Hi!
I've recognized that lately there are fewer and fewer developers who still bother to make product pages for their catalog - and I'm wondering why?!?
What do you think? Are product pages a waste of time or are they necessary?
Do you still make them for your own catalog? _________________

I still make them even though they need fixing desperately. The HTML is screwed up and shows madness in different browsers. I always do catalog pages. Why? I myself shop from the website primarily. I hate Shop Mode. Truly hate it. It's almost upsetting to see that people don't have pages anymore. Sometimes I don't try things on before I buy, stupid I know, but I only do this from developers I know and trust. For me, no product page is offputting. I'm aware some people don't know the existance of it now. In the previewer, I'm sure we were forced to enter a description before a product was submitted. To me, it come across as a bit lazy to be honest. Make wonderful products but don't bother to present it well. Imagine a jewelry shop with only small images of the items rather than the actual things. It wouldn't happen. New developers I can understand not doing it, and I do often prod people without any 'real' product page and explain the importance to shoppers like myself. 7/10 people then add a product page, but some ignore me. I had one girl shout at me to mind my own business _________________

Always web shop...always look at product pages.
To me a product page is like r/l viewing an item on the rack...if it looks good, I try it on. _________________

| Product Page is the key of giving the product a boost in terms of advertisement so not a compulsion still would look much better having one. |

I will always do them. Product pages can be very important when it comes to products as many of us know.
Example:
I have a furniture product with trigger word animations. Some one in my group got it as a freebie when I 1st made it. She never took the time to read the product page. She has had the product for over 2 months and until she was in my room the other day had no clue that there were triggers to it. If she would have taken the time to read the product page she would have been able to use it more this whole time.
Now, I've said it before but I will say it again. I will not buy a product that does not have a product page. There are others that fill the same way as I do. Maybe not as many that don't know there are product pages, but why take the chance of losing even one sell just because you didn't take a little time to make a small product page. _________________ CandyApple or PoisonApple, Which would you choose? |

to be honest i dont even buy a product without a product page..my way of thinking is if you cant put the effort in to show case your product then what does that say about the product itself?......i know alot of people may think its a waiste of time now because alot dont do it, but thats just the way i look at it.
Making a product page may take time but at least you feel like youve put 100% into your product....even for simple products it doesnt take that long to at least add a snap of the product and a simple description.
Leaving a totally blank description box or a one word description ,doesnt seem to me its had the time put into it,more like its been rushed to release
yeah i know alot will disagree because like i said they dont think its worthit and alot dont do it now and most people shop in client, but thats just my opinion, and i think alot of the older more established developers probably feel the same way...i hope, lol
oh and to add...who wants to leave a review on a blank page?..i know i dont. _________________

Absolutely YES for Calalog PAGES.
*I'd like them easier to access too, instead of the 'more information' link in-client, after clicking the I I'd prefer it to say - 'See Catalog Page' or 'See Product Page'.
That would be something purty easy for IMVU to fix AND get them more web hits in return - we'd all win. _________________

I always do product pages. Despite the impression that IMVU is trying to give... that people are shopping mainly from catalog icons in the client, I believe that this only applies to new Users, who have yet to discover the website catalog. That is my personal opinion. I believe "most" older IMVU users, as well as avid shoppers, still do the majority of their shopping on the website. I know that I do. Also, where else can you put necessary product directions and information? On a catalog icon? lol I will continue to do product pages because it's just part of the whole process of creating and selling products. It would feel like a job not completed, if I didn't do the last, and final step... the product page. _________________

Yea, there are many who shop in client while there are others who shop from web. Therefore, both product pages as well as icons are equally important.
Who am I kidding?
I do neither :/ _________________

Uhm, yes, that's a big dur in my book.
It doesn't matter how lazy some shoppers are - there is often important information to be relayed via the product page, such as triggers. If shoppers aren't looking at the product pages, then all I have to say is carpe diem.
Since I am also meshing nowadays, I almost always have important informaiton for the developers. |

Never effected my sales, so i no longer bother.
Providing triggers and textures/maps only thing i do now. _________________

If you mesh - yes. Atleast put a bigger pic of the mesh and any maps/templates needed for deriving.
If you texture? No. They really don't make a difference, unless you really care about the snobs who say they only shop from catalogs with full product pages for each item (most of those guys don't shop much anyway, so you aren't missing out). The key is a kick-ass icon. _________________ 399cr Derivables |

I think because you are not prompted upon submission to upload a description/image for the page it doesn't even occur to people to do it.
Personally, I like to bookmark things to try on later (when I can be bothered to load the client)... and if there's no larger image, only a tiny icon to look at I most likely will skip it.
If I happen to be in the client and try something on I occasionally may buy something if I really like it whether it has a page or not.
But I definitely prefer that it have a page.
But then.. I rarely shop.
I suspect most who are reading the forums will also be ones to use the web shop more than the client shop, or in my case - the client.
I wonder how many do actually know to look at the web pages anymore? _________________ my stuff |

the majority of product pages which are there either don't load at all or come up in a tiny little inch high box where you can't see anything anyway.
So i don't bother. _________________
