I never post in the forums but I guess ever since I've had at least one or two perfectly well design rooms stolen. I think its about time that IMVU enabled a hide room button to make it so no one can right click on the room and take whatever you have that's inside of it. Sadly people lack creative skills. I've been to lots of rooms that are dull and just imitated off another room. It takes skill, and patience to design an outstanding public room. I've been king of this for a number of reason and I only know one other person who can actually rival against me lol she helps me with my pre-algebra. And the reason she doesn't want to make her room public even though she is tempted to cause she want to show off her creative imagination, she doesn't want anyone to duplicate it.

The majority of the people I chat with support this idea since they tell me that my creative skill is why they continue to return to my public rooms over and over. I decided to make my room non-listed so it would be harder to find. But I want new comers to enter, without them right clicking on what I have in the room.

To me being able to create a fantastic room should be treated like a copy right. Why let someone enter and plagiarize my hard work or anyone else who can create equally good rooms if they are willing to take the time to? When I say create, I am not talking about creating content. I am talking about simply organizing things around and hunting down the best products to make your own virtual world or space.

So it is a very good suggestion that just like we're able to hide our outfits. We should be able to hide what's inside of our public rooms as well. But when I walk into someones room and its an exact replicate of mine? I cant do anything about it except flag it or leave it alone. I've never flagged anyone before for any reason. Eventually those fake versions of my room end up becoming abandoned and I've had people actually apologize to me for copying. I'm pissed and treat that as an insult when they take my ideas in the first place.

This is a feature that should of been introduced ages ago. When someone enters my room and their like "ooh where did you get this or that from?" It not only annoys me it also annoys those that support my creative work of putting it all together. I respect people that can create, or put something together on their own cause it takes me awhile to place items in the spots I want them to be. Its just the freedom I want to have with making a public room without being selective over who gets to come in and who doesn't without someone entering.

Lets make rooms hidden so that people can share while still keeping their unique individuality a secrete. People hide their outfits for a reason. And we all know that you can't hide anything that is against the TOS. So the reason why we have this feature to hide our outfit is to protect our individuality (if you have one). We don't want anyone stealing our look if its really good. And its also the reason why most don't take outfit pics and leave them viewable for all to see.

Being able to have this same option with public rooms would be great. Even though there are times when I enter a room, see something really cool and want it. But instead of taking it, I will hunt down an equally good product that's better.

However, I am just making a suggestion. Not here to fight or argue with anyone over it. If this suggestion is taken into consideration? I would definitely like this.

I would love to have that option. I don't mind telling people where I got certain things in my room, but on my old account I had people coming into my room and they would never talk until I told them that I booted people that didn't chat in my rms. Then they would say "oh I'm just here to see all the stuff in the room so I can make one just like this for my pulic room"

So I support this suggestion for that reason. To many people are to lazy to look around for their own ideas and I'm sick of having to change all my stuff around so people don't think I copied some one when they really copied mine.

I don't agree to this. If someone copies your room, it shouldn't be a bother because you still have your room. Everyone should be able to design their room, even if it is a copy of another room. It is your own space, create how you want it to look. You shouldn't be concerned about other rooms, just your room. You are not suddenly going to lose people coming to your chat room just because someone else has a room mimicking your room.

I also think this is as bad of a feature as the hide outfit and even worse for developers. People wearing our products and seeing our items in public rooms is one of the few ways a developer can get advertising within the client. Hiding outfits impairs a person's ability to make that impulse sale.

It also means people will be able to hide their UFI poses and furniture in plain sight. You won't even be able to flag them because the pid is hidden. Which makes it easily exploitable by room owners.

I'm sorry, this is going to sound harsh, I consider room decoration a form of art work. Anyone who knows me knows I love to decorate and anyone who has entered my rooms always admired the details and coordination. Part of the reason is because I want to support the developer's products I use.

So what if they want to rip off my whole room? Considering the fact I have been here for three years and often purchase entire lines of furniture to create a room, let them buy away. More profits for the developers I support. Which is also why my outfits are never hidden either. I understand disliking copycats, but unless those copycats are really trying to impersonate you, it's not that big of a deal.

I disagree with this suggestion.

For many of the same reasons Laele posted.

They can -try- to reproduce my room, but I am that darn good with the decorator tools, it will only be a pale comparison, even if they bought all the same stuff.

Just saying.

I don't mind this being a new feature, but I do have something to say about the hide outfits thing.

Even with it people can still see your outfit, the ID's for everything is int he URL. Many may not know it but I found it out when I actually looked at it and tested it a few times.

And a lot of devs hide their outfits so there's no real complaining there. Besides imitation may be the best form of flattery but I get really ticked when someone pesters me about my outfit or when they actually find out what it is and dress EXACTLY like me and follow me in the public rooms.

I like originality and sometimes people like to rip you off, I had someone just yesterday take a pic of MY avatar and use it as there avi pic and went around telling everyone I copied them and that's really them. It's annoying and even though I could prove it was me and they couldn't prove it was truly them it's still irritating when someone does that...

So yeah.. If someone wants to hide their room they should have just as much as a right to as people have the right to hide outfits. I mean doesn't matter if it's all in the URL regardless.

Nope...not a suggestion I'd care for. Blocking items/rooms just blocks sales to the developers who helped your room and your design abilities, become what they are.

Think of it this way....your rooms are getting copied for being fantastic.....the developer of the furnishings is also benefiting from those sales as well....thus becoming better known to the IMVU Community.

I'd really love this feature. If you can hide an outfit that you work hard to create, you should be able to hide a room design that chances are you worked even harder on.

I understand the arguement that it takes sales from developers, but that is the point of advertising. If someone asks me about a specific item I will usually hand them a link to the product, but I don't think they should be able to come into a room I've worked hard on and reproduce it on a whim.

Hate it for the simple reason as a developer i constantly look for new meshes to use this would seriously hinder that. I don't go randomly searching the catalogue trying out rooms and furniture as there is to many. I like what i see and i like to be able to get it's details quickly.

Yes, but the difference with what you are doing and what some are doing is that you seek to find information on a single product, others are copying entire rooms.

You could simply ask the room owner about that piece.

It is nearly impossible to reproduce a room just with the item list. I have decorated a lot of rooms in my nearly four years here. Which requires a great deal of time and fiddling.

I understand this even less than hiding outfits. And I consider myself an avid room decorator. Even if somebody bought every item in my room (which is often impossible since some of the things I own, the developers have left and hidden the items), they could not completely duplicate it without spending hours and hours, going between my room and the one they're decorating and learning all the tricks I have learned.

If they're willing to go to that kind of effort, more power to them. Really people, this is senseless paranoia.

In my personal opinion.. when you purchase things avaliable to everyone there are going to be similarities in various places. And some will even specifically go get this or that because they saw it where you were.

If people want their items to be unique there are two suggestions I could give for this. Make them custom or order them custom. Anything else is people's right to own them and the developer's right to have them advertised in your rooms and on your body.

Most people, in my experience, who have the opinion of wanting to hide these features also would not tell people where they purchased this or that.

I do fully understand the stress of being copied, especially when you worked hard to create something. But I'm afraid the best answer for not having it done really is not to put ones self out there.
