I get that that isn't really fair because it breaks the rules and takes credits away from people who are following the rules.
Credits? Many of the people who are hurt the most by these shady companies don't think in terms of credits, they think in terms of money, of working here to pay bills. Sorry, but I think anyone who doesn't care about someone's livelihood is a bad person.
Mesh factories are cancer. They kill creativity, fill the catalogue with a bunch of hue changed replicas and generally make ethical meshers wonder why they bother trying to compete when it's a hopeless cause.
Now that they are back pretending to be lone creators doesn't make it okay either.
Just a question along the line but not quite mesh factories...but what about meshers who make and sell their meshes...multiple copies, for others to put in the shop....just asking and not pointing any fingers.

I think file sales did more damage to the catalog than any mesh factory...my opinion of course.
There are all levels of creators.
Sometimes you have to choose your words wisely or you offend a little cupcake.
I like doing recolors with a "slapped" on texture. But I am not like Whims or Anry or Baraq and spend hours and hours every day texturing clothing meshes. I don't have the time nor the patience.
So - those factories made meshes that worked for me and my technique.
Keodi - you are a mesh MONSTER. I can't even begin to wrap my head around the hours you spend. And texturing YOUR products take me hours. It has to be a very special project to gain that from me. That's me though
Back to the OP...
I think the catalog is vast enough for you to find other people to derive from who have similar catalogs.
I seek out new meshes in the Catalog and Product section of the forums.

Personally,when I don't add my own textured outfits in my catalog, I pick from the old pros whom I've always derived from.
I always hunt for those who are crystalline clear with their maps and textures. I tend to prefer those who provide "overlay" maps because it leaves more room to my creativity (on of the reasons why I,my self, share those maps, to). It's a good guideline.
I prefer the easy, streamlined textures and meshes so I can see what I am doing and how it fits my avatar in Creator Mode. When I look for meshes, I still hunt down many of these types of meshes, however, now that I'm making my own textures from scratch too, I don't mind falling in love with a mesh that only provides the basic maps.
I think the end result for the majority of IMVU Developers is to make cash now-a-days, including me. I'm not making anything through IMVU itself. My File Sales are off and on - some good months, others not so good. So, really, my end days seem to be coming to. _________________

The tops that are full outfits - I can't find any derivable ones anymore! All of the creators that made them (I guess I will not list usernames but all of the meshers that meshed the popular outfits in shop search) are banned T _T; does anyone know what happened / are there any more meshers that make FULL outfits? T_ T
Searching the catalog in This Manner should help you find the Female Tops that are Outfits and Derivable. By sorting on the right hand side for the Lowest Cost should give the original meshes first. But, it may not give you the same products where someone has added something like a good Opacity Map or an Accessory of some kind. To find these, I would also sort by "Best Match" and look there.
By sorting Best Match you will find the products where people have added their own Opacity Maps, etc. Some are just mistakes and not really "new" derivables from the original product. These may only contain a change of Extra Cost to Derive :/
This is why you always, go back to the Parent Product (click "Derived from:" or "Derivation Tree") to look for the Maps, check if it has changed to a better (value added) product. Some who make special Opacity Maps to get a "new" product will forget to link the the Maps. Some may have something else added like an extra mesh, a purse or belt, boots, etc. for examples. Play with *all* the search settings.

Just to expand on this a little bit.
A lot of times creators will derive from a product, hide it, and derive from their hidden derive. When this happens, if you click on the "Derived from" link all you will get is a "product not found" return. So, you might assume that you cannot go back any further...that is not always true.
If you click on "Derivation Tree," you can go all the way back up the chain. This way, if someone derives, hides the derive, and derives off of themselves, you can easily see that AND easily get back to the parent product.
This is one of the many reasons I much prefer shopping via the web catalog. _________________
I liked a lot of the old meshes because there were some really nice shirt meshes that work perfectly for a lot of my ideas and I can't find anything comparable to some of them by existing meshers. I always check the derivs for derivables and a good number of nice ones just don't have any. For that reason; even if they were bad they provided unique meshes and personally, that fuels my creativity.
I feel like there could have been a better way to deal with them instead of banning. Maybe capping their earnings or the like. Because I honestly feel like IMVU is just stifling creators lately; between this and getting rid of being able to buy/derive from disabled creators shopping and deriving just aren't quite as fun now. _________________
