I actually like the conversation part of the web messages. I use it to keep track of things and see what message I sent to someone when memory fails.

It's good that you like it, but IMVU needs to remember that not everyone does.

You can always revert and use the classic inbox. IMVU still keeps the option of choosing the old inbox or the new one.

I know, but Varsha specifically mentioned updating the messaging systems to include a new conversation style system so I'm worried they plan to get rid of the old inbox.

@ Sageist
I don't really feel like your in the position to say "what IMVU Needs"

the inbox is sufficient and it does what it needs and Varsha noted that they are working on it, so I wouldn't go and bash IMVU just cause of some improvements and changes it was never gone, thanks.

I don't have an issue with the online inbox in either setting. But I feel that it should be a choice based on the user preference.

I use it from time to time when I don't feel like logging in on the client and want to check a message or reply to a message.

But it's using the system on my own terms.

I agree with what Sageist is saying though.. IMVU as a whole needs to keep in the back of their mind that not everyone uses everything the same way. People as a whole tend to like having more choices, not less. Plus people tend to prefer doing things in the easiest way possible.. not the most difficult way.

If they are going to create a system that is indeed more streamlined and efficient. They NEED to come up with a system that isn't going to make people bounce back and forth like a yo-yo.

I do believe someone mentioned FB Messaging.. even they have it all figured out in regards to being streamlined and efficient.

I can open up multiple chat tabs and they ALL stay on the same screen. No bouncing back and forth. Imagine if the system was set up where if you wanted to chat with multiple people, that it opened up a different window.

That would be annoying.. that wouldn't be pleasant. (Kind of like how IMVU did with their test.)

Please no. I do not like the conversation style messaging system. It is part of the reason I avoid IMVU Next, and IMVU Mobile. I do not want conversation style messaging - ever. I want the old message system, as in my opinion it works better than your conversation style system ever could.

This.

All we ever asked for was a "SENT" box. The conversation-style messaging system wastes server space. Please do not ignore the fact that this is a "CHAT" site. We can have conversations in a plethora of chat rooms.

The messaging system should not replace this crucial aspect - IMVU is a chat-room based, unique website. Please quit trying to turn it into something other than what we signed up for in the first place. We don't want it to be Face Book or Second Life or Twitter. We want it to remain IMVU.

^ I just had to put this perfect post into bite size chunks.

IMVU, please read and digest, thanks.

(For people who actually like the convo style, let it be kept as an option)

NEVER MIND! I missed the updated answer (somehow I stopped being subscribed to the thread) The point below is moot as the test is now over while more work is being done on an updated mail client. I'll say again though, the ability to export (download) messages off the server would seem like a win/win for cooperation and customer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Initial post:

Do we have an answer / update from staff on the issue of "old" messages not showing up in the web client? Last I saw from Varsha, on Page 7 of the original thread:
Posted: Sat Oct 31, 2015 7:11 am
"We have noted the feedback from some of you regarding old messages and having access to them. We are investigating how we can make them available to you. "

I can understand IMVU wanting to reduce storage on their own servers ... I'd be happy to export my messages out as well, should IMVU provide a tool (or instructions) to do so.

As long as I'm not breaking the forum rules I can say whatever I want.

Also, the inbox was taken away, from the client and in doing so IMVU ignored all of the users whose computer cannot handle loading the client and a web browser at the same time.

No, the inbox is not sufficient in its current state, at least the conversation style inbox isn't, and I don't want to lose the original inbox just because IMVU later decides to make "improvements" to the inbox, that we as users do not consider "improvements."

IMVU: All I want is the old style inbox. I'd like it to stay in the client, and quite frankly I'd like it if you added the old inbox to IMVU Next, and IMVU Mobile too. I, and many others (as evidenced by other posts) find the conversation style messaging system to be terrible.

Hi
This isn't the place for that question but you can file a help ticket with Customer Service. Click on the Help tab on the top of the webpage and go from there.

I find that I can use both styles for different things. For instance, when I send out gifts, I like to be able to go back and see what I sent to whom.

If I mass mailed invites to an event, and want to check and make sure I haven't left someone out, the convo style is good for that.

On the other hand, if I want to simplify a situation where I'm about to receive a ton of RSVPs, the "old" style keeps that in good order. So I go back and forth.

I think if they leave both options available, we'll all win:) I don't think clicking a select button is such a hardship:)

Incidentally, I do wish there was some way we could do mass mailing without it deteriorating to a nuisance/spamming thing. For those of us who throw frequent events and have large groups, such an innovation would be lovely.

But really, if we all have access to our inbox in-world and can choose the style we want, an open mind might be a better view point than picking a position and carving it in stone, at least at this point.

We've been made aware that IMVU wants to change things. I will wait and see what they come up with before I decide because living with a programmer has taught me that there are just so many ways that a program can be designed and implemented.

I have to say i do perfectly love it how it is right now.
I just need and use both systems daily.

On the Client i prefer the classic inbox we have there.
On the Web i love the Thread System, just to scroll back quickly when you need to remember a Conversation.

I would wish it stays this Way for a lot of Years more.

So do I. I think it is the best of most worlds and people have acceptable choices with the way it is now. However, for some reason IMVU seems to think that change for the sake of change is the way to go, as evidenced by this entire exercise in thoughtlessness. So I'm trying to stay neutral until I see what they actually do come up with.

I can't be happy just because they gave us our inboxes back on the client, because they've indicated that it's just for now. I wish I could just come here and enjoy myself without the "bracing myself for whatever they'll do next" feeling.

It is inconceivable to me that a company would waste time, money and effort trying to change something that works, but they feel that they must do this so we are, unfortunately, forced to wait and see what they will spring on us when they're finished analyzing their data.

They'd be making the absolute best move by doing nothing and leaving it as is, at least in my opinion.
