This list contains all 3ds Max sample files provided by IMVU that are to be found (or it will if/when it's finished).

NOTE: If anyone posts other official IMVU sample 3ds Max files, I'll update this first post. For now, I'm not listing other people's sample files - just the IMVU files. Files from others would seem to fall under more of a "user contributed tutorials" place where as this is just a gathering of what IMVU provides.

NOTE: As of 8 Jan, 2014 (maybe a few months earlier), some of the female avatar files have been re-uploaded by IMVU in Max 2011 format!! They will NOT open in Max 2010 or earlier.

Avatar Files:
From Help Topic "Avatar Body Parts Intro":
* Female Weighting File (Max 2011 and newer only): Female04_Anime01_WeightingPoseMASTER.zip
* Male Weighting File: Male03_Anime01_WeightingPoseMASTER.zip

From Help Topic "Avatar Animation Files":
* RiggedAvatarMASTER.zip (Max 2011 and newer only): RiggedAvatarMASTER.zip
* FemaleAction.ZIP (Max 2011 and newer only): Female04_Anime01_IdleStandingPoseMASTER.zip
* MaleAction.ZIP: Male03_Anime01_IdleStandingPoseMASTER.zip
* CooperativeAnimation.ZIP (Max 2011 and newer only): CooperativeAnimation.zip
* Biped Animation Rig: bipedRig_Basic.zip

From Help Topic "Default Avatar Models":
* StandingSitting_Default.max: StandingSitting_Default.max
* SittingAvatars_Default.max: SittingAvatars_Default.max
* 20_Avatars_Default.max: 20_Avatars_Default.max

Avatar Heads:
From Help Topic "Avatar Heads":
* Female Head File: IMVU_ExampleHead_Female.zip
* Male Head File: IMVU_ExampleHead_Male.zip

Accessories:
The only sample file I know is really the main "Weighting" avatar file, which includes a pair of sunglasses for the female avatar and two sample nodes - AttachmentRoot and AttachmentNode
From Help Topic "Accessories Intro":
* Female Weighting File (Max 2011 and newer only): Female04_Anime01_WeightingPoseMASTER.zip

Rooms:
From Help Topic "Introduction To Rooms":
* example 3D scene: example3droom.zip

Furniture:
From Help Topic "Intro to Furniture":
* Example Chair: Product12908_Furniture_chair01.zip
* Example Couch: Product12907_Furniture_couch01.zip
* Example Bar: Product12909_Furniture_bar01.zip
* Example Window: Product12906_Furniture_window01.zip

Textures:
The following is not really 3ds Max related, but sorta kinda close:
Product Texture Files in PSD format
Super Furniture Product textures (part of the Super Furniture Product)
Sofa Textures (part of the Create Furniture tutorial)

Missing Files:
* File "MASTER_lightingRig.zip" - somewhat "useless" file that really just had lights in it, for use with the old Vertex Lighting How-To
* Older Head file, with more head variations embedded as morphs (I got this from a friend and can't remember who and not sure if IMVU would allow this to be released "publicly")
* File "Product12901_exampleFurnitureRoom.zip" - example room with skeleton, sized-right chairs, a door, sample nodes, etc. If anyone can find a link to this on IMVU's website, please let me know. If not, I can upload to my personal server and share it out.

Updated 2011/06/01 - Fixed the "Missing Files" section. Thought about changing one random link to a Rick Roll, but changed my mind.

I'm happy to update this, btw, if anyone spots new files or if IMVU changes names/locations of files. I found the above by manually following links, over and over and over. It will only be as good as everyone helps make it. (that is, don't blame the scribe)

I am building in Lightwave, exporting to FBX, then importing that in Max. These sample files should help in sizing items. Thanks.

@II24II - Are you getting an error message in 3DS Max when you open an avatar file - external files missing? Could you post a screenshot of the error so we could be sure?

If that is the problem then it's visual only, and only inside of 3DS Max. Max can't find the textures that go on the avatar. You have to do a one time setup of Max to give Max the folders where you might be putting textures, so it knows where to find them. There have been many posts on the forums, and in a few FAQs, to cover this issue.

Why is the imvu sample room such a huge size? when i open up the file or merge it into another scene, the models are huge.

Does imvu use somekind of standarized sizing for all they make?

Yes... the IMVU files are generally huge, compared to standard units in Max. I've gotten in the habit of exporting/testing as soon as possible on things just to verify sizes, before you spend a lot of time on it. Resizing scenes can be problematic so it's best to find out sooner. If you're going to be merging things together, I'd suggest always trying out that merge as soon as possible to catch any gotchas.

If you start with a Max file provided by IMVU, you'll generally be ok. It's when you start merging files together - especially if you merge an IMVU sample file into a Max scene that you created from scratch - you'll get a warning during import that units don't match, do you want to convert, etc. Before you do anything else, I'd recommend exporting both meshes right after that import just to compare sizes in IMVU Smile

PostPosted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 1:17 am    Post subject: Testing hair physique with additional poses Reply with quote

Is it possible to use additional poses / animations when testing Hair Physique ? I am currently using the Female Weighting file.. which allows some basic poses to test the hair when I move the slider. But I want to move the head and body in many different poses to test the weights.

Should I be using any other file for this or any thoughts on how to get this done?

Thanks

When testing clothing and hair, I just add some poses right in the same max file. It already has some "twitchy" poses to gets fingers and such, but I add a few more keyframes with more exaggerated arms, spine, etc. If you know you'll do this a lot you could be smarter than me and add those poses first to an empty avatar file and then start all of your projects from that.

Hi Ner,

First of all, Im a great fan of your work, especially the really easy and helpful tuts. I wouldnt have come even this far if not for you.

I just didnt know how to add more stuff to the keyframes, but then again I have done some testing using the Basic Biped file. Merged the hairmesh I was working on to it and then weighted it using Physique. After that I got hold of a dance BIP file which has very exaggerated poses for me to test with.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction.

Cheers,
Miyqua
