We are disabling IMVU 3D chat client versions 458.12 through 458.32 effective immediately.
Users who are currently logged into one of these versions will be disconnected and asked to upgrade to the latest release so they can log back in.
Users who have one of these releases installed on their computers will be asked to upgrade when they try to log in after this time.
This step is taken to address some security-related issues affecting these versions.
Thank you. _________________ Varsha - Sr. Manager Community Experience

I must say this is the worse communication method IMVU has employed yet. Suddenly crashing the client without any message in client of why. How about a blue bar message and letting me close the client myself and update. If you say it is a security reason I certainly would need no more push to do so. I happened to be reading this announcement seconds before this occured. If I had merely had a few minutes to respond I could have avoided the system hang this caused! _________________

What I find amazing, and probably shouldn't, is that the warning we got about this upcoming forced update was from a peer and not staff. _________________

To be clear, this was not a forced upgrade. A few pre-releases for the 458 version were disabled because they had some security issues. We looked at the data and very few users were actually using those few pre-releases hence the limited communication. _________________ Varsha - Sr. Manager Community Experience |

It's how I take it, Varsha, and simply how I see it when the client version I'm using is disconnected. I'm forced to update.
For security issues, fine. But why not get a heads up from staff about it? Hopefully it's because meshes were still getting lifted from CM. _________________

Varsha seen as your company is cited the reason being security ones for the switching off of the client versions involved thats really why i feel it's been poor communication. Security issues when arise should get more peoples attention and a lot quicker. Instead we get a small little announcement that next to no people end up seeing. _________________

We are also sending a message to those users who are on these versions, however, not a site wide communication to all users. Again only those users who happen to be on one of the disabled versions will get the message. _________________ Varsha - Sr. Manager Community Experience |

I was using version 458.14 and it was working all fine for me and had no problem....why did all those versions had to be disabled??? now i'm forced to stay with the version 458.10 but this version don't have that ability of loading the room fast after you load it the first time like it is in version 458.14 and i cant update to the latest version cause its all messed up still, especially the messed up particle effects....please fix them so i can update. _________________

Every time I check the forum I see an endless stream of complaints about one problem or the other with the new clients. I have enough problems already so I don't do any updates until I see issues being resolved. Oh I installed 456.14 as a secondary client when previewer was disabled, but seldom use it due to it's problems. Someday you will know what the only solution is, but until then I'll just hold on waiting. _________________ Tempus Unum Hominem Menet

the security issue in these prereleases is because the client actually allowed html coding
I made a banner for a friend and when I tried to send him the html code so he can paste it on his home page...the actual banner showed up in the text chat box...yes...pictures in a text chat box....now what if someone pasted an html code for hacking...and it worked....it would have possibly resulted in a lot of hacked accounts. You wouldn't want that now would you guys? _________________

BLUE BAR or SITE WIDE PM. WHY do you people insist on taking things that should be simple and over complicating it?
Blue bars are on the top of EVERY page, and you have made them so you can't get rid of it (it was actually a good idea for a change). Just take out thhe other 4 "OMGWEWa1NTYOURMONEY" offers and mark it with a big red URGENT MESSAGE.
Mass email to ALL users. It seems counter-intuitive not to do it this way since 1) you have to go through and look for every person using the prerelease, and 2) "Due to security problems, we are promptly disabling xxx.xx. Please inform any of your friends and check out the forums for more details" doesn't seem like a hard email to write. You love making us do YOUR work anyway; why change it now? I guess IMVU gets a rush from deliberately trying to p*ss it's customers, THE REASON THEY'RE IN BUSINESS AT ALL, off _________________ And the plight of IMVUbook marches on |

Overcommunication can sometimes cause more confusion - considering only about 3000 users are on these pre-releases, sending a QM to hundreds of thousands of users or putting up a bluebar is not productive.
Locking the thread since the announcement has been done and the releases have been disabled.
