I get the fact that you dont make much with promos but what you do get can be more valuable. When your products are bought with promo credits you get what are called dev tokens and with dev tokens you can dev without using all you credits. The more tokens you have the less credits you use to dev. which in turn helps you to dev more without spending a whole of your own credits.
Rose is absolutely right the more tokens the less credits they take . I also understand where your coming form as I am a creator also . But in the long run it does make sense to get the dev tokens . Good Luck to you Bratss

I completely agree with you. There should be a way to distinguish credits from promo credits as credits have more uses than promocredits. On the gaming site stardoll, there are starcoins and stardolls so that the type of purchase can be changed. If IMVU does not agree to this then at least give us users the ability to exchange promocredits with credits and vice versa from a credit exchange just like we used to do on stuffpoint with exchanging lunchmoney for credits.
It appears to me that the whole earn credits thing is just a ploy to get user information to advertisers who surely pay IMVU for the information. I.e., IMVU is using this to sell your personal data.
For the advertisers, I think this is probably bad business, because if a user's financial situation is such that they can't afford to buy credits, how are they supposed to buy the advertiser's product? They need to think about this. I.e. Targeting ads to people without money is surely a waste of time.
I don't have the numbers, so there's no way for me to know if what I'm about to suggest is viable, but it seems me that it might be more lucrative for IMVU in the long run to keep subscribers - especially the newer ones, as they are likely to become spenders in the future. Something like 15% of subscribers are below the age 18, and that's probably where most of the non-spenders are.
If people don't buy credits it's by choice or because they can't afford to. I don't see any other possibilities. Sooooo....
If the number crunching supported it, and I was running the business, I'd do the following:
Give everyone who did not buy/spend credits in a calendar month a stipend of maybe 1000-5000 credits a month. Just give. For people who can afford credits, this is a measely amount, and they are not going to quit buying credits to collect it. Devs and creators will end up getting a piece of this when it is spent.
Alternative idea is to give 5000 credits to anyone who does not have a balance over 1000 credits at any time during a calendar month.
The whole idea is to retain more people who might get discouraged, and in the long view, that should prove lucrative to IMVU, but like I said, I don't have the numbers to juggle to verify that.
