Ever since IMVU Next was introduced, I've seen my sales go down month after month. Which is weird, because I add more products, month after month. So I went to investigate.

In my Creator Reports I have noticed an increase in sales on old products, but a larger decrease in new products. I went to investigate further.

I still use the original IMVU site. On here, when I go to anybody's shop, it takes me to their newest products, which is great!
On IMVU Next -if you can even find somebody's shop- you get to see their old products. Products that are 2-3 years old. I went to look at my own shop, same thing. Products that are YEARS old. Outdated. Suddenly it became clear to me this is why my new products aren't selling. And this is devastating to my sales.

Many developers are seeing a decrease in their sales. I'd like to urge you to look at your own sales and Creator Reports to see if the same thing is happening to you.

Inventory is the same way on IMVU NEXT. If you've ever tried to change your outfit using NEXT you'll find the oldest products show up first and it is near impossible to find what you want - and at a glance it can be quite hard to tell what things ARE.

I had someone message me the other day about a Stream pic and how I took the pictures and from the few back and forth messages I realized they had NEVER used the regular client, maybe weren't even really aware of it and I just...so many things they are missing that way! smh

Yep, I noticed older stuff still sells and new stuff ... just doesn't.

That's why I've given up making anything lately.

Another thing that is just not right about IMVU Next. Developers put effort into making catalog icons. Whoever thought it was a good idea to display the products on plain white mannequins instead, should be fired. It does NOT display the product properly!

I just have to laugh at how ridiculous the catalog display is. It's not bad for displaying some items, but I love the just endless examples of things that you can't tell what the heck they are.

The accessories category is probably the worst. And skins...because devs usually display their skins by showing ONLY the face, I really think IMVU should have realized that and done the same so you could get a nice closeup of what the face looks like. Or, if IMVU is really just dead set on using this mannequin on a white background format, at least let the dev take a picture in that style so an actual human being can do a little quality control and make sure the item is actually shown.

IMVU was begged, beseeched, and pleaded with to get rid of those icons in Next well before Next was ever launched...it all fell upon deaf ears.

Eventually, IMVU gave a little and did that hover thing (where, if you hover over the crappy icon, a preview of the creator's icon is shown)...but, as I asked on that announcement thread, if you see something that looks like total crap then WHERE is the incentive to hover on it to get more information???

It's not just the oh so whiteness of the the mannequins. It's the often absurd angle of the product that is depicted. It is also that, unlike avatars, the mannequins are NOT modified by the product...so, for example, if it's a flat-chested top, the mannequin's big, white boobs are poking holes through it (please, IMVU, realize that clothing is NOT all made to fit the default avatar shapes anymore).

They are just awful. Absolutely godawful.

I wish IMVU would realize that what hurts our sales hurts THEIR sales too.

Mad

I couldn't agree more! I've seen it happen with all kinds of other things too, even to the point of ankles and lower legs sticking out of socks and shoes. And...

Displaying products in white background with a default skin does not make products any favour and I doubt it increases sales for anyone. In that case it would be better to have a full try on feature so people could decide how it looks in 3d.

The only good thing of that is that it shows the product as it is. And don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad in displaying products nicely meanwhile people don't doctor their ads or rely 200% on advertising instead of making a quality product.

I have also noticed an odd trend towards very ancient products selling the last few months I couldn't come up with any rationale reason for this--until now. Thanks for posting. It seems to me to be a rather basic marketing flaw. IMVU surely does not want all of the old stuff to be seen first when they are trying to recruit a new--tech savvy-young group of users? That makes no sense to me. I would think the newly targeted market would be much ore interested in staying and spending money on the site if they were able to see the VAST improvement in newer products with HD mapping. I hope that staff takes a look at how the catalog is sorted and adjusts it for Next.
I have never been and never will be a fan of how the items are displayed in shop. Again--if you are trying to entice new users why show them a crappy icon and shop experience?

I try to use all aspects of IMVU because I fear they will eventually FORCE us to use it...even if we hate it.

This looks like caca.

What sucketh more...the "more products" icons...and the limits on them.

It would be better served for Creators if we could have a redirection to our web catalog.

I agree...Next is crap for us.

It appears they are attempting to provide what they told me their plan was 8 years ago....but are failing miserably at it.

also notice - if you change your "name" in Next...it doesn't show YOUR name on your shop links.

I would more prefer an option where the shop owner can be in charge of how THEIR shop is being displayed by default. Personally, I would always choose to set it to show newest products first.

People don't want to see the same old things when they visit your shop, they want to see what's new! IMVU should understand this better than anyone.

Hell, I can't even FIND an option to view a single developer's shop. All I have found is the ability to search for a developer's name and all that comes up with is showing their older products first.
If you ask me, with fewer options, IMVU Next is a STEP BACK from IMVU Original.

You know, almost looks like IMVU is TRYING to sink the ship. With all the bad choices they're making, it really looks like they are deliberately TRYING to destroy this community.

I see no benefit in IMVU Next, so far. That's my honest opinion. I wonder where IMVU is leading the community these days and what audience is trying to catch.

Yes, I've noticed this too. Sales are down hugely. Mine started tanking when resellers were taken away and they've never recovered.

The catalogue and inventory on Next are shocking. It's hardly surprising there are no sales. Products don't look good and you're screwed if you're an accessory, skin, head, make-up etc creator.

As for the hover states of their icons, bear in mind that there is no hover state on mobile devices (the target market for Next) so even with that functionality, it's likely hardly anyone is seeing it.

I've also noticed that my older stuff is selling. And the oldest to newest display is just stupid - I don't know how anyone thought this was a good idea. The filtering options on Next are terrible too so it's not even like that could be used.
