People who love the Cherokee indian culture, art, beliefs, history and the spirit of the proud people who survived the unthinkable; the Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of the Cherokee Indians from their ancestral home in the southeast to Oklahoma. The Cherokee people were an urban, Christian, agricultural, intermarried society who had supported the United States against other tribes. In the end this was all for nothing. Though prominent Americans like Davy Crockett and Daniel Webster spoke against Removal, and though the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional, President Andrew Jackson sent in the army. Fifteen to twenty thousand Cherokee Indians (along with Choctaw, Creek, and other tribes) were rounded up and herded to Oklahoma in the winter of 1838-1839. Driven from their homes without being allowed to collect their possessions first, even their shoes, the Cherokees were no better equipped for an 800-mile forced march than people today would be. Between four and eight thousand Cherokee people died of exposure, starvation, disease, and exhaustion along the Trail of Tears.

The Soapbox
Dear friends. I originally did not post rules because I thought we were all adults who would respect each other and therefore, needed no rules, but unfortunately, due to a recent attack on one of the members here, I learned differently, and had to remove the offensive member. Please note that from now on, if any of you feel you are having a problem with another member, that you message me privately on my HP and not that member directly. I do not want to see anymore bashing going on for any reason. There is a reason I chose to call this group Cherokee FRIENDS. I believe in treating all individuals fairly and diplomatically, not with insults and public humiliation. Anyone doing so will be removed without notice. If there are threads being posted that offend anyone please address your concerns to me and I will handle the matter privately so that no one is embarassed. There is no need for that. Everyone deserves their privacy and respect. I care for all of you and hope that you will all feel safe to share your special friendship here as Cherokee Friends. Thank you! Shedoe

The Holla Board is a place where members can write short messages for everyone to see. It is a quick and fun way for people to catch up with each other in a group. Unlike the Discussion Board which follows a more traditional forum style exchange, the Holla Board emphasizes what is happening right now and right here in your group. For this reason, messages are limited to 100 characters, and only the most recent messages are displayed.
A "new" icon (
) appearing in front of a message indicates that the message was posted within the last
5 minutes.To see the date and time when a message was posted, move your mouse cursor over the message, and a tooltip will appear that shows you the post date and time of the message.
Please note that if your message is deemed unsuitable for the group, it may be deleted from the Holla Board.
To post a message, click on the "Post Message" link. Please note that only a subset of the message syntax is supported for messages. Please click on the "Syntax Help" button to find out more.
