My post?! Noooooooooooo!
EDIT:
I'll just say it what I said earlier as a metaphor... I guess.
It's the concept of, "You can't have your cake and eat it too". It may apply to all kinds of roleplay, but that's my point. Some people just want the instant gratification of devouring a cake without any prolonged consequences or... heck... even building a relationship between characters at all. I like to "have my cake" where I can stare at it for hours examining it, determining its every ingredient and flavor, and describing every detail in words perfectly just to build the anticipation of taking that first bite. Of course, that bite may never happen, but it's all about the journey, not the destination.
I hope I got the message across...

EDIT 2:
Oops... Just ate my cake. Well now, I'm a hypocrite. |

My favorite way to role play currently is to attempt to woo every character in sight who will accept it. Now, I don't mean in a "I'm so beautiful that everyone faints as I walk in the room" sense, but I try to be realistic. I allow the characters and players decide for themselves whether or not to interact with my character. It's surprising to see how others react and I think it is just awesome to catch others off-guard. As a result, I get to play out fantasy relationships.
Of course, the interactions within these relationships are as various as can be. While some take a steady course with a gratuitous amount of character development that never get intimate others are full of gratuitous amounts of something else. But is that okay? Is there something wrong with allowing characters to be intimate with each other so long as they are in character?
Often times I am left wondering what fellow role players think of my method. When I play out romantic scenes I am genuinely interested in the characters and enjoy learning about the histories of both mine and others'. Perhaps adding onto their own history and perhaps permanently influencing future actions of their characters. Intimacy is a way to create a strong attachment between characters and open windows to situations either have never been in before. I look forward to the day when two characters mine has had relations with are in the same room.
It will be interesting.
Exploring story through romance and sometimes intimacy appeals to me much more than simply interacting with others with less of an attachment. So I come to you asking this: Is there some sort of taboo behind playing seductive characters? Is it possible to learn things about a character through intimacy that one would not learn any other way?
Let me know what you have to say.
(Just to clarify, my character doesn't always try to seduce people. If no one returns the flirting, he just goes about doing whatever he would do normally without any romantic interest around.) |
