"We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines. Every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity -- in all this vastness -- there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish this pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

The Membership attribute of a group specifies how you may join the group.
Open: You may join the group at any time.
Invite only: You must be invited to join the group.
V.I.P. only: Available to VIP members only. Only IMVU VIP members may join. Click here to learn about the VIP program.

The Access attribute of a group specifies how the group can be viewed, browsed, or searched.
Public: Anyone can view the group. The group shows up in browse and search.
Private: Only members of the group can view the group. The group shows up in browse and search.
Secret: Only members of the group can view the group. The group does not show up in browse or search.

The "Active Members" panel displays up to six members who posted most recently to the group.
Click on the link "View All Members" to view all members of the group.

This icon indicates that this is an Access-Pass holders only group.

Help: Shoutouts!
The Shoutouts! is a place where members can write short messages for everyone to see. It is a quick and fun way for people to catch up with each other in a group. Unlike the Discussion Board which follows a more traditional forum style exchange, the Shoutouts! emphasizes what is happening right now and right here in your group. For this reason, messages are limited to 100 characters, and only the most recent messages are displayed.
A "new" icon (
) appearing in front of a message indicates that the message was posted within the last
5 minutes.To see the date and time when a message was posted, move your mouse cursor over the message, and a tooltip will appear that shows you the post date and time of the message.
Please note that if your message is deemed unsuitable for the group, it may be deleted from the Shoutouts!.
To post a message, click on the "Post Message" link. Please note that only a subset of the message syntax is supported for messages. Please click on the "Syntax Help" button to find out more.
