We are currently running a process to close any public room whose owner is disabled on IMVU - either through voluntary disablement or by IMVU.

Such rooms will no longer be available to visit, in your search results or in your recently visited/favorites list.

We are doing this in an effort to clean up the rooms that were not being actively controlled and moderated as the room owner is not active on IMVU.

Again, only rooms owned by disabled accounts should be affected.

Thank you.

UPDATE: The process has actually closed any public rooms if their owner has been inactive on IMVU for over 90 days i.e. not logged into their IMVU account via 3D Chat client.

If the room owner returns to IMVU and logs in, he/she will find the rooms in their Manage Room tabs and can open them back again.

Could this be expanded to include rooms who have owners that have not signed in for a number of months ?

This is really frustrating... Just becaue the mod, or owner isn't active anymore, doesn't mean that the room is not active. Three of my favorite rooms got deleted, and they're the few public rooms that I can actually go into due to well managed (for the people by the people basically). There isn't a need for mods anymore due to the "mute" option.
To me, this was a stupid idea.

adding on to what I said, to me, this was the easy way out. Yes, I know it would take a lot of time, and effort, but that's what I would of wanted from you guys. You should of looked at the room first to see if it is active or not.

People have complained time and again that popular rooms, active rooms, are being spammed by scammers and trolls. If there are no owners or mods then there is no way to stop that.

If someone's favourite room has gone then they can always make a copy of it with similar name for their friends to come there. It's the friends that matter, not the surroundings for the chat (unless you are RPing)

Thanks Varsha, for finally clearing out all the old unowned rooms.

Thanks Auntie. Yes you are absolutely right. This step was taken to ensure better control of rooms that are in use.

An IMVU user whose room has been closed but wishes to re-open it, can simply log back into their account and make the room public again.

Thanks

Rolling Eyes smh

Closing popular rooms is just destructive for IMVU.

This shows alot how poorly IMVU and many forum writers understands what people actually wants.

Lame.

Some of the best rooms were the unmoderated ones... Not having to deal with boot-happy elitist room owners made IMVU enjoyable.

Adieu, fond memories~

Exactly. For those who complained about the trolls and scammers, just don't go to the rooms. It's the friends that matter right? Not the surroundings.

And there is a way to stop scammers and trolls from bothering you, it's called the mute button. Is that not the reason you created it? To mute the people who bother you? Hello.

Oh gee, thank you for closing down one of the only rooms I actually enjoyed going to.

Like it was said before, after the mute option was made, it was no longer an issue if a user was spamming the chat or trying to annoy anyone in the room. You could just mute them and they would be gone. Problem solved. Anyone who did not do this and would rather complain about being annoyed with someone just doesn't know how to behave in a public setting. "Oh that user is annoying me!" "Why don't you mute them?" "Because I have to reply back to them to show my superiority and uniqueness!" (Superiority and uniqueness in this case reads: Stupidity and inability to be mature.)

Also: Thank you for closing down one of the only gay friendly rooms that was also directed at the gay community on the first page. Way to show support.

"Oh you can just make a new room."

Yeah, because no one's going to go on a power-trip and boot everyone in the room they don't feel like talking to/do it for the "lulz". You know what kind of users you cater to IMVU, you know this will happen. And this room was on the first page so people could easily find it. And it was just fine the way it was.

How about instead of playing around with your client features like script kiddies you start making yourselves more appealing by investing in quality? How about that? That would be nice. Maybe fixing some clippings that occur with our avatars and the products they are wearing, fixing some conflicts, working together with developers to do so. How about devoting your time and effort to not screwing us over?

Or, like it happened during the "Portals" idea before people started complaining about how much of a rip-off it was I can just go back to Second Life. Because that option is always open. My account there is still active and ready to be used.

Change is good. Just not completely useless change that does nothing good for the community. I'm sorry you think the baby users of the site that don't know how to resolve a conflict maturely deserve your time more than us other users that do. Maybe you don't deserve our money either. Immature, irresponsible people shouldn't be handling money.

This is great news Varsha. So many users have been asking for this feature for a long time. So glad the abandoned rooms will be closed. Over the years, I heard so many complaints and reports in the forums about harassment and abuse from such rooms.

Well done.
