|
|
Maybe I'm not patient enough with search results, but I couldn't find an answer to my question.
I've was watching a video for SL textures:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCvRFefQn6w
And she does something interesting, she previews her texture on a 3d model within Photoshop, and it looks like she does a bit of work on it there too. I have CS4, and I know it has some sort of 3D painting capabilities but I've never even looked at them before.
What I would like to know, is if anyone thinks this is possible for IMVU? Like if you had the Max file. To do what she does in the video.
I'm curious, its a very interesting idea... _________________

Yes, if you have PS4 or 5 Extended and have the OBJ mesh file of what you want to paint you can do this.
For IMVU use its pretty much limited to meshers only as they are the ones with the assets need to do it. Contrarily SL uses the same UVs for all clothing (sans sculpted clothing) so its a lot more useful for SL clothing textures than IMVU ones. SL also provides the objs of their avatars making it extra easy.
I suppose someone could do up some OBJ basic IMVU avies for folks to play with, would only work for skins and skintight outfits though. I can try and do it but it will be a few days before i can give it a go. _________________ Showroom Public Room! Click Banner for Tutorials!

It was curiosity more than anything Keef, it would be alot more useful for SL in general I think. Their clothing has seams on the sides, where alot of ours does not.
It would be interesting to try at some point though. _________________

Wow that really looks interesting. I've always wanted to try out the 3D function in Photoshop. _________________

Give this a whirl as see if it works. I'm not on my computer with PS so cant test at the moment. If it does work I can remove the hair, seams and toss on a non default head.

*edit* updated file, no hair,no brows, all seams fused sans the neck. _________________ Showroom Public Room! Click Banner for Tutorials!

ahh cool, play with it and see how it goes.
I'm wondering if I should also remove the eyelashes as they are not part of the skin and may get in the way. If its useful ill work on a male version as well as a set whit the non default heads as the UV mapping is different on those. _________________ Showroom Public Room! Click Banner for Tutorials!

Hmm. I feel selfish asking you to remove the eyelashes, so instead, how are you removing pieces? I tried deleting the hair, glasses and such but it wouldnt export correctly. Eventually it worked but I dont know what I did differently. I know I'm not doing something right. I'm not much of a mesher so I know I am missing a step. If I knew how I could just do it. I'm sure other people would benefit from this as well.
Ah, learning... frustrating but rewarding.. =] |

What I first did was de-rig the whole body then delete all the bones.
Then I attached all the body parts together, deleted the things in the way, (hair and brows). then I welded together the verts of the different body parts so the seams would be smooth to paint over.
Then it was just select and export as obj.
What I will probably end up doing when I get some time is import in one of IMVU's different head shapes and replacing the head with one of those as no one really uses the bobble head for their skins.
hope that helps _________________ Showroom Public Room! Click Banner for Tutorials!

It does help. Tomorrow I'm going to jump into Max and try and tackle this myself just to see if I can.
And yea, I always replace the bobble head with Scarling's Sonja head in the previewer when texturing skin. |
