What I actually ask myself seriously...

...

QUESTIONZ: Notifying the FBI...what good does that do with the members living outside of the US...? And how will they be protected and helped? Will the hacker be caught,...when it/he/she/they live outside the US? I mean I hope it/he/she/they get caught,...but what good does it do that the FBI is involved...kindof interests me?! I mean as a US citizen I could have felt protected,...but I'm very Dutch... Does this mean it is already sure the danger comes from within the US borders?
...

Kindof useless lol? ...Don't we need CIA or something Confused NSA <= I thought they check everything...so far for the use of that department...it's like the stazi of the years 2000 and they let this become reality hmmmmm?! Must have been because the hacker hacked something useless anyway?

Or better since this hacker might still be invisible I'm gonna call...

GHOSTBUSTERS

P.s. 1) Leaving IMVU because of this hack...is letting the hacker win up forehand...and without a stand...no way. Better stand in line and report if someone looses an account or whatever...keep breating! Duh....buy a supersoaker and feel safe...omg. Let's just continue...to make peace and love.
2) Yeah I like movies...

If I understand this correctly they hacked into only the older accounts that due to the fact they couldn't access the updated program?

This doesn't include chats or anything that would have private information would it? Stored chats.
Such as telling someone in a chat for example your phone or personal info.
I'm sure that if the FBI sees this as not crucial then it's most likely nothing to worry about either way.

Off topic posts and jokes that may cause confusion for others have been removed. We want to ensure this discussion stays on topic and addresses questions/concerns from users.

To clarify:

1) Yes, FBI is the right authority to work with this situation and we are doing so. The geographical location of our users is not relevant - IMVU is a US-based company.
2) Yes, we have and will continue to ensure we have the best security processes and systems in place to protect our databases.
3) Regarding what was potentially accessed is listed in the first post of this thread. It does NOT include chat logs.

Thank you

I received a message from a well known player here, well I guess the "l" was a capital I or x was X or whatever, anyway it was to ask to vote for someone in a competition. "Knowing" this person, I clicked a ... what I consider "normal" link and it asked me to login to IMVU on the web page. It was the NORMAL IMVU web page login, nothing unusual. I thought it was weird because I only have to login if I delete ALL cookies which happens now and then, but I did and arrived at some weird page which I immediately left.

Split seconds later it dawned me and I hurried real fast to change my password .... guess I got lucky as everything looks "ok" but its scary that names and web pages are so "authentic", we barely notice! I obviously reported it IMMEDIATELY!

What is currently being done to ensure that this won't happen again. Also for the accounts that was accessed or breached on the 9th, clients that was affected didn't get notified until 2 or 3 days later yet there were other issues that was going on with the client sooner as early as the Sep.,6th how do we know if that wasn't precursors of the 9th incident?

The internet is world wide, just because an US Company was attack doesn't mean it came from US, Intellectual Properties and theft is a problem internationally not just US. The Hacker could had came from anywhere, Federal involvement is not limited to local jurisdictions as say
the LAPD is that's the reason for Federal involvement. This attack didn't just happen to this company but other companies on the same day as well, not saying its related to this incident or not a more thorough investigation have to be done.

The way the attack was handle to my knowledge was swift and efficient per their protocol to insure further destruction or access was not gain.

My issue with IMVU is the attack that occur on Sept. 9th don't mean the beginning stage of the attack didn't occur early on affecting other part of the client. I have another alt account that was after the date of 2008 but was affected yet the company wishes to believe its two different incidents,
and yet this account wasn't affected.

Thank you. That makes me feel better since there is no way that I can remember what info I may have given in a chat that far back.

Sounds like not a lot was accessed by anyone.

As stated in our original post, we will be directly messaging any accounts that we believe are potentially affected.

I got the scare of my life when I logged in today and saw that message. Shocked
Have changed password to a strong one again. Have not seen any changes in anything. I never use the same password anywhere else. Always have different ones. Paranoia seems to be useful sometimes.

There is no need to change the email address associated with your accounts, however, it is always a good idea to ensure you have an email address that you actually have access to, is valid and use so you can stay informed.

Nevermind, I saw this now. I use the 2-Step Verification for my email so I suppose I'm safe?

(I also deleted my other account (made 2011) due to inactivity there).
