Welcome to the IMVU Community Forums!

Talk to other IMVU members, get and give help, and enjoy the community!

Welcome and help new users as they explore IMVU's 3D world.

Stay on top of feature improvements, bug fixes, and general happenings within IMVU.

Be nice, polite and respectful. Rudeness and abuse have no place here.

Follow all forum rules. Be sure to read and understand IMVU's policies as those guidelines cover the forums as well.

IMVU staff monitors the forums, however, they do not always post. This is mainly a user-to-user forum to engage with each other.

At this time, we have our forums available in English as well as the following languages. Posts made in other languages may not get a response.

Meet the forum moderators

Our forum moderators are users like you and not employed by IMVU. They have volunteered their time, efforts, and most importantly their IMVU experience to help and guide the community. Moderators are not tied to a schedule so give them time to respond and be respectful even when they may be taking disciplinary action! If you disagree with a moderator decision, send us an email at communityteam@imvu.com and include all details including your avatar name. You can find moderators of forums listed on top of each forum section.

Forums versus Help Center

If you need help with a specific concern or issue with your IMVU account, please file a help ticket. Click on the "Help" link available on top of all web pages to either find a Knowledgebase article that may address your question or to request support by filing a help ticket.

Forum Rules

The list of rules below is intended to provide general guidelines; however, moderators and staff may take action in situations not specifically listed here based on the intent and context of the situation.

1. Treat everyone with respect: This includes all participants, moderators, and staff. Disagreeing is okay, being rude is not.

2. Be helpful: Be especially kind and helpful to new users. Be kind to those who help you.

3. Write clearly: Write clearly and legibly. All caps, netspeak and too many abbreviations will make posts hard to read.

4. No spamming: This includes posting of advertisements, posting the same message to multiple threads, abusive remarks, begging for credits/gifts, etc.

5. Advertising/Selling/Exchanges:

Only sites and services directly related to IMVU may be advertised – and only when the exchange is with IMVU's virtual currency or a barter of services.

All transactions are purely at the buyers' and sellers' personal risk. IMVU does not regulate, endorse or get involved in these activities.

Posts advertising the selling of Textures, Meshes, and other product assets are NOT permitted in the forums. This includes advertisement for giving away free textures.

Non-IMVU related advertising is not permitted. This includes any business or third-party sites. No personal ads. No ads for real-life goods being sold or exchanged.

No requests for charitable donations without IMVU's approval.

No reseller advertising using forum posts. Resellers may post in reseller forums only. Reseller related topics can be discussed in Miscellany forums only.

6. Off-site links: Any off-site link must meet our Terms of Service. Links to commercial sites, competitor sites, phishing or other malicious sites, sites containing non-GA content (as per our Virtual Goods Policy), hate sites, pornographic sites are prohibited.

7. Legal discussions: Legal discussions are not permitted in the forums.

8. References to illegal activities: No references to illegal activities including but not limited to pirated software, cracks, cheats, exploits and credit hacks.

9. Negative behavior: Such behavior diminishes the experience of the entire community and is not tolerated. This includes but may not be limited to the following:

Trolling: Posts made routinely with the intent of causing disruption or arguments.

Cheerleading: Rooting on a spammer or troll by posting to their threads.

Baiting: Content posted to simply insult or slander others to "bait" them into an argumentative response. Also includes argumentative responses in response to baits.

Naming in negative light: Includes posting complaints or negative information about other users, moderators, or staff, as well as linking to products in the virtual goods catalog with the intention of calling them out.

Posting private communications: Includes private messages, chat logs, real-life or personally identifying information, customer support responses or any other information that can identify a person or persons.

Conflicts: Do not use forums to handle personal issues. Use private messaging instead.

Proselytizing: Do not use forums to insult, bash or defame any religion or recruit others for a religion. Serious and non-offensive discussions on political, social and religious topics are allowed in off-topic forum.

Hateful content: Do not use forums to insult, bash or defame any specific group of individuals based on their race, nationality, religion, ethnicity, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.

Profanity: Do not use explicit or obscene language. Also, using an * or any other variation for any less than ALL letters of a filtered word counts as skirting the filter and is not allowed. Allow the forum filters to do their job.

Moderator edits: Do not remove edits made by forum moderators or re-post any rule-breaking content that may have been removed by them.

Making forum posts

1. Starting a new topic: Check if a thread already exists discussing the topic that interests you before starting a new one. Duplicate threads will be locked to keep the discussions focused and contained.

2. Post your topic in the most relevant section of the forums for the subject matter and only in one section. Check here for further guidance: "What Forum Should I Post In?". Topics may be moved to the correct forums if found to be in wrong sections.

3. Titles/Subject Lines: Use descriptive titles/subjects for your topics to make sure they are read and responded to.

Bad: Huh?
Better: My avatar is missing

Bad: Help!
Better: I'm being harassed!

4. Polls: Use polls in a positive and constructive manner. Biased polls or polls unrelated to the actual topics will be deleted.

5. Quoting: While quoting, include the exact information to avoid confusion. Use quoting to add clarity to your own post or reference someone's thoughts to make your point.

Do not change the context of a quote to mislead from the original message.

Do not use the quoting feature as your signature without the express permission of the person quoted.

Do not quote members that have been banned from the forums, and thus allow them to continue to take part in the forums while banned.

Do not overquote - 4 layers maximum.

6. Post Bumps: If a post has not received a response within 10 hours, you can bump it. However, if the post doesn't get a response after 3 bumps and you wish to keep the topic active, try adding additional information or clarifying your original post, as it may just not be clear to readers what you are asking or trying to convey.

7. Signatures, Avatars and Other Images

Any images posted in the forums must meet PSE guidelines listed in our Terms of Service.

Any images within posts may not exceed 500 X 500 pixels. Provide a link for larger images.

All images visible in the forums, including profile pictures, MUST be GA appropriate (refer to AP forum guidelines for exceptions for the AP forums only). Refer to IMVU's Virtual Goods Rating Policy for guidelines related to GA and AP.

Signatures and images may not contain any form of swearing, cursing, e-mail addresses, racism, rude gestures or any content against IMVU's Terms of Service.

Signatures in totality may be no larger than 500x150 pixels and may in addition have 4 regular sized lines of text. [Please note that if you have more than one image in your signature, the combination of images cannot take up more space than a 500x150 image would.]

Signatures also may only contain a language other than English if an English translation is also given in the signature.

"Offsite Linking" rules apply to signatures.

Disciplinary Actions

We take the Forum Rules seriously and enforce them through the following plan of action.

Friendly Reminders are issued to members who may appear to have violated a rule unintentionally. This is a light warning intended to be a courtesy reminder only.

Warnings about images and signatures: If any of your images or signatures are found to be breaking the forum rules, you will generally be given a 24-hour warning to change it. Posting images of UFI product or similarly inappropriate content to the forums, however, will result in an instant ban.

The forums generally work on a 3 strike policy: Two official warnings and then a ban. Severe violations may result in being banned instantly.

Some examples of violations which may result in an instant forum suspension or even a permanent ban:

Posting to the forums with an inappropriate avatar image or signature.
Posting images or links to pornography, extreme violence, or other graphic content
Extreme Trolling: Repeatedly cursing out other members, moderators, or IMVU staff; making threats
Extreme spamming
Promoting digital piracy

The standard forum suspension is two weeks. Repeated violations may result in lengthier bans, up to and including a permanent revocation of forum privileges.

Forum Suspension: This is a time based ban during which the user is barred from accessing the forums. Once that time lapses, the user will be reinstated the morning after the ban ends.

Permanent Ban: This type of a ban is typically the result of a history of forum violations and disruptive behavior. This can be instant if the violation is severe.

Forum suspensions and Permanent bans apply to the actual person, and not just the avatar name. Use of alternate accounts is not permitted if you are banned or suspended from the forums. Failure to comply with a temporary suspension by using an alternate account will cause your suspension time to be lengthened and may result in a permanent ban from the forums. If you are permanently banned and use an alternate account, that account may be disabled as a result of the continued disruption.

Do not discuss punishments – yours or anyone else's - in the forums.

If you feel that a warning or ban issued by a Moderator is unjustified, you may contact communityteam@imvu.com to request review and assistance from IMVU Staff. Please be sure to provide the full details of your warning or ban, your avatar name, and why you feel it was unjustified. IMVU Staff reserve the right to evaluate each incident on a case by case basis and take appropriate action deemed necessary.
