in a mesh, and may need to make a change , they have to contact customer service to have it unlocked, if it has no derives? What if it has derives and need changes?

Let's say Varsha makes a mesh
Da5 (1st derive)textures it,
Faby comes along and textures it(second derive) too but notices a flaw, after submission. Contacts Varsha.
Then what can Varsha do? Contact CS. How long would we have to wait ? Is it an immediate process or will it take time ( a few days)?

If the mesh has no derives it can be edited. If the mesh has been derived a help ticket must be filed.

Ticket speed is the same. No changes. VIPs are responded to faster then non. Thanks

Yes DA, i figured this out now, if i want to fix a mesh i have to send a help ticket explaining why or what i want to edit.

Just wow...lol...

Big change indeed....and yup..an almost overnight change...as i only edited an item yesterday..

I can see the reason for the change....but going to be a pain for me..a big change in the way I do things...

Even a simple node fix....arggg..head hurts thinking about it...

I am always editing a room as i work along....I cant imagin having to go though cs now....

I don't know what to say really!! i can see why its done, but there was no other way to save us not to go through cs routine just for a simple fix? this happens regularly, meshes get fixed all the time!

You could leave it hidden until you're done working on it? That way there will be no derives?

Varsha, does this apply if the only derive is from the creator of the mesh? Meaning I derived from my own product...can I still edit the mesh product after so long as nobody else has touched it?

I can understand the change in order to protect the derivers when this option is misused.

I do not see any plusses towards developers that actively keep their content funcitonal and edit them in a positive way to the deriver string that follows out of it.

It will slow down service we can and need to hand to customers. Specially as missvix already spoke of. When only for editing a pose or do minute changes without effect for the deriver...well it be disfunctional to obtain an active service.

I therefor advise a special developer help subject when tickets on this are put. And CS will need to see those as priority and service them daily to obtain customer service levels we need.

This is an inworkabl way of maintaining service level and fun at work on IMVU. It totally takes our the flexibility I need to be able to create here with pleasure and freedom of editing what sells and what not sells. To need to plan ahead on this is near to impossible and doesn't meet my style of working nor that I wish to hold for my future of meshes i want to drop on IMVU. This slowing down of this proces, simply takes out my fun to work here. Let stand the service level on more than 5500 products that need to function this way now. Is below my level of expectance and acceptance.

If this isn't solved than my last message here on the forum will go in effect. And it isn't a warning or a threat you need to do what you need to do,..but is this isnt turned back than I lay my focus on a different network than IMVU. 8 years of work down the drain with one single change. No it are multiple actions and changes and this is a final straw.

I think this is awesome news even tho I am sure it will task the meshers as well as CS.

Here's to hoping they enhance the help system in some way to handle the new influx of assistance required.



p.s. I hope someone squashes the claim another user made that CS changed his price on a derived item. We all know this isn't allowed.

How long will the product remain unlocked after we make the request?
If there is some sort of time limit on this, it will be ridiculously frustrating.
So from now on, if a glitch or issue is found in a mesh, customers have to wait until CS unlocks it so we can fix it? Since it takes 2 days sometimes to get an answer to a help ticket, I certainly hope we don't have a time limit to make necessary changes.

As per my original post, products will remain unlocked till they are edited and re-submitted - so there is no time limit.

This has nothing to do with selling VIP. DA5 was pointing out how the help ticket process works. All help tickets are answered within 2-3 days at the most but mostly even quicker than that.

Also, as I pointed out, this is not expected to be a routine occurrence based on the data we have monitored regarding edits being made to products that have been derived from.
