hi im new at making a tutorial i can not promise that im am the best teacher but i will surely try my best to be clear with my steps here.

i will be working with a hair texture that i have already made so i can show you the concept how to make your part on your hair texture. if you already have hair file you can follow me step by step.
to begin with i always edit my work larger then the required size so my hair texture will be 512x512 before i resize it for submission. you may also use my screen shots as a guide. i work in gimp so i do apologizes if this not helpful for those who do not use gimp.

in my next step i will go to the menu bar on top of the gimp program select layers an open a new layer. in my tool box i will select a color the color im selecting is c38263. this will be my color for the part. please use the images here for you guide below.

from the tool box im am now going to select my selector tool which is highlighted in blue in the image below. i will just select small area on top as shown in the picture below. by clicking the mouse an dragging it over my texture.

next i will go back to my tool box select the bucket icon which is bucket fill. take the mouse an click in the area selected to fill it with my color.

after i have done this i will make sure my layer is unselect by clicking the selector tool an clicking out side my image. now im ready to add noise to my image. i will click on filters here an select noise an click on spread. once i have done this an my box of options appear i will now use the number 12 for my spread. as shown in the image below as a guide

now im ready to complete my part. going back in to filters and selecting blur and clicking motion blur. my length will be 6 and my angel is going to be 90. after i have done this my part will be completed an i can try it on the mesh.(always resize your textures for submission size hair textures should be 256x256) please use images below as a guide.

here is my finished product. now always remember when you are trying something new it will not always be perfect on your first try. so dnt get discourage if yours didnt come out like mines. with my experience some meshes map out your parts different so if your part comes out to big go back to the work that you have open or reopen your psd file. (always save your work in layers it save you time when you have to go back to change something.) and just simply use your mover tool an move the part up a little more on your image keep adjusting till it fits the hair mesh the way you want it. if your part came out to small then this just mean u have to make your line thicker an repeat the steps. practice makes perfect. so i hope this was helpful to others happy creating feel free to share your creations in this thread if you like. Smile

baby hair tutorial

i have a basic baby hair tutorial i have put together to give the concept of drawing your own baby hair. this tutorial was done in gimp but should be easy for photo shop people to follow.
this tutorial is very basic so please play with the concept with your own creations. if you found this helpful feel free to leave a comment.

you will need to use a hair mesh that has the new baby hair mesh here is a link of a shop i know that have hair meshes with the baby hair mesh that will work with this tutorial.
http://www.imvu.com/shop/web_search.php?manufacturers_id=55963262

step1: open a image. im using size 512x512 to work with but just remember to size it to 256x256 when you save an upload it to submit. after i open my image im going to fill it with black background an hide it. im going to layers on the menu bar an open a new layer.

step2. im going take my circle selector tool as shown in the image below. make a circle as show in the image below. fill it with the color white. then im going to move my tool till i have the shape i have below in the image. after i have the shape i want im going to hit delete. i will get a shape that is shown in the images below.

(you dont have to draw your hair strain like this if you are more advance. you can also draw shapes with the path tool and iwrap in filters under disorts. iwrap allows you to move an shape anything. grow an shrink any part of your image you are working on. this tip is for the more advance gimpers.)

for the beginners you can follow this step.

step3. im going to now make my hair strain i made in to a brush. i love brushes most my time i create brushes on my spare time so i have spiffy brushes to use for creating. to create a brush make sure the layer of the image you want to be a brush is highlighted in the layers box. we will go to edit an select copy. after we have done that we going to go back to edit on the menu bar an select paste as >new brush> name are brush an hit save.

step5. now im ready to use my hair strain an draw my baby hair. scale the brush to the size desired an make random strokes i usually work on one side the map. then when im finished.
i duplicate my layer flip it with the flipper tool and merge my layers down. you can go to layers on the menu bar an find merge. after i have done that i duplicate again an gaussian blur my 2nd layer at 2. you can find gaussian blur in fliters under blur. now i have my baby hair map.

my finished product Smile

i hope this was helpful to those who been asking about baby hair.

HD Baby hair tutorial

This tutorial is for the HD hair mesh if you have a Hd mesh you can use this tutorial. Tutorial is very basic for beginners to help you get the concept on drawing your own baby hair.

Step1.
First we open the uv map for are guide. I will scale mine 1024x512. Go to the open layers on your menu bar and open a new layer. Find your fuzzy round brush then you can set you brush in the 200s. I will now make a spot white on my layer as shown in the image below you will see the steps I have taken.

Step2.
In this step I will set the dynamics to velocity tappering my tool presets I will keep 1basic. If you more advance set you dynamics and presets as you would like you brush to work for you.

Step3.
Now I'm ready to start making my hair strain strokes. I will select my smuge tool. Resize my brush to 18.00. Im going to start my rate at 68 and make my stroke im drag down an slightly slanted. After i have made one layer of strains. I will now bring my rate up to 88.00. Goe back over an extend more stroke over the layer of strokes i have done. I now have image like this. Now you can do the whole map this way stroke by stroke. This more of speed tutorial so i will do one group of strokes.

Step4.
Now I will go to my menu bar click on filters an Disorts an iwrap. The box will open up you will see your baby hair strokes you have made. Im going to select the move tool an sweap the edges of my baby hair to go in the direction I want. You can also curve , bend extend and shrink with the functions in any way you like in iwrap. once I'm happy with the the direction I click okay. You can also use ur smug tool to clean up the ends of your baby hair. Follow the images below to see the results.

Step5.
Since I only did a group for speed toturial im going dupilcate my group of baby hair. I'm going to use my rotate tool to angle my groups of baby hair and use my mover tool to position the group of baby hairs on my uv map as so.

Step6.
Now I will duplicate the layers again to make my baby hair darker and merge my layers down over my uv map. After i have done that I'm going to now go back to filters an open enhance and open unsharpen I'm going to use my unsharpen tool to define my baby hair more. I will not duplicate my layer an position my baby hair on the other side.

Last step.
Now I will add a solid black layer an merge all my layers down resale my image 512x256 and save. Add my baby hair map I have just done an their you have you baby hair for you hair. See image below for results. This is a quick tutorial to give you the concept. Practice an take you time drawing all you baby hair details using the tools I have introduce you to for more creative unique baby hair. Thank you for review this tutorial. If their are more hair tutorials needed please leave a comment here or pm me an I will work on more tutorials. If you have found my tutorials helpful please let me know leave me a comment. And lastly share with anyone who needs help.

For those who do not have hd baby mesh their is now a derivable baby hair mesh in my shop. The map is different and its label for you so you know what part is what. But the same concept here from the hd tutorial you can use to draw the baby hair

Your images all may be the same size but I checked one that was edit by the moderator and it says: 700px × 538px
That is over sized, right?

Thank you for the tutorial. It helped a lot in making the baby hair.
My problem now is when I add it, it seems to make it go away. And I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. May be that I've just been up to late working on this. LOL But any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if the hair you adding the baby hair is set blendable the opacity from the hair its self will conflict with the baby hair. also some items like some eyebrows depending how close the are to the forehead or some eyelashes and freakles an make up add on due to opacity maps if they are blendable products it can conflict.

I am so glad you mentioned this about the eyebrows! I finally figured out that my baby hair wasn't showing up properly, but when I switched out my avatar's eyebrows, to a flatter, less curved type, it worked great.

Thank You for the tutorial. I am going to work slowly and thoughtfully on learning how to make the baby hair with your splendid lesson plan!

you will have to contact the mesher an find out what correct number to apply also you need to know what body part the mesh have been made from if you want to make it a addon. but to add it to the hair you will need to know what number to put in to add the mesh in i will see if i can put up a example on how to add your mesh here.

im sorry if im to late in responding been kinda busy lately. but if you post an you havnt heard from me an really need my help inbox me. i get my inbox responds faster then post in forums.
