First it seems new products that were getting added didn't apear in the catalog, sortly after that, everyones catalog started showing up blank, with no uploaded products.
Now wouldn't it just suck if IMVU came back before they all left for the day and said:
"The store is back up, however only IMVU products are in the catalog. We lost our database for products, and dont have a backup, sorry, but you will have to upload all your products again"
Cheers! _________________ Did I.Q.'s drop sharply in here while I was away?
Oh man I'd throw a FIT!!!
*just dropped mayo on my keyboard.. YUCK!*
Anyway, a lot of people would not only try to sue IMVU, but win in the process. But, I'm sure they've probably got their stuff backed up somewhere. If I go to my page, I can still click the items I submitted recently and the pages load up just fine. _________________

I am sure they have a backup. LOL. I doubt that anything of this magnitude would happen, but I won't put it past them to do something else that hurts the developer and resellers when it's back up and running.
I'm hoping they are just fixing the product page bug.
And it sucks that we have no shoppers.
And it sucks that I can't finish my product when I was supposed to be off today.
And it sucks that this is going on in the middle of the day...
and it sucks that....
and it sucks that...
well you get he picture.
But if they're fixing something, then great. I just wish they'd had waited until later in the evening. _________________
Anyways, if the products are stored on a hard drive(Again, it's IMVU, so they might just be stored in some computer's RAM), then the harddrive itself would either have to be cracked, or manually erased.
Even if all their computers explode to pieces, the hard drives will probably be fine, because if you've ever popped open a computer, you'll find the harddrives are super-protected. Like, bullet proof. =/ Like, throw-at-a-wall-and-it-still-works protected.
Oops, trailed off.
Anyway, the catalogue being down won't bother me unless it's like for more than one day. _________________ I Punch Chickens.

actually i've seen this happen more then once (no backup of database) and I've also see major web servers do live script testing on their active server which has wiped out there databases.
though IMVU tries to convince us that all thier 'live' testing is done on a secondary server running the same scripts as the 'live' server (several imvu staff have said this), if this were so, problems like this one would not take place, as the problem would of been encountered on the test server, as the bugs that took place are major bugs, and not minor.
Just as a example:
A major software brokering company with 85+ thousand clients experienced a software crash that wiped out their database as well as their backup, it seemed the cron script (automatically running script) which they had programmed to do the backups caused the database to blank, and because the database was blank, their backup was blanked. Hense, no backup. They still had all the files in place but no idea of who owned what file, nor a working database of clients to link the files to. they closed their doors and never came back online.
Things like this do happen even though people "think" it might not, the possibility for such horrible events to happen is always there. _________________ Did I.Q.'s drop sharply in here while I was away?

no harddrive is bullet proof. expecially server hard drives. Windows Servers there is a two line command string you can give to the sever which can erase the full drive or (depending on your access level) the full domain.
on linux servers there is a single line command string that you can do the same thing with.
Nothing is bullet proof, and nothing is safe when it comes to computers, pc or mac. _________________ Did I.Q.'s drop sharply in here while I was away?

By "bullet proof", I just meant they're hard to crack open, physically.
I really don't know much about the coding and such(obviously).
Still, if there's a two-line command to wipe a harddrive, I think it's probably two-lines too many for IMVU to successfully write.
