Mod hat off

I realise that many of us loathe Next. I'm one who has never liked it.

However, just saying that I don't like it doesn't give much info about how it could be improved. So I decided to try to quantify why I don't like it.

First of all, it looks uninviting. I don't mean the colours - I like grey. I have a toolbar that can colour IMVU's forums but I don't use it. Grey is fine (and tonnes better than the flourescent eye-killing colours originally used.) There's all that empty space. Why? (Please don't fill it with adverts.)

You land on a page with a picture in the middle, a few icon buttons and NO EXPLANATORY TOOLTIPS.
Do we guess what they are? Obviously so.

OK, I managed to work out how to post a photo, and that bit I quite like. Limited poses and no control how my uploaded photo lands, but as you Americans say 'it's kinda cool'. It could be very much improved just by making the editor interface show the image at the same size it will display so that you can actually see how it will look. However I managed a few images with it.

What I really HATE is that I can't get into my private rooms or easily change my outfit, and if I click on chat I'm immediately dropped into a room. This is one of the features that made me detest Next - my first couple of tries I got dropped into very AP-themed so-called 'adult' rooms. No no no no!!!
Let the user choose a room to enter, please don't just drop us in one willy-nilly.

Another thing. Go into shop, and however long it's been since the original test group told you that the default icons are utter rubbish, ugly, and do not even work at all with some products, they still are the same unflattering white mannequins. It's astonishing if anyone ever buys anything from the Next shop.
Yes, it's a personal dislike - I specialise in anyskin products which do not work at all on those default mannequins. Anyskin still shows as white on a white mannequin.

Lastly the games:-

Five minutes waiting for heirloom to load and I have given up and moved on. I'm not inspired to try another game because I'm not entertained by watching a loading circle go round and round.

OK, I hope that's helpful.

If there's anything you like or dislike, please be specific about what and why. We know they can't please us all, but maybe if enough of us like the same thing or hate the same thing, they'll fix something (like those icons PLEASE.)

While I generally dislike Next. I have found there are some things that I enjoy and there are plenty of things I don't like.

Things I do like
- Full Screen messages
- Withmoji's
- Chat Room shadow avi for nodes to see what the node will do

Things I do not like
- Catalog Images
- Increased lag in chat rooms
- Avatar floating around while in Dress Up

So what do I think needs to happen to fix the things I do not like?

1. Replace the ugly mannequins with the icon that the creator made. With the option of the icon being animated or not.

2. I don't think this can be helped. So not to worried about it.

3. Keep the avatar stationary with arrow keys or something to allow the avatar to be moved around. I don't like just barely click and drag and the avatar moves more than I want it to.

What I do like about IMVU Next...

Simply the Moijis and that is probably about all I like about it.

What I don't like,

well, Auntie pretty much just named off everything that I don't like about IMVU Next.

I think its just you. I've never played IMVU Next games after that flash game launch they did a couple years ago, because in my opinion, they are all terrible. However, I just loaded heirloom in about 20 seconds. And I was in game, playing it in an additional 20 seconds. So 40 seconds total. I also have pretty bad internet but a very high end gaming computer.

Not gonna lie though, it was amazing to see how we could move our avatars like that on IMVU with arrows. I wish they put that sort of movement in the client.

I think you lag in chatrooms because your computer isn't very capable of handling 3D (if you're talking about 3D).

In conclusion. I think IMVU Next is amazing. Looks very modern.

Was it really necessary to invest time and effort on IMVU Next?
I don't think so. They should have spent all that time making something different. Pretty sure IMVU made IMVU next in a business stand point to rack in more players, so players can experience what you experience 3D Client IMVU, on their phones.

All in all, pretty sure IMVU next was created more towards a mobile experience rather than browser. It's very evident you need a beast of a computer to run IMVU Next 3D smoothly.

I honestly feel like IMVU is doing all this _____ so they can sell the dying IMVU. They'd have a great pitch (playable on phones, web browser and PC/Mac). I'm pretty sure the numbers of IMVU are dropping fast, so they have to do all this.

I had actually forgotten about the Mojis despite having a go with them last week.
Why did I forget? because there's really nothing obvious to remind me that they exist. Yes, those top right icons do have tooltips if you hover on them.
Activity (apparently that means other people's activity. I have a lot of someone 'like your post' things listed up to 3 months ago. No idea what post. It hasn't listed the photostream likes I got yesterday so I don't know really what it means.)

And a third message system that I had forgotten about in the week since I tried it out. But where's the send new message button? Hidden. It took several clicks to find which bit needs to be opened to be able to send a new message and I've already forgotten how I found it. It's unintuitive.

That landing page is supposed to be photostream, isn't it? It shows the likes, but it doesn't show the comments made in the stream yesterday on my recent pics. 2 Separate photostreams? Is that what we have? Why?

Anyhow, I've just discovered that I have a message and I need to see previous messages to work out what he's asking me about so I need to go back to the new old system which shows the conversation. It's impossible to control the scroll in Next,

And yes, hands up here, I DO hate it when something that I'm used to and know how to use or I like is 'improved' and replaced. Why? Because even if I eventually learn to use and like the replacement, I no longer have the thing I originally liked.

Plus which, you always lose something useful when you gain new features.
Like MS Office - I have to work in compatibility mode since we upgraded because they removed the features I use everyday (like regroup and window select and select all (all greyed out unless you are in .doc) and gutted the ability to edit metafiles and completely altered Wordart. So I'm stuck in compatibility mode, without the new features, because I need to be able to easily edit metafiles and I need regroup and select all and window select. And don't get me started on the blasted ribbon constantly switching to the wrong tab.

Now, yes, we haven't lost our real landing page or the real photostream or the real message inbox, with all the full features, but that's what I fear will happen. Next has some good features, but in all other respects is not fully functional.

I pretty much agree with everything you said...

Except i do like the mojis in next, I reckon they should make it easier to create a moji and have it stand out so its easier to find, maybe something like "Create a WtihMoji Here" button or something that takes you to a simple page where you choose an outfit > choose a moji > save the moji preferably straight into your albums.

I hate Next in general and never use it, but what bothers me the most is that the icons in both the shop and inventory. White outfits are hard to see and those still white avatars are incredibly unappealing.

I'm largely unimpressed by it though and I won't be using it unless the client is eventually removed.

I dislike the redirection towards imvu next when i want to log into my account. There are SO MANY complains, SO MANY feedback given about this problem, and imvu still doesnt do a thing about it, try fix that first.

The smart thing to do would be to concentrate on getting the chat rooms to work right and adding more games (and Photo Booth).... always, always with the idea of directing new Members to IMVU Main. This is not a "phone" universe, nope. It is meant to be used at its best on a PC or Laptop. Same with Second Life.

Frankly, had IMVU been smart, they would have never added the entire Shop or your Inventory to Next in the first place. It is never going to work like it does in the Client or on the main site. The Next Shop/Dressing Room wastes time, frustrates me to no end and does absolutely nothing to showcase the products.

The shopping/dress up aspect should be done on the website or in the Client only, IMO. There could be a few dedicated outfits designed for the new user's phone experiences, perhaps a few more you could design yourself once you've signed up for IMVU Main.

I get it that IMVU wants to expand, but geez... this wasn't thought through very well from the beginning, the test group was basically ignored and Next was launched way too soon.

I was so looking forward to a web based version of imvu, so I can use it anywhere. But Next is such crap. Dressing up or shopping is impossible, and the lighting looks weird. I hate that they keep shoving it in our faces when it looks half finished. How about giving us an actual usuable finished feature BEFORE promoting it?

In my opinion, IMVU Next is completely useless. I don't know why they even decided to try and do something similar to a 3D client but in a web browser. Or add a 3D rooms. It's pointless. It lags a lot, it's slow. I only tried it once and it was a total nightmare. As if a 3D client was not enough Rolling Eyes It's very light and well done compared to Second Life for example, and you can still have your own homepage, web based shop and everything.

I only use Next to upload some pictures that I edited or just something from 'outside IMVU' because it is the only way to upload them to Photostream. But I agree completely with

I also noticed that when someone comments my pictures from Next/phone, I can't see these comments on the original Photostream.

It's very annoying as well as the size of pictures uploaded using Next. You have that awesome picture and it just cuts off both sides of it or top and the bottom and it looks ridiculous. Just a simple square. Why?

i love the idea of browser based, i don't love all the concessions made to the shopping in order to fit it on a phone.

shopping is the pillar of imvu and launching anything where the shopping is sub-par is like shooting yourself in the face, you won't recover and you're real ugly now

IMVU mobile (second edition, the one before IMVU Next) was browser based. You literally cannot run 3D IMVU on browser unless you have a beast computer. So essentially, IMVU Next is a waste because its shopping experiences sucks and chatting is basically the same (because most people will just use it for text chat).

IMVU Next should have just been a mobile platform, not browser specific too.

WHY, when I am writing a message on my landing page, am I diverted to NEXT, which is nowhere near the same location? This has occurred three times in the past three days.

Unacceptable!
