As creators, I think more than a few people target us wanting gifts or free credits. How do you respond when people ask you for free stuff?

What would you say if they asked you to gift them one of your products?

I get more than a few questions like this and wondered how others respond

They find themselves reported and if not careful stuck on a very long blocklist

Reported?

You can report someone for asking for a gift? Or do you mean if they spam you?

On free credits request, I used to send them to Imvu links to buy credits and/or how to earn free credits (peer review, etc) and sometimes I redirect people to groups/forums contests.
On gifts request, a bit of the same: there are groups that send gifts, and users can participate there. But I've don't received petitions like that since..bfff.. I can't remember. If the product is mine.. it depends: maybe if is Xmas or I'm on a good mood, I send it, lol! but I can't do this systemathically. Is not the same receive one request per month than receive a flood of petitions. I case of an sporadic request of a product's derivation, I tend to please people, but as I've said.. sporadically! I'm an small developer, lol! *terrified only thinking on a flood of requests* O.o

Nahhh this doesn't makes you looks good or bad. Surely is because you're tired of receive messages. Who knows if in the same case, I would do the same Smile
Is a flood-affair and/or abuse of people's patience, lol!

It counts as begging which is not allowed.

I mostly just ignore people. Sometimes I direct them to the buy credits page. Or send them a sticker I made ages ago that says 'Beggars smell'.

No offense Roy but this isn't a creator only issue...there are so many other threads in other forums on the same issue....

New users do it to older users....they think because you have been here for ages you have money (credits)....Half don't even look to see if you are a creator..

But like LR, flag...hit that safety link or just ignore....

If they ask for something off their wishlist - I look and see if I am on it.
If not - I reply "You don't have any of my products on your wishlist"
Usually they go away and don't ask further.

If they have something I made on their list I send it and say "Enjoy!". I consider this a marketing expense. If they ask for a second item I usually answer "No - don't be greedy."

If they decide to debate the issue with me - I explain how it is not a great way to behave in IMVU and I tell them they are going to be blocked.

It's all in how they ask and how they understand.

I basically would call these unwanted messages. Whether you [not specified] have been my friend on IMVU for three years, eight days, or never, I will not be happy with you begging for any gifted products via Direct Messages. I do, however, openly and happily engage in gifting my products and other Developers products through multiple Group Pages often. In an open network, I have no problem in sharing my gifts or others. However, in Direct Messages, it's very rude to beg for anything. With that said, I think it all comes down to how someone messages me and who they are.

1) If they are already on my friends list and I am acquainted with them in some form (business, friend, friend of a friend) I will offer them a gift from my catalog

2) If they are on my friends list but I do not recall them, I will not respond, but instead will block them

3) If they are not a friend, but I do recognize them (Forums, Group Page), I will respond and offer them a gift from my catalog

4) If they are not a friend, I do not recognize them, and they do not appear to have any stature in the community, I will not respond, but instead will block them

5) If they are a previous customer of mine, I will respond and offer a freebie, custom, or discount on a new order

6) In all cases in which I would offer a gift, I would also up-sell a product I have and/or offer a discount to a product they might be interested in

7) In all cases in which I would offer a gift, I would offer business deals or discounts on a Store Slot (art, files, catalog) for my Group Page and/or Website

8) In the case where someone asks again either using a different account or the same one, I would have to determine the next actions case by case

For me, if it's going to be a positive discussion, it will be. However, if they are just in it for themselves, it's just easier for me to block and move on.

Although I give several gifts to friends and clients, to me, unknown or unknown, they have never asked for anything and if this happens at first I can say that I would ignore it because I always hated those who ask for things, but I will know what attitude to take when and how it will happen.

I send them a kiss of love, no need to be nasty. Gifting is something I do to customers, friends and most importantly potential customers, and none of those ever ask dam it..

If I am asked I too look to see if any of my items are wish listed. Usually they are not so I say aww you have none of my stuff wished for. Do take a look in my catalog and if you really do like something message me again. Wishing you a lovely day. I am kind and polite for there is just so much nastiness in IMVU at times. If I am asked for badges depending on who is asking and what badge I just send it now. But some in here can be a bit over the top. LOL!
