Just call Autodesk and tell them that you want to downgrade from 2009 to max8 and they will supply you with the appropriate instructions.

You're welcome, Patshi!! Woo hoo - let the meshing begin! Or continue! And have fun!! Smile

Thanks a lot Ner!

Can anyone post more free plugins for both 3Ds Max and Blender for everyday use. It takes a long time to search them and also know what they are for.

Perhaps a pro developer could help with this?

Can you verify the plugin name? Maybe with a screenshot of the error from Max? And you confirm you have Max 8 and not Max 2008?

The plugin that installs with previewer should work great with Max 8. You'll have to manually choose the install folder when going through the Previewer setup wizard. The wizard will ask where Max is installed and it defaults to c:\3dsmax7. You'll have to browse to your install folder for Max 8.

Or, the FAQ has instructions for manually copying the 2 files that you'll need.

IMVU definitely needs to get their ball rolling and release pluins for 2009 and 2010 which was just released. Its a major drawack when companies rely on their end users to create the pipeline when the backbone of IMVUs take home relies on US creating models and content. While installing and maintaining 3 seperate 3DS installs is not a hard task, it shouldn't be necessary.

Props to nef, but the ONLY reason I have 2008 installed is for IMVU which is annoying since I've moved everything else to 2010, which kicks ass if anyone is wondering (but a GPU slammer).

I'm not complaining, only stating an obvious issue that we as coders and end users shouldn't have to battle with.

Did you do all of the tutorials and read tips etc. for 3ds exporting to IMVU standards? I'm a vet 3ds user and it took me 2 days to figure the damn workflow out Smile

Try Lynda.com if you learn better with video.

Its a great way to learn beginner to advanced stuff. I wish it was around when I was learning MAX 4 haha.

Anyway also check out the AREA (area.autodesk.com) for more training (video and text stuff)
