To Prevent hacking. I think imvu needs a pc code for each avatar someone use from there computer. I think they need an"Away" password just in case someone decide to switch computers. So if someone decides to hack, and they hack someone else's "Away" code and there regular imvu password, I think imvu should run a scan to trace there IP address or IMVU should assign an indidvual code that identifies each computer, then send a message to the rightful owner of the avatar, as such "Are you aware so and so logged in as your name".. if they click no. i think imvu should immediately disable the hacker as they would already have the hackers IP address, until further notice.

I vote yes cause well this is a good idea. If possible there should be some way to do this. I travel alot and have to contact friends to make sure my accounts are safe while Im out of town. Its a big fear to be hacked while out of town. However a friend of mine stated to me " ost peoples internet connections are dynamic these days their ip's constantly change" So how would this work?

Either IP address, or imvu should give every computer a code that someone logs in as, every computer shoud have one. That would identity every person on here. So if someone logs in as someone else. there code should come up from that computer they hacked from. and any account associated on that computer they hacked from. Should be immediatly disabled

When you changed certain info it will send a email stating what ip it came from. Not long ago a friend was hacked from that email we was able to track who hacked her. A so called friend she reported that all to imvu. Nothing was done to the other person.

Yeah they need to become more strict. because not only hacking theres real murders that reguard IMVU as well, or credit card theft or social security theft, viruses.. i Think they need to become strict as such as banning, involving the law or just handling everything accordingly. We pay money, VIP , AP, name changes.. we should have the right to want to violate any who violate us.

Very true I know for a fact there has been murders, suicides, stalking,
harassing and fraud. But its up to IMVU to try to curve some of that. When you block someone and they make other accounts or have messages sent via your friends IMVU should step in to. Ive had that happen all IMVU said to do was report and block the person. Well duh I did and they are now harassing my friends to get to me. And the person is a known trouble maker. I know IMVU can block at IP level they need to take more strict actions against people.

I see where you're going with this suggestion, but it has it's issues. First, you cannot link one account to an IP address as some places like houses, dorms, apartment blocks, public buildings and such can all share the same IP address. Plus, as many of us have dynamic IP addresses, they could change as often as every-time you turn your modem or router on.

Secondly, while I do like how you thought about how to access an account when you're away from your PC (which many suggestions like this have failed to do in the past), I think it does just add complication.

People seem to think you need a hundred and one complicated ways to fool people who break into accounts (I say this and not hacking, because if a system is hacked, everyone's account is compromised. Hackers think big, they won't go through all the hassle breaking into IMVU's database to hack just one account, they'll take all of them like they did with RockYou where they got details of 32 million users, so hacking isn't the actual problem). Most users lose their accounts down to scamming (Give me your password and I'll get your a million credits), phishing (a fake IMVU login page), virus or keylogger (to monitor the computer that is being targeted) or some form of social engineering where they will do something like guess the security question on your email account so they can then later send the forgotten password link on IMVU and get the password sent to them via your email.

All in all, these are things the users can do to protect themselves. Be web smart and not fall for scamming or phishing. Have up to date anti-virus and anti-malware programs, not to download or go on dodgy links and to practise internet security so they won't fall for social engineering.

There is a case of IMVU having a problem right now of users being randomly logged into other people's accounts by accident. Some users who experience this are good and try to get logged out as soon as possible. Others abuse the glitch and steal from the account for their gain.

Now, that is IMVU's issue and not with the user. There is nothing you or I could do about this. But sadly, your suggestion won't even help with this glitch as they don't even type in a password to get logged into these accounts, they simply move around the IMVU site or refresh a page and bam, they're suddenly on someone's else's account.

To prevent things like this happening, a better option would be that of a PIN number before spending or sending any credits as the person in the account won't know the password or the PIN. This won't help scammers, people who are phished, those who get viruses/keyloggers or those who are social engineered, but we can prevent that with education. The PIN would help those who suffer from the glitch I talked about before.

Here's a link to the PIN suggestion if you're interested in reading it.

Other suggestions have also included having a physical device (like a USB dongle) that is linked to your account plugged into the computer you're using to give you access to more sensitive areas of your account, like using credits. A user would pay for it, have it shipped to them and they plug it in whenever they want to fully use their account.

I would link you to the discussion, but I can't find it Razz

Court cases get thrown out all the time. I saw a case case once where someone wanted to sue the government for hiding the fact he was abducted by aliens. A law firm took the man's case, went to a hearing and the judge threw it out in the first ten minutes. Happens everyday.

So until an actual judge allows the process to go to court past the hearing stage, anyone can sue anyone and it will mean nothing. Once a judge finds the prosecutor has a case, then it will hold some weight and mean something, but until then, treat all cases just like the man suing the government for hiding the fact he was abducted by aliens.

I vote yes because it's not fair to users who are not yet internet savvy and fall prey to others. I hope this stops the morons who take others accounts out of spite or to just be mean. I really do not like when people "hack" others accounts just to steal credits. I have noticed one idiot would frequently post on pulse announcing he was a hacker, also found out there are people bragging about such or wanting to learn such in rooms.

Oh I would also like to add I know what you are talking about Qwerty aol employees still use them I think they call them SIDs tho.

Mod hat off
IP blocking is a waste of time which is why IMVU doesn't do it. It takes about 10 seconds to alter your IP and many countries use dynamic IP as normal practice. It would have zero impact on scammers, hackers or stalkers and would inevitably end up punishing innocent users who happened to have temporarily been given a banned IP.

The hackers and scammers use sophisticated methods that hide their location and it is not that simple to block them.

A second password for use when on another PC is an interesting idea, but again, if based on IP this would cause definite problems for many people.
Not just those who never have the same IP two days running, but also those who cannot remember passwords that are not frequently used.

There are things that you can do to reduce the likelihood of someone getting into your account:-

Have a strong password with symbols, numbers, and capitals mixed in.
Change that password fairly regularly.
Never ever tell the password to anyone. Not to your best friend or your boy/girlfriend or someone promising to customise your homepage and most especially not to someone who says that they can give you free credits.
Never give out the email address that you used to make the account.
Have a good antivirus program and keep it updated.
Always log out when you leave your PC, especially if you do not live alone.
Don't use Google Chrome to log in to IMVU.

I guess you didn't read any of the earlier posts.
I can change my IP in about 35 seconds, they have programs that do it for you. It'd do nothing.
