@ shynoah

The point is that you feel that show was racist - but when i did just a few minutes of looking into it i found that the show was not racist - in fact it was teaching against racism, and actually the Jeffersons was meant to balance out All In The Family because racism against black people is wrong, but racism against white people is ALSO wrong, so they made a show about that too. The message of both shows was not racist, and apparently no racist hate symbols were part of the shows?

That is not any sort of excuse. That is discovering that a show you feel is racist actually never was. It does not compare to any hate group or hate symbol.

The point about ISIS / ISIL is that i suggested you be certain the content realiy IS about the terrorist organization and not be flagging things simply because they are Muslim or have some thing to do with Islam.

i do not doubt for even a moment that you know how to flag things in the catalog - just be aware and educated about what you are flagging.

And what i wrote i meant, IF you can find actual hate group products then flag them and i will help you do it.

Well, well, well...

I mean just to be consistent and prove that you don't have an ulterior motive for banning the Confederate Flag you must ban Flanagan's gay-pride flag from IMVU as well.

This was an obvious hate crime murder by definition and fits the same hate crime definition with Roof.

So what's it gonna be IMVU? Do you continue to show your obvious Yankee prejudice against Southern American Heritage or do you get consistent and ban the gay-pride rainbow flag from IMVU?

Its time for this insanity to stop.

Put the Confederate Flag back in the shop or ban the gay-pride flag.

Or expose yourself for supporting a prejudice Yankee agenda against Southern American Heritage that has nothing to do with a hate crime.

agreed, if they r gonna pull the Confederate flag, they need to pull all of them, various ppl find various stuff hateful. IMVU is contradicting itself, idk why he even bother to post with all the hateful items that are on here that he didnt even mention ( he could have easily said they r working on it) he makes no sense to me. BTW ima Yankee lol not all of us are prejudice, there r country folks in the north that like the confederate flag.To me that flag is trucks goin mudding, racing, chicken frys ect ect. AND as a witness to 9-11 u can imagine how hurtful it is for me to have to look at some of the.....stuff... on here, yet NO ONE addresses that, an ima paying customer as well.

The shooting did not make the flag troublesome; it started a discussion about it's existence.

When the shooting occurred all flags but the confederate flag were brought down to half mass. It is because it could not be brought down. This sparked debate on if it should be represented by the government due to its history of being the logo for "pro slavery". After discussions were taken place it was removed. Later on, many companies followed not wanting to be "those *** with the racist flag".

The LGBT+/MOGAI flag was not stitched together and flown to "protect their property"; which was other human beings. It was to empower a group of people who were shamed, medically treated as ill, targeted for crimes, were given less rights under the law and overall oppressed and still are today.

If a shooter was wearing a blue shirt while he committed mass murder; would that ban all blue shirts? No. The creation and the purpose of it is harmless; the history of the flag was created to fight for something we now find unacceptable and infringes on our Human Rights and that is slavery. It is also seen as racist due to the fact slavery targeted people of colour.

Her point was the crime was a hate crime.(he sent a rambling note to a news station)
Many types of ppl were slaves ( irish ppl were slaves)
slavery seems more to be a rich persons crime( and a crime it is),even ppl of color owned slaves, wether it be here or across the ocean.
It would take a bigger man to admit he was wrong(for pulling the flag) doubt this guy will ever do that.

It seems that some people still do not understand what really happened in the case of Mr. Dylann Roof. The Confederate flag did not suddenly become a hate symbol because Mr. Roof was wearing it when he committed his racist hate crimes...

Mr. Roof chose to wear that flag because it ALREADY was a racist hate symbol, and Mr. Roof wore it to show his support for what that flag stood for.

The foundation of the Confederacy was racism, sedition and slavery and the civil war was fought OVER what the southern states felt was their right to enslave black people.

The effort of revisionists to re-brand the Confederate flag as a symbol of southern pride and heritage are trying to forget the actual heritage of that flag, the actual reason for its creation, the horrific war fought over slavery and race, and the sedition against the government BASED on racism and slavery versus abolitionism.

I deeply question exactly WHAT aspects of the Confederacy are people taking pride in? There is no part of the Confederacy to be proud about - and that is what the Confederate flag has ALWAYS stood for from its very creation, it stands for the Confederacy, NOT for the south, but for an ideology of sedition, racist hate and slavery.

The Rainbow pride flag was created in solidarity for people who are suffering organized oppression at the hands of false Christian Fundamentalist fear and hate mongers and the Republican party in USA that repeatedly lobbied bills into laws to deny homosexual people their civil rights and privileges that were guaranteed to them by the 14th Amendment of the US constitution. The LGBTQI have been publicly and privately harassed, physically attacked, in several cases brutally murdered, and the rainbow flag began as and remains a symbol of solidarity and pride at this time.

So how DOES Vester Flanigan compare with Dylann Roof?

BOTH men are mentally unstable killers who claimed to be victims of their society, both created their own manifesto of sorts where they tried to rationalize the murders they were planning to commit - both killers based their hate in racism, NOT on sexual orientation.

Both men had personal histories of violence and yet both men were legally able to purchase handguns, and so both men are being used by some people already as examples of a need to change or at least find a better way to enforce gun laws in USA.

It is important not to lose sight of either the history of the flags being discussed OR losing awareness of the reality that has happened recently.

i think what ur not getting , is that the Confederate flag has EVOLVED, it NO longer means the ugliness it started out as. it rose above, THATS what they r taking pride in. ppl assume ugly things , thats there issues not mine. I should not be penalized for some one else wrong doings. i havent done anything to any one so why am i being punished.
seems ppl ignore that slavery is a crime rich ppl commit, they dont choose there victims based on color they base it on opportunity.
the point one person pointed out about Vester Flanigan is he disliked straight ppl, thats who he shot isnt it??
so THIS is the reality of what has happened recently.

The flag, its origin, its history, has never changed.
What has happened is that revisionists over time have tried to remake the Confederate flag as a symbol of pride and heritage - about a time before the war in the antebellum south DURING slavery, when the white plantation owners owned black people and were rich from abusing them and forcing them into labor - tobacco, cotton, and the slave trade were the basis of the economy then -a wonderful life i guess for white land owning bigots.

And then also there are those who just rather pretend none of that ever happened, and try to celebrate the flag as a symbol of rebellion against the US government - scream a rebel yell and pretend the South never fell...

The truth is there is no part of the Confederate flag or the Confederacy that deserves ANY pride or even any respect. It is a symbol kept alive by the Klan - in fact it was the Klan's first flag, although as they embraced fascist ideology to make their racist hate group more popular, they would make other flags and other symbols.

So sedition, slavery, racism... and what ever else revisionists want to pretend the flag symbolizes too?

History is not changed just because some people dedicate their effort into denying it or overlooking it.

There ARE several REAL reasons to be proud about the US south, from prestigious colleges to natural landmarks to famous locations involving the history of jazz music, to places like Austin Texas that stands out as a cultural oasis.

But none of that has any thing to do with the Confederacy.

The Confederacy and its flag need to be put into a war museum and children need to be taught about that sick, ugly, evil dark time of sedition, racism and slavery - so that it is never allowed to happen again.

The WORST thing any one could do with that hate symbol is what too many people are doing with it - trying to keep it alive or trying to find excuses to fly the flag and pretend it no longer means what it always did.

About Vester Flanagan, follow the link in the past post i made and watch the video and read the article about him, and his reasons for the horrible murders he planned and carried out.

In 2015 slavery is indeed mostly a white rich and middle class crime, now committed mostly upon immigrants from other countries especially young women and children who are sold into sexual slavery or brought over being told they will get work visas and jobs only to be sold into servitude - Slavery is STILL happening in USA.

But it does not matter which Americans are doing it. It is still sick and wrong.

The ethnicity of the victim does not matter either, slavery is human rights abuse.

But that fact that Confederate flag BEGAN as a symbol of sedition, slavery and racism and the fact that Confederate flag is STILL a symbol of sedition, slavery and racism, is why that it is not enough to simply decide to feel differently about it.

You can feel and believe any thing you wish about that flag.
But it does not change the truth about it.

From day one, many Christians have found the Gay Pride flag offensive because it stands for something Christians believe is a sin against God (and they are not all crazy fundamentalists or religious zealots...though a few are). Then a gay man who owns such a flag shoots straight people and his manifesto states his dislike of straight people. BUT that is OK. We can keep the Gay Pride flag because the LGBT community meant it as a symbol of love right?? Even though it offends many and was owned by someone who was prejudiced against non-gays??

Here's is something to think about.....

The argument going is that the Confederate flag was always a symbol of hate, and oppression so ban it. The LGBT flag was never a symbol of hate so keep it.

1. The Confederate flag has evolved to mean many things to many people, none of which have anything to do with racism. Only a few still use it as a racist symbol and commit murder against African Americans due to prejudice.

2. The LGBT flag was never meant as a hate symbol, but many religious persons find it offensive. Only a few of the LGBT are prejudiced against straight people and commit murder born of prejudice.

Both flags hold different meanings for different people, both flags can be found offensive by a group of people. So why is one group more important than others?? Rolling Eyes

For the record, I have nothing against the LGBT or gay/lesbian community. I am not prejudiced or racist. I just believe what is good for one group of citizens should go for all groups. Get rid of one symbol because it offends, then get rid of all the symbols (regardless of original meaning) that offends any group of citizens.

(and please do not sell me the "people died under the Confederate flag" crap....many more have died under the US flag...both soldiers and innocents civilians. The civil war reflects a mind set of those times, just as any other war, present or past, reflects the mind set at the time. Whether that mind set is correct or not is not the main issue, though some would like us all to believe it is).

@ NikkiHart01

If we are going to speak of deaths and associate them with flags
then we should include the deaths in the Crusades as well.

War happens for many reasons - the American civil war was a war of sedition,
an effort to secede from USA because of a difference in ideology. An ideology of human rights abuse and racism.

Did you happen to read the CEO's letter?

The Cornerstone Speech from Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens stated (in opposition to the United States), “Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition“.

The feelings about the flag have changed for SOME people - some people who i guess grew up never really knowing the origin of that flag and never really considering it - instead they accept revisionist teaching about it and feel offended when any one points out the real history of that flag they are waving as a banner of pride.

And people have a right to believe what they wish - and on their own property they have rights to proudly display any symbol they wish. It is part of the first amendment right to free hate speech...

But the moment you step off of your own property onto someone else's property, then other people's rights suddenly matter just as much as yours do, if you respect their rights or not.

The history of that flag is WHY it is correctly seen as a hate symbol - that is its origin. And agreeing with it or disagreeing with it, it remains a symbol of racist hate.

The Rainbow flag of the LGBTQI never has been a hate symbol and it is not a hate symbol even now - it literally was created to show solidarity and pride.

So you cannot rightfully claim it is a hate symbol because of how false Christian Fundamentalists and Republicans feel about it - because that flag is not a symbol of hate toward them or toward any one.

What you CAN truthfully say is that the rainbow flag is a HATED symbol, that there are some groups, namely the Klan, the GOP and the Fundamentalists in USA, who hate the symbol because it represents acceptance for homosexual people and their church dogma and hate ideology teaches them that homosexuality is wrong.

Unlike racism, slavery and sedition, homosexuality is not actually a human rights abuse.

The Confederate flag is not suddenly wrong - it was wrong from its beginning. What changed was the awareness of the masses.

People can choose to hate the rainbow flag if they wish, and there is even a tiny movement on social media to reclaim the rainbow for God... !
But just choosing to hate some thing does not make that thing wrong or even offensive - it just means you hate it.

Racists choose to hate people of other ethnicity - it does not make those people of other ethnicity into a hate group, it makes those people into a hated group - hated BY a hate group.

Just like homophobic groups literally spitting fear and hate false dogma against homosexual people does not make homosexual people into a hate group; it means that homosexual people are a hated group, hated BY a hate group.

It is important not to lose sight of either the history of the flags being discussed OR losing awareness of the reality that has happened recently.
so basically im hearing ur the same person u were in kindergarden?? same views?? same logic, u didnt grow up , stop havin temper tantrums, u didnt revise ur life plan once or twice.......( just applying UR logic to U)
AND any mistakes u made u didnt learn from???
well im sure u did grow to be a great person, just like the ppl who feel the rebel flag should stay r great ppl an deserve to be able to enjoy it, plain as that. now u can write another book in response if u like all of wich avoids what is being said from the other point of view HOWEVER its still our point of view. where others choose to see ugly an hateful things , others choose to see the beauty. an yes there is plenty on here that offends me an nothing is done about it. ya that flag is historical, ppl learned from those mistakes an made changes so why should they lose out??U R TALKING about the actions of a hand full of ppl, not the millions of ppl who do the right thing.
The Confederate Flag's original meaning has never changed. It's always stood for racism and hate. Maybe you people who live in the South want to think it hasn't changed, but with hate groups taking it up as their banner, it has always retained its terrible history. You can't erase the WHY it was created.
Thompson, who designed the square part of the original flag, stated it in fact, then it was adopted, changed by Tennessee into a rectangle and then flown fully or in part of many other Southern state flags. It was conceived in racism and hate. Whether people accept that or white wash it, the fact remains.

If we are going to speak of deaths and associate them with flags
then we should include the deaths in the Crusades as well.

Something we agree on.

War happens for many reasons - the American civil war was a war of sedition,
an effort to secede from USA because of a difference in ideology. An ideology of human rights abuse and racism.

As I said, whether the beliefs of the time were correct or not is not the issue I was addressing or the main issue, IMO.

Read it, but thanks for covering that as if I had not. Not everyone who read it agrees with the decision.

Quote:
The feelings about the flag have changed for SOME people - some people who i guess grew up never really knowing the origin of that flag and never really considering it - instead they accept revisionist teaching about it and feel offended when any one points out the real history of that flag they are waving as a banner of pride.

Aware of the history and always have been. Just because many Southerners and others have accepted the evolution of the meaning of the Rebel flag instead of getting stuck in the past, does not mean we are ignorant and uneducated.

Quote:

So only crazy fundamentalist or Republicans can find that flag offensive?? Not every Christian is a fundamentalist or Republican but most find the LGBT flag offensive for reasons I stated. The Christian bible teaches it is a sin against God. I won't go into that other than to say it is not my place to judge anyone...my job is to love others as Christ loves us.

As for your comment of having rights on our own property vs off property...then since I can fly the rebel flag at home but not in public does that mean the LGBT can fly the flag at home but not in public. Regardless of why it offends some...it still offends right?? Oh yeah, I forgot, equality only counts if you were ever among the oppressed in some way cause that is the definition of being Politically correct.

Quote:
What you CAN truthfully say is that the rainbow flag is a HATED symbol, that there are some groups, namely the Klan, the GOP and the Fundamentalists in USA, who hate the symbol because it represents acceptance for homosexual people and their church dogma and hate ideology teaches them that homosexuality is wrong.

See above response plus....and the confederate flag is hated by those who only see it's past meaning and not what it stands for to many people (the majority of those who fly it) today.

Quote:
Unlike racism, slavery and sedition, homosexuality is not actually a human rights abuse.

The Confederate flag is not suddenly wrong - it was wrong from its beginning. What changed was the awareness of the masses.

People can choose to hate the rainbow flag if they wish, and there is even a tiny movement on social media to reclaim the rainbow for God... !
But just choosing to hate some thing does not make that thing wrong or even offensive - it just means you hate it.

umm no...at the time of the civil war and just prior to it, slavery was accepted by both North and South. The flag and slavery became wrong because a few Northern lawmakers decided so. Does not remind you of the gay rights and Republicans? Believe me, I agree slavery is wrong...but no it was not always considered wrong. Again, it has to be viewed in context to the times.

People are free to hate the LGBT flag but banning it is wrong

People are free to hate the Confederate Rebel flag but banning it is right.

Have to love the double standards there.

Quote:
Just like racists choosing to hate people of other ethnicity does not make those people a hate group.

Just like homophobic groups literally spitting fear and hate false dogma against homosexual people does not make homosexual people into a hate group.

Not trying to be offensive, but if we are going to be PC...lets be 100% PC and not pick and choose who/what we want to be PC about/for.
