The first version of the Mac Alpha IMVU Client is now available for testing and feedback. If you own an Apple MacIntosh computer and want to check out the Mac IMVU client please go here, read and agree to the testing agreement and download to your Mac. You will need a Mac with OS X 10.5 or 10.6, Intel GMA 950 GPU and at least 2 GB of RAM. Testing and development of this Alpha version is ongoing and we would love your feedback related to performance and stability.

You will notice that the Mac version is slightly different from the Windows version and not all features are available. In upcoming versions, we will address issues reported by our Alpha customers as well as expand the service and add more features. The official release of the Mac Client will be made available to our users later this year. We are committed to providing the IMVU client to the entire Mac user community so they, too, can enjoy the complete IMVU experience.

Here is a list of features currently not available in this version of the Mac client but that will be included in upcoming releases:

• Music: You will not be able to play or hear any music from IMVU music mixes
• Audio: There will be no audio notifications, avatar triggers, etc.
• Voice: Voice chat is not available
• Games: Our recently released 2D games are not yet available in the Mac version
• Auto-updater: Unlike our windows Client, you will not see prompts at login to upgrade to the latest version. Instead, you will need to download it manually when we make new releases available. Please check here for the latest version: http://www.imvu.com/newimvu/mac.php

Please note that user-generated Flash content (typically connected to seat nodes) will not be available in our Mac client in the foreseeable future. We understand any inconvenience this may cause for users of such products as well as our creators who develop them. We may address this issue with an alternative solution in the long term and meanwhile thank you for your patience.

So how do you give us your feedback? Simply use the “Send Feedback” link provided within the IMVU Mac client to or leave comments in the forum thread here.

Best!

I don't use a Mac, for a variety of reasons.

However.

This is a significant and extremely welcome initiative by IMVU that potential customers have been crying out for ever since I can remember.

Well done to the IMVU engineering team for finally rolling out this version of IMVU.

I think it will please a lot of people.

Good work.

Finally!!!!! I've been using Mac's for about 6 years now, and I've always had to use my mother's computer, I also installed windows on my computer a while ago until it crashed, but anyway I haven't used IMVU in over 6 months due to no Mac version... I'm happy to finally know that I can use it again Smile

Will there be a Previewer release and such for developers?

Great! Hope you enjoy testing this early alpha version out on your Mac! We are working on adding a Create Mode to our 3D client for windows at this time and that will replace the previewer. Eventually it will be available for the Mac as well.

I had to download some complicated thing that allowed me to use imvu on my Mac. Thanks for releasing this. It's annoying to not have music or voice chat but other than that it works pretty fast.
Thanks again.

I didn't bother with *anything* to get it on my mac. I just haven't been used the client or developed in a long time... It's basically at the same place as where I left. And I don't use the music feature or voice really. It loads fine and everything for me so far.

Yes, IMVU's 3D client needs to be downloaded. Just to clarify Music and Voice Chat are not available in this early version but we are working on adding those in the later versions. Be sure to download the latest version whenever available and give us feedback.

SL does have a client for mac, I used to use it. You can just download it from their site. And that was like 2 years ago or something when I used SL on my mac.

Thank you !!! I am so happy they finally released a version for mac.
For the past year or so I've been trying complicated ways to use imvu on my mac, I was successful with vmware but it still was annoying to use.

I have to say that the client is friggin awesome, I have not crashed once, lagged or anything else where I would have on a pc (reason I bought a mac anyways) & I'm definately happy with it.

I hope that sound comes soon for it though Sad I have a lot of music and triggers that I'll miss for the time being, however I'll manage with my itunes till then.

THANK YOU IMVU!!!!

I've been using vmware to run imvu on my mac, and it has been slow and painful.

The mac client is fast. I like the black background for the text area a lot.

Take your time adding all the annoying noise and flash stuff into the mac client. Seriously, I won't miss it one bit. ^^

Thank you IMVU for *finally* releasing a Mac client. It is very much appreciated.

One thing though, it would be nice if the download page mentioned what the most recent version number is, so that we can tell if we should download an update or not.
