Before I start the tutorial it is important to know the basic body parts on the standard IMVU body mapping. This tutorial uses a product that has standard body mapping and a variation of the standard mapping for the dress. This pic shows a wire frame with all the parts and labels...

And Here is how it works on the body with opacity layers.

You can adjust the length of the dress in the same way as the body suit. When the tut showed how to turn the one piece body suit into shorts and a top. You will use the dress opacity layer to do the same thing. You just paint black to remove whatever you don't want. You can make the dress long, short, mini, micro or even split it in the center to become a skirt and top. Heck you could even use a solid black opacity map and make the dress disappear all together, leaving only the body suit.

Dalamar,

In picture #8 you say "Now it's time to make your texture and opacity maps. Open the files you saved from the product page earlier."

My question is: With what program do we open these 2 files? This is point at which you (and everyone else) loses me. I don't know if we open them in "create" or with "gimp" or whatever.....

Please help me along this process!! Thank you. Smile

This is where you open the texture in Gimp or Photoshop or whatever program you use to create textures. You will make your texture with Gimp and then apply it in Create Mode.

Double transparency causes it while using blending.
It's like using it onces and then stand behind a window im a room where transparency (opacity) was used also.

When I make a dress shorter, I don't hit the opacity button. When I give the same dress a lace back, I use it.

Could you make a close up from the purple section now?
Because in my case it is to small to see (sorry, old lady here)

Is it only when the arm is down? Does it change when her arm is in a different position? What is the product ID number? Then we can go check it out for ourselves too. It looks like an opacity issue but it could be clipping.... we just need to go look.

my product id

http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=26275618

the parent id is

http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=24603899

the only thing i can figure is the sleeve mesh is extra long,so since the opacity is white and the dress is white , plus the blending (sheer) makes it transparent

and to answer the question dosent matter the arm position

I did a little experimenting with that dress. My suggestions are to set your material layers as follows:

layers 11, 10, 09 and 08
give a solid black opacity layer.
Leave blending off (unchecked) This will hide them completely.

Layer 00
make your under garment(s) to cover the MCG and leave blending OFF

Layer 01
Make the front of your dress. If there is an area that you want transparent cut that area out in your opacity layer with solid black. You will be adding that in later.
Leave Blending OFF in layer 01.

Layer 02 T
The back of the dress. I would make all the solid parts of the dress here and black out the transparent parts in the opacity layer. They will be added in layer 05 later.
Leave blending OFF in Layer 02

Layer 03
Black will trim the sleeves use gray for transparency.
You should have blending ON for Layer 03

Layer 04
If you want anything transparent on the front of the dress this is where you will have it. It will be in the places you hid with black in layer 02. If you have transparent areas in the front of the dress then layer 04 will have blending ON

Layer 04 alternate...
I don't think the dress you showed us has anything transparent in the front of the dress. If there is nothing see through then simply hide this layer with a solid black opacity and
keep blending OFF.

Layer 05
This is where I would make the transparent section for the back of the dress. Black out the whole opacity except where you want to show your transparent section. Make the transparent section gray on your opacity map.
Leave blending ON in layer 05.

Layer 06
This is a second set of sleeves and does not appear to be needed in your design. You can do either of these two things. you can make a duplicate of layer 03 texture and opacity and leave blending ON... OR... I would suggest just giving layer 06 a black opacity layer and leaving
blending OFF on layer 06.

Don't do anything to layer 07.

When I set layers to these settings I only had clipping and transparency issues when the sleeves crossed each other. They did not seem to cause any problems with the body of the dress. This is the best suggestion I have for you at this time. If anybody else has better solutions I'd like to hear them myself. They would be useful to me also.

thank you so much that fixed the problem! like you said now only if her hand touches the arm it becomes transparent, I can live with that

just a side note on #06 , if i duplicate layer 3 it works fine, but if i try to just use a black opacity here the dress part in layer one reverts back to the problem
