| I'm using the skin modifier to weight my mesh clothing. I am wondering if I have to add all the bones or just the pelvis or root node? |

If you want the piece of clothing to move correctly with the avatar, you need to 'physique' each part to the right area of the avatar. If it's just a small item that, say a hat, is only going to move with one part of the avatar, you can use skin for that. _________________

to add, you can also use Skin Modifier to weight complex meshes to multiple bones like avatar clothing to avatar skeleton and you will have to add all the bones, assigning each vertex to specific bones as needed. http://www.imvu.com/creators/education_center.php?tutorial_id=5219396 _________________
