I have had a few requests to explain how to make wrinkles. Here is a basic way to accomplish that. As always there are other ways to do this. Some ways may even seem to be better. But this one works and keeps to a fairly basic skill level. There are a few tips that are possibly at a more medium skill level because they use layer types. I hope you find this helpful. Feel free to post questions or suggestions down below.

What if you are doing a long crease in a shirt like the shadow on a t shirt where the line is solid but fades over a longer distance?

In case you are wondering this technique can be used for more than just clothing. How about curtains?

Thank you for this tutorial, it is very useful!!!~ I'm a newbie and I'm having a rough time with wrinkles lol~ not only the technique but the "where" you mentioned, I mean where to put the wrinkles. Does anybody has some general advice about where the folds go? It would be very appreciated too.
I've had some failed attempts with wrinkles and I felt like I was putting too many of them- or that they were too big- , I didn't like. But then if I don't use the wrinkles it looks too simple, and it looks bad. Well I guess it's a matter of time and practice.... I hope Smile

Great tut.
Now may I add a little to this?
Shadow isn't always black. It most of the time is rhe same color as the overall feeling of the texture in the darkest way.
That way you even get a more natural look.

Yes you are correct. Using color instead of black and white does give it a richer more natural look. I'll add some more pictures to this tutorial to show the difference.

There are benefits to both methods. Using color does indeed give a rich natural feel. While the black and white method allows you to create multiple products from one mesh using the same basic shape but changing the colors and graphics on it completely. Then you don't have to worry about what colors were used in each graphic and change the colors in the shading to match.

Imagine creating a button up shirt. It could be a black or white shirt or colors. It could even be a Hawaiian style shirt in red, blue, green, orange or other colors and mixes of colors.

This is why if I'm creating a quick simple way to make shadows I will try to keep a universal way for beginners.

But adding more methods seems to be an excellent idea. I'll post those next.

I don't really use Gimp so I guess my best suggestion is to maybe check out these two Gimp Tuts by DblLove and Dani or this one by Glitzyy or Kat's

You have to work with any program and learn the tools. I have used photoshop and Gimp. So just practice and you can get the effect you want with either program.

There are tutorials on youtube for "transforming" Gimp to match Photoshop.
What I mean by this is simply rearranging the windows/panels & Tools in Gimp to Match Photoshop's look
& it will be easier to follow the tutorials that people give that use Photoshop
I'm not really familiar with gimp, i use photoshop, but usually when I give a tutorial or show people how to create they are usually using GIMP so I give them a walk through on how to move their windows & panels in GIMP to match Photoshop's order. If you want me to show you how, you can send me a message & I'll help u out Smile
