Client Crashes Immediately After Login

This usually happens when there is a buggy product in your default outfit. Since the client previews your outfit in the Main Menu page, the client will immediately crash as it loads the buggy product. To solve this, you need to clear the cache manually.

Clearing Cache in Windows 7 & Vista

1. First enable viewing of hidden files, you can do this by accessing folder options from the Control Panel. Or press Start and search "Folder Options".
Start >> Control Panel >> Folder Options >> Click the "View" tab >> "Show hidden files and folders"

2. Go to the following directory one by one from your computer:

C:>Users>[Username]>AppData>Roaming>IMVU>HttpCache
C:>Users>[Username]>AppData>Roaming>IMVU>AssetCache


In each folder, select all files and delete them.

Clear 'Recent Chats' List

To clear out your 'recent chats' list you can block those users who appear, then unblock them.

Stickers Missing from Stickers Panel

Assuming this was not caused by a missing sticker being re-rated, it could be caused by updating your browser.

IMVU Versions

The IMVU Download History lists out all available version for downloading. These versions consists of two types : Current version and pre-releases.

Current Version

The current version is the latest IMVU Client whereby it has been chosen to be the most working, stable and able client. Current versions have a .00 decimal point placed as a suffix to the version.

Example: v123.00

Pre-Releases

Pre-releases are versions released after the current version which is meant for testing new features and bug fixes. Every additional feature or bug fixes are added into the next pre-release. When a final version is chosen it will be made available to the next Current Version. Pre releases ends with a number decimal point as a suffix to the version.

Example: v123.45

'Products in Scene' page Opens in Wrong Browser


Click on:

>Start
>Default Programs

On the window that opens, highlight the browser you wish to set it so that it is set to be the default program.

Setting your browser as default is not enough, setting the defaults as mentioned above overrides the Operating System defaults.

Q. How many Mixes can I create?
A. You can create as many as you wish. In addition, one song is not limited to just one Mix. You put that song in Mix 1, Mix 2, etc.

Q. Why can't I have a Mix with only two tracks?
A. You must have at least 3 tracks, with no more than 2 tracks per artist, album, or album compilation per Mix. These are requirements set by the music industry.

Q. I can't find my favorite artists, why aren't they on the list?
A. Currently, there are over one million songs in the catalog including EMI and bands from major independents labels. We will be importing music from Warner Music, Sony Music, and Universal soon.

Q. Can I put tracks from the Music Store on my Wishlist?

Forced to 'Run as Administrator' on Your Machine

Being forced to 'run as administrator' on your machine each time you want to run the client? Try this:

Locate IMVU, right click and open 'properties'. Click on 'shortcut', then 'advanced'. Make sure 'run as administrator' is *not* checked.

Not Able to Post in Pulse

Are you able to read Pulses, but unable to post anything yourself?

Check your cookies.

In Firefox it's >tools >options >privacy. Make sure that 'accept cookies from sites' is checked.


This could also be a browser issue. Try uninstalling your browser, then installing a clean copy.

Be sure to remember to save your bookmarks first, so you don't lose them.

How to Hide the 'Make Friends' Panel on your Landing Page (Pulse page)

1: Download the AdBlocker Plus extension for Chrome or Firefox
Chrome: http://adblockplus.org/en/chrome
Firefox: http://adblockplus.org/en/firefox

2: Once downloaded, find the options and add the filter:
fr.imvu.com###make-friends-panel
If that filter doesn't work, add "###make-friends-panel" as well.

3: Click OK and refresh the page!

Note:
-Does not work in Opera.

Other Users See Me in a Different Place than I See Myself

Log into the client and click on 'settings' in the upper right hand corner of the window. Click 'Advanced', then check 'Enable flash widgets on furniture'.

You may need to leave the room and come back to see the difference.

Here we go...

First of all, some simple things to check. Can you get to your Homepage? If your homepage loads in a normal amount of time and you can get to your buddies home page. Check at the "Top Part" of one of these pages for a "Blue Bar" message from IMVU. IMVU local area may have Internet problems or it is possible IMVU is having network problems. Most times you will see a message at the top on the "Blue Bar" if this is going on. When logging into the your Homepage on HTML notice the number of users online. Very low numbers of people currently online may indicate Network Problems. If the HTML Website seems normal, continue.

If you can login to the IMVU 3d Chat Client for short periods of time and then crash, notice the "Yellow Bar" in the client. Look there for messages about the site, too. Click the "Links" above to see the examples of these messages.

Next, make sure you do not have an Internet Security program such as an Anti-Virus Package or Firewall security program interfering with connecting to the IMVU site. This interfering program could be located in your computer or in the Internet connection equipment; such as located at a school, library, campus, work, etc. If portable, try your connection in a different location.

Find and Reset your Internet Connection Box(es) and Reset them. Routers, Modems, Etc. If you do not know how to do this, follow this link HERE I do this monthly. Come back here to complete the steps here when finished. Some who feel comfortable will disable their security for a few moments to test.

If you are trying to update IMVU and get the "Download Failed" error from the automatic-streaming-download, please take IMVU updates from IMVU Static Download Here This *may* happen to some when doing the recommended IMVU update at login time.

Some people have to add a Data Execution Prevention (DEP) exception to the Windows security feature for IMVU to run properly. This holds true for the MAC computers, too. More on adding the How-To-Add DEP Exception for IMVU can be found Here Once you have found the place for your operating system to add the DEP "Exception" you will Click on the Add button, and browse for this Folder and File:

Vista, Win7 +
C:/Users/[username]/AppDataRoaming/IMVUClient/IMVUQualityAgent.exe
Note: Forward slashes are used in the example

Windows XP
C:/Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/IMVUClient/IMVUQualityAgent.exe

Is it working now? If not, continue these steps to the bottom.

Uninstall IMVU Client. Go to your Windows "Control Panel" and under Add Remove Programs, Uninstall IMVU. You may also be able to uninstall on the Programs > All Programs > IMVU and Uninstall. Use either the Windows Uninstall or IMVU provided uninstall options.

Initial File Cleaning. If you know how to "Show Hidden Folders", do so before searching. You may also Google this for your Windows Version. Make sure you have Administrator Rights for the Windows Login account you hare using.

Now, 'Search' your Computer for the word IMVU with the Microsoft Search. If you are a creator, back up your files in the Documents > IMVU Projects Folder, if you have anything you want to keep. Delete everything you see after searching the keyword IMVU.

File and Registry "Clean-Up". Use a program similar to CCleaner. It is a free download (Google it). The Microsoft File Cleaner is better than nothing. The Registry Cleanup Tool in CCleaner is ok. Use a better one if you trust it. Now Reboot your computer. While it is restarting...

Find and Reset your Internet Connection Box(es) and Reset them, unless you did this at the very beginning. Reset Routers, Modems, Etc. If you do not know how to do this, follow this link HERE I do this monthly. Come back here to complete the steps here when finished.

Now go to this IMVU website and download the install program. Static Download for IMVU. Install it and follow the directions. Does it work? If not, you need to follow the rest of this post.

Please Note: If you have recently 'wiped', reloaded or formatted your computer (back to factory load) you will need to go to Microsoft website and take the Windows Updates.This is an Internet Explorer only site. Take *all* updates including optional ones (especially the update for Microsoft Visual C++) HERE:

After you have updated your Microsoft Windows, go to your computer manufacture's website (Dell, HP, Sony, Acer, etc.) and download to install *all* updated Hardware Driver Updates. I do this semi-annually. This step is also very important. If you do not know how to do this, seek professional help. After updating, install a fresh copy of IMVU Client. See, "Static Download for IMVU" above. More help with updating your computer's Windows and Hardware Drivers are Here

Did you skip any of the above steps?
What happens now?
What is the exact error?
When does the error happen?
What changed on your computer that may have caused problems.

If you have completed all of these steps and still have problems. Describe in detail what is happening. Short posts tend to get short answers. Many are here and can help. Answer the questions; given above, in your post and provide a small-screen shot of the error if you can.

My Friends' Rooms Have Disappeared

This can be caused by several things:

1. Have you or your friends just turned 18? Adults and minors cannot see each other's public rooms.

2. Have they not logged in, in awhile? Public Rooms are automatically removed if the owner has not logged in to the client for 60 days. These rooms can be re-opened manually once the owner logs back in.

3. Disabled or closed accounts will automatically have their Public Rooms removed. You may see them for a small while before they disappear.
