I do not understand why anyone would feel threatened by this or how it effects them at all seeing as this is an online site....

1. I have met so many on here who are lying about their gender on their profile card....
They tell their friends and those they are close to, but with a stranger? eh who cares?

If it helps people get hit on less by narbs or makes all us gender confused people feel better how does it harm you?
If THAT stops you from wanting to know me as a person? Guess what? I don't want or need to know you...

Please be real. Any belief even any one is against shouldn't be a problem in attacking each other. Everyone has the right to say his opinion.

If you think by hiding gender you will be safe? "I DOUBT" because the fear inside you is and will always be and you have never tried to get rid of it. You want just to hide it and pretend you are strong... so go and hide I don't care.

Oh by the way wait! for being VERY CLEAR I am not addressing my post to any one of you. I am just telling my opinion and you have the choice to take it or leave it. However, don't let the drama meter raises up more!

You all have a great and safe day.

--------------------------------------------------

Just my opinion here so no need to take offence. That being said....I have A RIGHT to control my own on line profile. I can choose what I wish to make public and what I do not. Those rights exist on every social site, including IMVU, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Therefore, if I so choose, I have the right to hide age, gender, location (when on line) etc. Just because social sites require information when we sign up does not mean every user has a right to that information. That is my choosing as to whether or not I want an individual user or all users to know such information.

This is not a job, birth record or any other kind of real life situation that requires the government to keep track of our work history (for SSI benefits when I retire), taxes, birth, death and so on. It is a social site, and the government could care less what I show on my profile. Additionally, I have met many transgender persons who do not let the employer or school know they are transgender just to avoid discrimination. This could probably be said for fluid, neutral and so on, but I have no experience there to speak on. So actually, yes you can hide gender on a job or at school. Just saying.

Gender DOES NOT matter....it is the person and their beliefs that matter.

Actually, I think given all the reasons we have seen on this thread as to why someone would wish to hide gender, maybe a simple N/A (like when we hide age) would be better. This way there is no strong emotional connect to the "hidden" option. Hidden in of itself has a negative connotation for most. It stands for dishonesty for many people (he/ she kept the body hidden, he / she kept their illegal activity hidden, he/she hid their infidelity, and so on). This is why we are seeing such strong emotional responses to the option to hide gender.

You may be right there, and I personally would rather have seen more added to it IE: transsexual, gender fluid and so on... than simply hiding it or neutral ... But still for people to be throwing such a fit over it... Don't like it? Don't use the feature.. simple

I doubt that people hidden their gender to try and connect with people that have to much unwanted self-importance,and feel offend to people that do hide their gender. They're not trying to directly offend you or change your life.So why does it matter.

I really don't see the point of hiding one's gender. But hey if that's what people want to do. It's their business.

Just now noticed this... And I just want to say thank you!!!! This change is good.. Something that has been wanted for a long time..

Maybe a few extra options would be a good thing, as well. But I am honestly happy that you have at least taken this extra step. Very Happy

A few things to everyone posting here...

1. Those who want to lie, can and will lie. They also, most likely, won't be the ones hiding their info, but those choosing to have false info on their cards.

2. Those who do "lie" about their gender, could very well be transgender. Transgender doesn't begin after the final surgery. It begins long before the first.

3. It is personal preference if you don't want to get close to those who have hidden profile information. Don't bother us and we most likely won't bother you.

4. Some actually are born outside the male/female standards. It's not for anyone else to tell them which they should choose. Or that they should choose at all.

5. Male Only / Female Only chat rooms never have and never will be filled with only males or only females. No matter how many rules you put up for your room, it's just really something you have no control over.

6. As for the comment made earlier about in real life, you can't get past the male or female sign on the bathroom door... I personally beg to differ.. I have been using both, without a problem, for the majority of my life. Nobody gives me a second glance when I do. Very Happy

I also use both restrooms and have never had an issue. I also don't mark male or female on job applications or other forms. It has no bearing on the job i can do.
There are already gender free bathrooms in most major cities around teh world.
Gender is heading out the door.. get use to it

This is true.. It's been years since I filled out a job application, but I know I've seen some that have boxes for male, female, and prefer not to say.

You are really making me laugh, you are hiding your gender and age but I am talking with you right now. Do I seem afraid, huh? Do whatever it pleases you but honestly I am not ready to talk with unknowns. I have a very strong personality in real and in here and I don't let any one exceed their limit with me. I know how to protect myself even online that is why I have found ODD that imvu allowing hiding gender so why they have asked our gender in subscription? isn't that ODD for you as well?

No No NO!!! I have chosen to TAKE IT as You have made me burst into hysterical fits of laughter!!!! You are such a COMEDIAN!!!

I just want to make sure that I have understood parts of your posts Sarko.

Human Rights? << Is that questioning if a human has rights? Is it questioning that it is a load of crap? Is it questioning that you did not know about this?

Where and what article is mentioned that you are allowed to hide your gender? smh... << Yes, I am shaking my head also as it is quite confusing.

Where : United Nations Website which has The Universal Human Rights Declaration.

And you mention the word "article". <<Are you referring to the 30 articles which are included in that Declaration or are you talking about some other "random article"?

If you happen to be referring to some of those articles from that Declaration, then THESE need to be seen.

Article 1.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Article 2.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Article 3.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

__________________________________________________

I had to draw a line as how you posted falls under these 2 articles.

Article 5.
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 30.
Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein.

Your location says France.

Back in 1947 there was a Committee which drafted that Declaration. Your country was represented by Rene Cassin. He has a Nobel Peace Prize.

Your country follows The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"I have a very strong personality in real and in here and I don't let any one exceed their limit with me. I know how to protect myself even online ".

Watch out folks!!! We got a KEYBOARD WARRIOR on our hands... he could CAPSLOCK us to death!!!

This ALL ties in with Individuals having the choice on IMVU to "hide gender" as it is THEIR HUMAN RIGHT and IMVU has finally taken a step forward allowing them to do so.

Chatting to others on here has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH GENDER!!!

You are one human chatting to another human!

Don't ever think you can impose your opinion by cussing and fussing and screaming can make me change my mind. You have shown it clear how all your posts fall under your so called human rights and the disrespect on others opinions. -Hope they give you as well The Nobel Peace Prize. lol-

I have stated my opinion very clear without attacking any one else opinion as you have done. PERIOD. You don't like it? "I REALLY DON'T CAREEEEEEEEEEE"

hmmm...come to think of it, I have run into the men's room if the ladies room was occupied and I couldn't wait. I have seen guys run into the lady's room for same reason. Never a big deal. As for the job application, if memory serves me correctly, Sonic Drive-In got rid of the male/female question and I know most places here it is not a mandatory question to answer.

Isn't the colored text randomly assigned when an avatar enters chat, regardless of gender? I've never noticed a difference.

Sorry if someone responded to this already, but that's not the color being referred to. When you pull up a person's profile card, the tagline shows in blue or pink, designating whether the gender option is male or female, respectably.
