So this happened to me ...what if someone derives from one of your product ,hides it on his catalog and still derive from the hiden item...the derivation chain is then hiden,if someone see the product and check from where was derived, that product is hiden,my mesh ,that im the owner of it ...never shows up,that pisses me off...it's ok,I dont have a problem if you let your derivation derivable, but hell...dont hide it ,and I still dont understand why they do that...

There are three reasons that I've been told that people do this:

(1) As Lila stated, getting extra credits without looking like you're charging as much as you are.

(2) Trying to get sales-derived points for tiers.

(3) Trying to make it so that you can't click on "derived from" and find the other (possibly better) derivations of the mesh.

Mostly, they think that most shoppers do not know how to use the product tree. This is one of the many reasons that I wish new users were given a task/tour about how to use the web catty.

And, to be fair:

(4) Other reasons that might make sense to them but will remain a mystery to the rest of us.

Thank you TheBratGirl, now I have it more clear why they do it,i didnt think about derived sales,well...still pisses me off,lol

I used to know a creator that hid the derive and derived off his hidden derive. When I asked him why he did this he told me if he thought the mesh was really good and he felt he'd get good sales, then by hiding his original derive meant any creator seeing his derive would just derive off him. Basically, he felt he'd get the extra sales doing this. Needless to say, he wasn't the most ethical of creators and eventually lost his account.

What goes around, comes around Wink

You can make your complaint with the dmca is very easy so to the other they lower the product and can even banish or take away the option of creator forever, never lacking the funny ones who want to live on other people's ribs, greetings.

If your product is derivable, there is a big danger that someone foolishly copies it and just changes the icon, but putting your icon under dmca is the most logical thing. Then simply avoid letting your product drift.

It is a little tender perch.

They are ZCDing you because your prices are too low and they know they just have to drop the same product in a different catalogue section to make bank from them.

watch, learn, replicate

The icons, message the developer first and ask to change, then DMCA is your only option.

I suggest just improving your own logo on your icons, like I prefer if zcd developer's use my icons.. more advertising for me and my customers instantly know where it came from.
I like you for this comment Smile

They aren't supposed to. It's not allowed and you could be DMCA'd Smile

oh I understand that part but I just don't understand why would anyone steal an icon if the creator was generous enough to allow their product to be derived from

Yea I guess it is free advertising. I changed a product icon the other day and I guess this person thought it was a new product and derived it again. Now they have two of the same product in their shop. Lmao...hilarious

Interesting strategy. LOL!

I was taken by surprise the first time this happened to me, but I asked the person to change the product icon, and they complied. The other time someone did a ZCD, they set the price a lot higher, but at least they changed the product icon. As long as they aren't ripping my mesh and textures, I'm ok because I still show in the derive chain though. Smart shoppers, however, will opt for mine because it's the exact same item at half the price.

As per the Creator Agreement once you have set an item as deriveable you have agreed to this.It is allowed as is ZCD the only thing reportable is your icons. As mentioned before you are still getting paid. Your status as pro is partially in connection with all of the derivations.

Derivability

When you mark a product as "derivable" in the catalog, you give permission to every other IMVU Creator to derive a new product from your product. This permission also allows those other IMVU Creators to set their derived products to be derivable. You acknowledge and agree that the original Creator(s) who developed a product as part of the derivation chain are to receive payment of their share of the final catalog price, based on their established wholesale price(s) in the derivation chain. Simply deriving new virtual products from those derivations does not, in itself, constitute copyright infringement (because it is a licensed activity that the underlying Creators have authorized).
