you will have to get the exporter for sketchup to do that ...should be in the creator centre...that being said I think there is only one version of sketchup and that is Pro that is compatable with IMVU _________________

Hello! welcome to the workd of SketchUp
all your downloads can be found here.
do not even attempt to use the exporter made by IMVU.Inc. simply cause the fact, it dont work.
For help with SketchUp you can join the SketchUp group, they a helpfull bunch, find them here
PS: all versions of SketchUp from 6 to 8 work with IMVU, free version or pro it dont matter. _________________ SCREENIE | IMVU CACHE CLEANER | IMVU FILE EDITOR |

Hey I am not a "PRO" but I have been using SU 5,6, 7, and even 8 now for 2 + years.. and Found the exporter this place made is without any merit. Sorry to say.
HellStrongs work, and others have made it a viable alternative to the rather EXPENSIVE program that is used by many. _________________

Some history.
Back in 2006 I started meshing with sketchup version 4 or 5 (I forget),
And it was fun at the time but the exporter was bad, so after using it for a year making many meshes I moved on to Blender.
xJonnx was kind enough to teach me to mesh with Blender and I submitted a couple meshes with it as I was learning 3ds Max.
Now I'm a full time 3ds Max user and submitted plenty of meshes in the catalog with Max.
Now coming across Hellstrong's post here I see quite an improvement in sketchup.
So I downloaded version 8 with the meshout and followed neo's tutorial for his mat mesh. Deja Vu over getting back into using sketchup.
I downloaded the furniture chair example v5 and the example furniture.
But it new to me and I got to learn this over again.
I know if I exported the mesh it added a root node, but I want to add my own, so how do I do that?
Why are the standing nodes named catcher01.Standing & Catcher01.Standing?
I see the Handle node as yellow.
I presume the 'double pyramid' is the Root node?
I need re-educated in sketchup again.
Throw your thoughts at me where you think I might need help with.
Kind of fun going back and playing with sketchup again.

Forget the above I got most of it figured out except one thing.
When I pin my first texture and set it as it should be, how do I pin the next texture because when I apply a second texture and right click there is no 'texture' there to then go to 'position'. _________________

paint the surface with your textures then you can reposition and pin it.. _________________

hehe of all the things ur over thinking it, grab the paint tool and and paint all surface's u want painting, if u want the same size pinning use the eyedropper tool in the paint bucket box (keyboard shortcut hold Alt and click the one u wish it to mimic the pinning of) then paint the next one and so on ^_^
major down side to sketchup is still its pinning, complex shapes u have the choice of ether a projected texture or sitting for hours working out best way to pin (tho there is a plugin available allowing you to export to other tools, some free, blender and max are in the export list) it dose a quick export and loads them up u map ur textur the way u want and pull it back into sketchup
i know a couple staff members build there mesh's in sketchup then export to max for texturing and detailing due to how fast sketchup is ^_^ _________________

I got the original v1 of Hellstrong's animator to make an animated object without standing nodes.. but it worked.
ok.. now here is what I did..
1: made primary mesh ( in your case the broom)
1A: Export using IMVU file exporter by Hellstrong
2: made separate directory for the animations to be done in.
3: copy and paste from original to new and save in the new direct directory.
4: in the animation skp.. Draw your path you want to follow from the origin point .. Save it!!!!!
5: From the plane skp in the animation directory copy the Handle.Frame#1 node into your broom skp file under or near the broom
6: copy both the broom and the handle.
7: drag then to the first position you want to go .Rotate both is you want.
VERY IMPORTANT Make them UNIQUE
8: repeat step 7 until you get to where either you want to stop or are back to the beginning position.
9: SAVE IT!!!!!!
10: export using Meshout.
note the more complex the longer it will take to export.
11: open SU Animator V1
12: select the XSF found in your animation directory and click EXPORT
When completed
Open PID "12908" (the IMVU chair)
Add "\Weighted_XSF.xsf" in the Special tab
Add "\Mesh\(what ever you have been working on).XMF" in the Geometric tab
Add a texture in the materials tab and set it to "two sided"
Press "Apply Changes"
#Actions Tab
In the Actions tab add a new action.
as your trigger type "stance.Idle" (without quotes) you can set it to trigger by changing this to what ever you want to trigger with... up, down, fly etc.
Set "ensembles played" to 0 (this will make a infinite loop.)
Set "Type" to "Room"
In the red part, browse for your XAF file ("Animation\Whatever.XSF.xaf")
and press "Apply Changes"
And our project is ready to lift off!
not all that hard to do it just takes time.

How do I "downsave" ?
The reason I ask is this.
I downloaded sketchup version 8
But I now want version 7.
Because of this quote from autodesk & sketchup...

SketchUp to 3ds Max, anyone?
Friday, October 22, 2010 3:42 PM
Those of you who use SketchUp with 3ds Max 2010 are in luck; the folks over at Autodesk have created a nice importer that should make your life just a little bit easier. They've even made a lovely video to show it off:
The new SketchUp import capabilities are part of the Connection Extension available to 3ds Max 2010 and 3ds Max Design 2010 Subscription members.
Tip: Just in case the new importer only works with SketchUp 6 and 7 files, remember that you can always "downsave" to an earlier version from SketchUp 8
|
Now I can't find a place to download sketchup version 7, all the sites have version 8.
Anybody got a link to download version 7?
Thxs.

To down save, click on save as, and in the drop down you can select previous versions to save as, ie. 7,6,5,4, etc. _________________
