I know there are a few discussions about how IMVU's "Next" effects the Creator Community - but they are buried and unsearchable since the word "next" is so common.

Since Segallion and our new ShannonMac are being a little more present in the forums - I feel it is time to reel them into this discussion and finally after a year express to them our concerns about how this product is effecting us, our sales, and the community on a whole.

With this new, exciting CRAP they are thrusting upon the users in the community, who actually do shop from a fun feature - I am concerned.

Their exciting announcement of a change - will effect Creators in multi-faceted ways.

Furniture and Room Creators are already left in the wind with Next.

Clothing Creators are marketed poorly with the ridiculous icon view of their products that they work so hard on branding.

I fear that a LOT of my products will be broken intentionally by IMVU when they flip this switch. This will damage my reputation and create work for me. Unnecessary work. (see page 28 of the thread linked below)

IMVU makes a global announcement for a feature that serves them - with no reason WHY.
http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=639137

I personally already operate at a disadvantage because I am more of a furniture/room dev. I find a cool niche and market it to the large group of users who are going to be effected by this great new crap, and that will be the thing that damages me.

Please - add your concerns into the announcement thread. Please - comment here since Segallion may not look elsewhere.

Moderator: If you choose to re-route my comments to another thread - PLEASE carry my comments over to that thread for me. Don't bury my concerns. And message me with a link. Thank you.

Half the fun on IMVU is shopping, but Next takes that away. It's ugly and lacking, in all regards. I am on my phone 99% of the time, and still refuse to use Next/mobile for anything other than replying to messages.

I was so excited when it was first released, now it's just sad and disappointing. STILL disappointing, and how long has it been since the release? The best part, it's forced on new users. These new sign ups using Next must be bringing in some serious cash, for Imvu to push it so hard.

Bonkolina! I had to quote you.
(from the other thread)
Bonkolina wrote:
What I don't get is why this is a priority. I can understand wanting to push users to the new platform, but why not wait until it's actually FINISHED?

Right now it's like a half-built house and major stuff is missing - like furniture and rooms. The catalog is a disaster. You want us to move into something that isn't even close to being ready for prime time.

Why is that? I've peeked in on Next periodically to see if anything has changed and it looks pretty much the same as it did since it was first introduced. I know IMVU's strategy in the past has been to "live Beta" but there's been no significant change that I can see.

The premise of a web-based client was sold as a way to get around the obsolete game engine in the client, enabling stuff like games. Well, not seeing much enthusiasm for the games from the customers or the game developers. Starting to smell like a fail.

After 30-odd pages and counting, it's pretty clear that your user community is not happy about migrating a well-used and centralized feature like Photo Stream to an INCOMPLETE version of IMVU. There has been no plausible justification for it and will likely hurt more than it helps.

Driving traffic to Next would make good business sense if Next was actually fully functional and includes EVERYTHING the legacy web site has -- but it doesn't. This idea of using your customers as beta testers was fine when you guys were just starting out but now it's just alienating everyone.

Since I do business here I would like to respectfully request that you not piss off the user base and creators, (who are also my customers) and think this through.

While I don't expect Next will end up on the trash heap after all of the work that's been invested in it, trying to get people to migrate to a version of the site that is nowhere near complete is a really bad strategy. Now that users are paying a premium for credits, and all the other things they buy from you, they are NOT interested in being unpaid beta testers. That's not why they're here. User experience and expectations are very different now.

Making any current popular feature (with reduced functionality to boot!) exclusive to Next to encourage user migration is a mistake - run them in parallel until Next is DONE and users aren't forced to give up a feature they ENJOY.

I'm all for "new and shiny" but IMVU's deployment always leaves a lot to be desired. While IMVU users are historically change-resistant (at least on the forums), positive changes that actually address their concerns have been met with enthusiasm and acceptance. So maybe work on more of those?

Todd....PLEASE take our concerns to staff.

So many rumors going around, mainly.......

IMVU, are you going to get rid of the client ? Huge mistake if you do.

As a creator, I think it only fair you let us know now, what exactly you are going to do. It is very frustrating to hear all types of different information going around.

People enjoy the client,

I tried to shop in NEXT. Dreadful experience. If it affects me so bad as a simple user, I suppose it affects many many other users and the dissatisfaction trickles down to me as a creator. If I weren't just a hobbyist creator and my Brand&Bread depended on this, I wouldn't put up with such primitive marketing tools and such a horrible, horrible catalogue.

The colours are off, the shapes are off, the texturing is off, the pictures are ugly... Small items can't be seen at all e.g. piercings, lashes, nails and other fine and fragile accessories. If I hadn't seen how IMVU products work in the Client, I'd had thought nothing of the catalogue part of IMVU and moved to Walk Off. Or Mojis Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes I like emoticons, I use emoticons, I'm mad IMVU forums have the most boring emoticons I've seen for a long time, but I wouldn't touch my credit card to buy a hairstyle to make a moji in IMVU mobile.

I won't even comment on how I can't try on products I find in the Stream and I have to wishlist them and make triple efforts or on how there is no Rooms/Furniture category in NEXT at all (killing sales to people who don't care about the client because they were lured to mobile when they joined). Or on how there is no product Chain, many vital parts are not clickable and there is no enticing marketing.

I'm not thrilled about the selective way items are marketed, about the long arm of IMVU who can snatch and profit from everything, but I guess that's like IRL and we must deal with it the way we would IRL. (In perspective!!!)

NEXT and the Mobile App feel like IMVU is trying to become Facebook with a touch of Instagram and a little bit of Voki a few years after those trends became mainstream, un-trendy and a thing of the past that only our computer illiterate auntie finds modern.

I use my mobile a lot. I did try to get used to NEXT and the imvu app.
They are substandard.
If they were the only alternative, I'd blindly opt for another IM app. Yes, I know IMVU is 3d IM but the NEXT and the mobile app are more like a super nice mobile game among a billion of super nice mobile games. The 3d quality of the client is lost. I've seen android games that are 90% better. I see no use of keeping IMVU for its IM functionality, it's not worth it. Withmojis are cute, but they are not a serious call to spending IMVU credits.

Oh and whose idea were the square photos in the Stream, when our IMVU camera only takes portrait and landscape? Whose idea was to block a photo from stream because of an invisible pose but allow custom material in the photobooth?

There must be some manual in marketing that advises "make them feel good, show them cute things, show them looove and they will give you their annual salary for trinkets". NEXT frustrates me, NEXT catalogue disgusts me, IMVU shows me no love... am I wrong to shop elsewhere? Did IMVU only read the DON'T part of the manual?

I'm here too long to be fond and forgiving of the client and the original IMVU, but they offer what I expect from a virtual world and its website. I'm not against NEXT because of my love for this outdated site that looks like some websites I remember from 20 years ago. It's just that NEXT features are not very handy, the NEXT catalogue sucks big time and the NEXT page is very difficult to navigate because it lacks many essential functionalities. At least the dinosaur website works.

I understand that the Client and the Website carry a lot of baggage re their branding/coding/legals/parental control/patched up functions/overall public image, but IMVU should know better than to believe that if they discontinue them, problems will go hide themselves away. I think that when old-timers threaten to go to other 3D sites, IMVU smiles with relief.

*gets fresh popcorn*

Many users threaten, though, as if IMVU ever practiced customer retention. I think IMVU is more of a "hotdog stand outside the airport" business. Lovely hotdogs, but no first names.

I think the sad thing is even with the new next crap which I hate and dislike trying to navigate and refuse to use it now, is that the community overall has dropped. 3 years ago being in the client there were hundreds of thousands online and plenty of diversity. But now coming back I was a little shocked when the counter in the client sad 40k users online. and by browsing the chat rooms I see it reflected. Is next hurting us that bad not only as creators but as the community to? or is this just because imvu is lacking to many and they move on? Miss searching one word a crap ton of rooms coming up with people in them. now you search one word and there maybe 5 rooms with a person or 2 in them...is so sad.

I've put up with for the past year now constantly being redirected to IMVU Next against my will even against the actually web address typed in. I hate Next i hate the look the navigation the functionality of it it's all unfinished and no where near as appealing as the client. If i was to be using IMVU say from off a tablet then i might be inclined to use it but i don't use one never will do and if they shove it down my throat much more then bye bye along with my money.

IMVU started with download client and that what they made this for. Sadly mobile is taking over and they think everyone is going to there mobile phones.
Realty check guys-not everyone have a fancy startphone and no 4g contention.

I like creating in the client, leave it that way. I can only imagine how much slower and how many more issues there would be in Next. Not to mention the fact that they expect creators to relearn creating, to this day years later I still sometimes find a new feature or tweak in the client and having to relearn everything just no... I never ever go into Next, not to reply or check messages, not to shop, not to anything, it's a complete mess and I hate it. Drop it already, it's awful and the web browser game days left us years ago.

Look at something like Second Life, they are always improving their CLIENT and its features, evolving into something bigger and more powerful, they're not attempting some switch to a PG-13 mock of Club Penguin.

...Am hoping Todd takes a lot of the feedback we gave them and uses it to our advantage as creators ,.. but this will take some time to do and hopefully if they ever change the client to next they would have all the catalog there including all categories

,...maybe the new year will bring a lot more changes idk ... but do know i wasnt a big fan of the client when they first started it but it grew on me rather quickly and now love the setup,..but still perfer web shopping instead of the client shop

,..so hoping they get this browser shop fixed because I do believe its here to stay...the one thing i do like about it is the ease of not having to log in
