Good luck finding anything in these forums. This is one of the messiest forums around.
Are you using Gimp, Photoshop? Sounds to me like you are not saving in a format that supports transparency. Are you saving it as .png? |

I am using gimp ( new to it ) and I am saving as png, I made a great sticker yesterday but I had to leave it the original size , when I go to re-size is when I am having this problem , I use paint to re-size .Let me ask You at which point do I save it to png ??? Could that be the problem , I believe i am saving it to png when I first bring it in Gimp. I also use most the *hiResnobg
Thanks for your help ... |

Using Paint to re-size, like MSPaint ?
That program doesn't support transparency in general.
Try downloading Paint.Net or uploading it to Photobucket and resizing it there instead. _________________ My Shop |

You need to learn how to use gimp.
Here is an old tutorial. Before the days of *hiresnobg so its kind of outdated but the way to resisize in gimp is still the same.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Open IMVU and open your room. I prefer Keef's greenroom but any room with a solid background can work. You can even use the IMVU white room. Press "F11 for full screen if using one of the newer clients. Hit "ctrl+b" twice to hide the bubbles. If you are trying to capture a shot from an animated pose you can freeze IMVU by pushing the "alt" key. I use the "Prt Sc"(printscreen) button cause its the quickest way I think. Get what you want on the screen and just push that button. Try to keep the avi as big as possible. Bigger is better for this. Once you get your shot open gimp and go to edit<paste.
You should have something like this. Please note. I saved this in .jpg format. DONT do that. I did it for easy loading of this tutorial. If you save it use .xcf or .png. I would recommend using .xcf. Its gimps native format and works best.
Go to the toolbox and choose the "select by color" tool. Its the one that is circled in red in the pic below.
Click the background color. The one we are going to clear. You should see a moving dashed line around your avi.
Go back to the toolbox and find the "color picker" tool. Click it and then click anywhere on the color you want to clear.
Now go back to the toolbox and click the foreground color.
The change foreground color window will pop up. Highlight the 6 numbers/letters that are the color and right click and copy it.
Now go to layer<transparency<color to alpha. The color to alpha window will pop up. Click the white rectangle.
The color to alpha color picker window will open. Paste the 6 numbers/letters that we copied from the foreground window into the space provided. and click "ok".
It will take you back to color to alpha window and the white rectangle will now be the new color. The one we want to clear. The preview will now be clear as well. Click "ok" and watch the background disappear.
Now we have successfully cleared the background but what do we do about all the other stuff? Ill show you 2 ways to get rid of it. First the quick way. Go to your toolbox and click the "rectangle select" tool.
Make a rectangle around your avatar.
Now go to edit<copy(if its a multi layer image use edit<copy visible). It will only copy whats in he box. Then go to edit<paste as<new image. It will paste what you just copied in a new window.
From the new window go to file<save as and save it with a .png extension to keep the clear background and set the compression to 0 and there you have it, avi sticker with a clear background. Want it smaller go to image<scale image and change one of the dimensions and click "scale" It will automatically change the other dimension to keep it proportioned.
Now the other way to crop the image. This way is a bit more complicated. We are going to change the canvas size. Go to image<canvas size and the window will open. First thing you want to do is click the chain next to the numbers. Now you can change one dimension and the other will not change.
Now change width and click the center button. The black lines are your new image borders. If its not centered between them you can use the up and down arrows to adjust it. Get it so your avatar is between the two black lines.
Now go back and change the height. DON'T click center this time. You can click the width number or either box next to "X" or "Y" and it will change. Again use the up and down arrows to adjust it so your avatar is in the box. Also select from the drop down menu at the bottom "resize all layers". Then click "ok".
Now you should have resized canvas. The layer should also be the same size as the canvas.
If you want it smaller scale it down and then save it with a .png extension to keep the transparent background.
Thats it not much more I can think of. Should be enough info to get you going. You got any questions or trouble please feel free to ask questions. Most important thing to remember, have fun and happy gimping. |

| You also might be experiencing a common problem I would. Open a new image and when it gives you options of how big it is, type in 800x800 and make sure you click transparent. Then paste the image you were trying to fix as a new layer. Then use the fuzzy wand select tool and press the delete button on your keyboard. |
