This forum post is an update to the announcement posted here.

As part of the settlement agreement reached, IMVU is making a change so that all audio products uploaded to the catalog prior to September 21, 2008 and that currently remain in the catalog will play at their full length. This does not include products for which IMVU has knowledge that the products were uploaded in violation U.S. copyright laws.

We have investigated the relevant products to determine the ones that potentially violate U.S. copyright laws i.e. they contain audio files that match copyrighted music. Such products are being removed from the catalogs of their Creators as well as accounts of IMVU customers who purchased them or were gifted them. Affected Creators and customers will receive messages to this effect in their IMVU inboxes. No refunds are being issued to purchasers or deducted from the Creators as part of this action. Those will be handled as per the settlement agreement separately [Please refer to FAQ # 6 and 7 here]. No disciplinary action will be taken on creator or purchaser accounts as part of this process.

Once the removal process for such products is complete, any audio products uploaded to IMVU’s catalog prior to September 21, 2008 that do not violate U.S. copyright laws, will be updated so they play at their full length. We will update this forum post when that process has been completed.

For further information on the settlement, please visit the court-approved settlement website.

Update on January 11, 2016

As per the settlement agreement terms listed here and detailed in FAQ#5 here, IMVU has now lifted the 20 second limit on audio files for products submitted prior to September 21, 2008 (applicable to product IDs 2652700 and below).

Here is the FAQ for your information:

Quote:
IMVU has agreed to make changes to the operation of the IMVU application so that all audio products that were uploaded to the IMVU virtual catalog prior to September 2008and that remain in the catalog play at their full length. 1 IMVU also has agreed to make clarifying revisions to its terms of service agreement as detailed in section 3.2 of the settlement agreement. The settlement does not change IMVU’s obligations to comply with U.S. copyright laws such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §§512(c)(3) and 512(d)(3)) (“DMCA”), including without limitation its obligation to remove from the IMVU virtual catalog and the IMVU application any audio product for which it receives a valid DMCA takedown notice or which it knows was uploaded to the virtual catalog in violation of U.S. copyright laws.

In order to hear the complete audio on affected products that you may have in your inventory, you will need to log out and log back into the client.
