Looks like most of the songs listed reflect the character and would not necessarily be picked by the character but by someone who is relating the songs to what the character is or how they act which to me in some sense would be mixing or not being able to divide IC from OOC.
Would it not be better perhaps to say top ten songs that reflect the character or could be a theme song or perhaps a song that you as a player might think would fit the character or be on a TV show or movie the character was in. _________________ The strongest shall rule, The weak shall kneel! |

When pick songs I like I usually pick songs I can relate to, most people do the same thing so I would assume IF a character had an mp3 player they would also pick songs they relate to.
Vesper... it's not that they aren't dividing in and out of character... not sure where this is coming from... but anyway... it's supposed to be fun... remember?
Thinking about little details of the character and coming up with stuff you think they will like. You used to defend having fun on the forums. _________________

I have nothing against having fun and I know most of the people here can divide IC and OOC but I do not really see how this relates to role play in any way.. You can't really discuss this thread, It is not going to help anyone or help anyone to learn or understand something about role play.
If we are going to start asking what kind of music and movies our characters would like then why not add cars, pizza and bubble gum to the list.
This is a role play discussion forum and not a game, movie or music forum. _________________ The strongest shall rule, The weak shall kneel! |

We have a thread that discusses the trivial details such as food and such. It is Devil in the Details. As on the other thread where this was debated, I am going to say what one of the other people said. It's just a bit of fun, not something to be taken seriously.
Does it help anyone else's RP? Don't know, but as I have said and others have said in previous threads it's not always about rules and what helps, sometimes we have to remember there are things here that are just here to be fun.
And talking about what your RP character might favor is still talking about RP, it's just talking about little details. No one is forcing you to participate if you don't want to. _________________

This is an exercise in exploring the inner workings of our characters. It helps to fill them out and make them more realistic as people to try to think as they might even in regard to trivial things. Sometimes a character's tastes are drastically different from the player's. My top ten songs are not the same as my characters. _________________

Many people pick songs for self-reflection. Ever have a friend play a song and say "This is totally my theme!"
Dracula is narcissistic. The Frankenstein creature is self-loathing. This causes them to pick songs that induce either self-praise or self-reflection. With Percy (my original character) he likes Oingo Boingo which has nothing at all to do with reflecting who the character actually is. Notice how vague I was with Thomas's list? That's because the character, himself, is careless. He picks artists before he picks songs. _________________

I don't know what kind of music my characters listen to especially there is so much goddamm music in the world already and what I listen to is REALLY BAD and REALLY SPECIFIC to me... However, I do know that they would all have some Queen in their music libraries.
Except Nemo. Nemo probably only listens to opera and is most likely extremely picky about what composer and what singers he favors. That, and he doesn't even know what an mp3 player is. -ponders- I wonder if he even knows what a Victrola is... Nemo, do you abduct people and force them to sing live for you? Ahaha... ha...
-sips tea-
Adrian's music would be extremely flamboyant (and perhaps sometimes questionable). He'd be the kinda guy that flips his lid if you try to steal his mp3 player to listen to it. I bet he likes ABBA. Definitely Girls' Generation. _________________

My mom got me into it when I was a little younger-- about 12. I'm into alot of those good ol' classic movies... Like the Labyrinth.. Neverending Story.. The Lost Boys.. Pretty In Pink.. ~ They tend to have more character than some of the movies coming out today. |
