|
Since one of the recent pre-releases, those of us who had the animation slider before now can use it again. I love this feature, because of my limited tolerance for motion, it really does help me stay in a room longer as I don't have to watch spastic dancing and crazy fast texture animations.
But staff is resisting keeping the feature or giving it to newer users.
They are not listening to us again (I know, what's new), but I'm putting this up. When they took away the slider, I couldn't chat for more than twenty minutes without getting motion sick.
It would be a nice feature for everyone that lets us control our own personal client experience without taking away anything from the other users. _________________ Laele's Mad Creations |

i second this motion.
i remember being on an older comp for a while and the animations speed was ok because well it was an older comp so it was slow in the first place.
then i went a brought something faster and the animations were to fast to friggin tell what was going on.
with out being able to controle how fast the animations are i just wouldnt bother to buy them or use them at all. _________________

My computer processes animation pretty damn'd fast. That slider helps to keep me from getting dizzy and feeling yucky. This possibility to make the client A BETTER EXPERIENCE, as imvu claims is their goal, should be available to every user, old or new. They're doing enough to turn the old members away, why would they want to turn away new ones, too? _________________

I wholeheartedly agree as well. I was shocked and very concerned when they took away the animation slider yet again. I tried the client without the slider and the animations were to fast, I got a headache within 20 minutes. I felt sick too. I understood too, why many of my friends on newer accounts don't dance much.
As pointed out, if imvu truly want their customers to have a good experience on the client, they will give the animation slider to new and old accounts. WE NEED IT IMVU. Simple as that.
Animatons are interweaved all throughout the 3d client. You can't get away from them. Without a speed control, your client becomes unbearable imvu. _________________

All accounts require it some computers are to high spec'd for IMVU to run as a reasonable rate and others won't. The slider allows all people regardless of their system to at least function to a reasonable degree and helps improve the experience. _________________

mod hat off
I completely agree. The animation slider is a necessity to allow people to adjust the animations to a speed that their eyes and their computer are happy with. _________________

I didn't figure I'd see much dissention. Thanks for the support folks.
Now to see what excuse Staff gave me in the new release thread for not letting us all have it. _________________ Laele's Mad Creations |

I was extremely concerned when Varsha posted in the latest release thread that they were evaluating the slider, and had no plans, at this time, to give the slider to new accounts.
Whatever reasoning imvu thinks they have, it does not weigh up against the health risks. PSE is a very real health problem and the effects of an attack, can be very serious. IMVU are totally failing with their duty of care towards their customers.
IMVU, you have in your own TOS about PSE and you are breaking it, by not having speed adjustment for ALL accounts. _________________

If THAT slider is causing issues, then give us all access to A slider.
Not all animated products have the same animation rate from the start of IMVU to now, so you cannot determine that one rate is good for all. _________________

Karen, I still am concerned about that. I am concerned that they are going to remove it for everyone. I get the feeling that our uproar about the animation slider hurt the feelings of one of their favorite coders or something and they'll sneak it back out again, to see if we notice or something.
I've never understood why there's a need to have two different versions of the client, enabled by join date only. What, new PC's don't have crackhead speed animations rendered or something? Seems to me, having that date joined "stamp" if you will, just throws a potential monkey wrench into the works that additional coding has to be wrote for on the back-end.
That code writing time could be better spent in optimizing the overall code in my opinion. _________________ If love is blind, why do we need lingerie? |

There are certain laws surrounding this subject, possibly their own Americans With Disabilities Act but definately the Equality Act here in the United Kingdom.
Firstly we need to know about the eye conditions that IMVU use can worsen.
Photosensitive Epilepsy
Photosensitive epilepsy (PSE) is a form of epilepsy in which seizures are triggered by visual stimuli that form patterns in time or space, such as flashing lights, bold, regular patterns, or regular moving patterns.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosensitive_epilepsy
Nystagmus
Nystagmus is a form of involuntary eye movement. It is characterized by alternating smooth pursuit in one direction and saccadic movement in the other direction.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathologic_nystagmus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdU_2DWI7cY
IMVU use can make these conditions worse with the use of the animation used, by allowing all IMVUsers to option to alter this animation within the chat client you are allowing them the choice to use, increase, and decrease the animations speed allowing them to sue your service for longer periods without experiencing a medical side effect to doing so.
One of the problems with the 2 above issues is that 90% of the population do not even know they may experience such an eye condition until it is too late, so by not offering the user option to alter the animation speed to all IMVUsers you are actually breaking certain laws by treating some less favourably than others.
it has been found that 1 in 2000 people actually have some form of Nystagmus http://www.umaeyehospital.com/nystagmus-a-little-known-yet-surprisingly-common-eye-condition/ and with an average IMVUser number of 100,000 by not allowing this simple option to be included in all versions of the IMVU chat client you are or may be potentially effecting or making the eye sight worse of approximately 5000 people.

Sintek PSE is already a part of the TOS and has been for quite sometime now. _________________
