I call shenanigans. They've exceedingly rarely, if ever, done this in a noticeable manner.

Here's a guess. Given how long it took them to come out with a Mac and mobile version (the latter STILL completely ignoring Android and Windows Phone 7 devices), probably 3 or 4 years. |

It doesn't matter. The matter of the fact is they stated it was beta, und would be temporary. End of story.
You people can moan und complain about it all you want, it doesn't change the fact that it was a -temporary- thing. You all knew this when portals were first rolled out.
So you can't legitimately be upset when they stated it was temporary which means it would be taken away. IMVU, the client as it stands, has so many bugs as it is. Even though portals were running relatively smooth, it wasn't a long term thing for the client now. _________________

Finally, IMVU came up with something half-decent (unlike the goofy "free gifts" we get all the time) and, wham, it's gone. This really blows. _________________ The Lady Morgana |

Hey, I just saw something interesting... XD Probably doesn't matter now buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...
http://blog.imvu.com/transport-between-imvu’s-chat-rooms-using-portals/
It is what they released about the portals. For those too lazy to read it all...
"We are excited to beta test the Portals feature with our community and get feedback. Add portals to your rooms and see how you can coolly transport yourself from one room to another. Do note that this is a beta version and during the next 30 days we are offering it to all our users for free. After the trial period, there will be fees associated with adding portals to your rooms and scenes. Any portals you add to your rooms in the 30-day period are yours to keep."
Once again, IMVU changes their minds on something without letting everyone know... or editing the proof to cover their tracks. |

They plan to give them back later... with a fee for each one we install...
It's not worth it. |

| That's especially true since they already took all of the portals away. If they bring them back they can charge for them...but I don't think they're coming back. |

So, I have installed but never used portals, from the 1-4 pages I read, portals are for the... Lazy people, to easily hop from one room to another without having to look on your friends list, or your favorited rooms to go to another.
I for one never had lag, or anything on imvu with portals, and my lag is minimal, if any. And yes my friend has a 40k kb outfit, an avrage outfit now is about 2, mine is 1.5. The only, ONLY lag I had was when he loaded the outfit, and that was a 2 second lag.
Just to give you specs of my laptop
Rating 3.3 and 3.4 for gaming and graphics respectively
Pentium dual core CPU
T4300 @2.10GHZ
4.0 gig ram
As you can see, there is nothing special (besides the ram. It is the reason I got the laptop) I did not add graphics cards or anything, and I am running 64 bit windows 7. _________________ /

As you know, we introduced the Portals feature for a beta test for our community to use. We have collected data and feedback about the feature and wanted to thank you for testing it out!
We will be removing the feature from IMVU's 3D Chat effective January 15th, 2012. The portal management tools will no longer be available as part of the room decorating options and all existing portals that have been placed in the rooms will be removed.
Again,we appreciate you using the feature in its beta phase and providing extremely useful feedback. The feature may return with some improvements in the future, however, there is no set timeline for it at this time.
Thank you. |
Sorry, I have not been in forum for awhile but I was glad to see them go as some people ruin a good thing for all of us. As I know that adults or AP user were showing under age users how to use portals to enter AP rooms.
There are still flash widgets you can get from Tidy and create your own portals. |

Portals were the least of their issues, I can tell you at least one other way people could do the same thing.
Back on Topic...
I don't really care if they are gone or not, maybe they will focus on fixing what is already broken. _________________

This is not true. While portals could be created leading to AP rooms and these could be placed in GA rooms, a person with a GA account could not use those portals. A blue dot appeared, but it did not go anywhere. |

EPIC FAIL! I was going to use one for my wedding! Now I gotta remove my portal generator! Way to fail. -.- It was working, why would they remove it? Why fail so hard? _________________ Twilight fans can kiss my Anita Blake lovin' butt! VAMPIRES DON'T FREAKING SPARKLE! |

So this would explain why I could "place" portals with ctrl+g but not use them... dang. I was really liking them for more immersive roleplaying worlds. Removing them kind of ruins the magic. Also I really need to update.
Here's to hoping they return. |
