I am having the same issue and have tried the appropriate downloads on that link including the older versions. I also downloaded 468 which gave the exact same message.

Has anyone managed to resolve this issue, and if so could someone kindly share the in formation. I am here since 2007. and know how to install IMVU , system requirements etc.

I do not want or need suggestions as to the state of my computer, just a fix for this issue.
Ty all.

* having said that, it was a corrupt update from microsoft that forced me to do a full factory restore. If the thread opener is using Vista, he may need to download & install sp1 again, then sp2, then update java, and adobe SE as applicable ( all from the official sites ). Even after having done all the above I am still getting critical updates at a rate of knots, ( 109 ) at the last count.
Should any of these resolve the issue with client I will post here.

Have you cleaned out your IMVU cache manually?

Is there anything that could be blocking the connection such as parental controls, firewalls, anti-viruses and alike?

Are you on a network at a school, office building or such where the administrators may have restrictions on the network?

Have you turned your router off and back on?

Check the speed of your connection http://www.speedtest.net to see if your speed can handle IMVU. Also check the quality of your connection http://pingtest.net

Are you using satellite technology?

I have done all of the above, I am the administrator, speed is not an issue, I have a high speed broadband connection, routers fine, and not a satellite feed.
I have been using the same security program for as long as I am on IMVU and it is not being blocked by a firewall etc. With 5yrs of clients vagaries I checked on all you suggested before posting. Until the restore, client was working as were installers. uninstalling and downloading a fresh installation packages has not resolved the issue either.

IMVU installs and promptly crashes giving the error message stating it has crashed and do you want to sign in again.
As client never opens in the first instance it is impossible to do so.
I am going to try find an older version that still works and see if that will resolve the issue.

Ty for the suggestions though, I do appreciate your assistance. I have a suspicion that the fault may lay at Microsofts door rather than IMVU in this instance. Either way if I figure out a fix, or it miraculously starts working of its own volition I will let you know .
Thanks again

* Edit , I finally got it working I think updating Java did the trick. I noticed now that in order to agree to the terms and conditions with this latest installer for IMVU we are forced to choose the community toolbar. I wonder if by unchecking the 3 options provided in this installer is causing the installation to fail? ( unable to recall if I did so on the previous attempts ).

I experienced this with version 476.6. I was working fine, uninstalled from the IMVU/Programs Uninstall.... Installed the new version and anything I did after that point cashed the reoccurring IMVU Has Crashed error.

What I finally did was Uninstall, again. Search with Administrator Rights (logged in as admin) the whole hard disk for 'IMVU'. It found a folder and a desktop Icon. I hand Deleted them. Rebooted... Did a Registry Clean (Registry Distiller), rebooted and then reinstalled 476.6 and all was well. . . . .

I *think* you have to update to 472.0 or higher ( read about that here - http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=425675) or it forces the new update. If you want an older release try this one....

http://static-akm.imvu.com/imvufiles/installers/InstallIMVU_472.0.exe

The latest release has a ton of fixes in it. I am glad to have music playing again . . . Thanks IMVU

The problem with these posts there are like 10 different ones that are all basically the same. Look at my *second* post on this page...

Thanks Lestat for your help, (I had managed to get mine working on vista but having tweaked so many things I cannot say which tweak actually did the trick)
However I also use client loaded on an xp computer & hit the update button in error... resulting in the same issue, even when installing 472. To date I have not been able to resolve the issue there.
* at the moment I am running sfc /scannow, having tried everything else, including manually removing 3 prefetch IMVU files uninstalling failed to remove.

Since posting here I found the other threads in relation to this issue dating back to May of this year and umpteen updates since. IMVU seem determined to me to want to drive people away from them. Enforced updates that wreak havoc is certainly one way of doing it.
On checking applications in firefox on my XP computer I see that none of the IMVU ones have installed or even register there.
On this newest update IMVU are forcing us to accept the community toolbar in order to accept the Terms & conditions before the installation completes. As more of the community find themselves having to update client I foresee hundreds of similar threads appearing in relation to this bug. And I wonder is their coding in relation to the toolbar what may be causing the conflict?
I do not want the IMVU toolbar , nor an IMVU/Yahoo search engine ( what a lethal combination ! ) and disabled the community toolbar as soon as I managed to install 476 on Vista.
* Ironically the Security Program I use is currently being promoted on IMVU's unending advertising panels !
