The usual streaming installer often gives this error.
There is an alternative installer that you can download to get around it.
It is a large file, because it includes all the installation files that it needs built into it, instead of linking to the internet to download them as it installs.

get it here:-
http://www.imvu.com/download.php

The one that ends with a zero is the one you want. Any others are experimentel prereleases. You can try them if you want to, but they may be more buggy than the official one.

Well, I'm having the same issues. I went and checked a bunch of older topics, so I've downloaded the Nettest and checked my firewalls, etc. etc. My Nettest comes back with an error on all tests, and I didn't see a solution for that, so I came here to check any recent topics.

I followed this advice, and IMVU is downloaded, but when I try to login, I get a message which says: "The IMVU service could not be reached. Please check your internet connection and try again. <urlopen error [Errno 10061] No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it>."

My internet connection is strong, so I'm not sure if I've missed a step in the directions? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :]

I updated to version 434 last evening after skipping the last update. I now cannot log into the chat version of the client. Crashes constantly.

I can log into my account on the web, hp, shopping etc, just not the chat portion.

I have the error message, and have notified customer support regarding this issue. However, I am not sure if I should be giving the info to this section.

Please note I have never had this issue before when updating.

When I logged on the client last night it wanted to do an update to 435.0 to fix blah blah etc. so it did it then just now the same update pops up, but looks like this...

...that is how it used to look when I was using the old version, so then I click update and install and it finishes and this has now popped up...

I just download 433.14 version and it's working fine!

The above still needs to be looked at though.

My problem is solved, IMVU is up and running.

The whole issue turned out to be a problem with my driver. Like I said, I did everything people advised, so for anyone else having issues, you might want to also check your driver or graphics card.

Thanks again for all the help, guys.

I highly doubt it was your driver, that's just IMVU's way of saying it's not their fault. It's happened to other people I know and they've had to downgrade.

I managed to do the update fine last night and then today it wants me to do the same update and did what I posted above. It's something corrupt on IMVU's part.

Well, I was having some computer trouble before and had to re-download my driver. IMVU has been an angel ever since -- and I've updated it. Works like a charm.
