I have some animated icons so I guess I'm guilty. lol If you look in my catalog, you will see them for my skins. I just couldn't think of a better way to show what the actual product was. But I don't think the animation is too bad.
There are some in the catalog where the product is constantly shaking or blinking and I find it annoying! I realize catalog images are meant to get your attention, but geez... _________________

I think as long as the animated icon serves a purpose then it's fine. If it's to show different angles of a room or skin, thats fine. If it's to show how an object like hair or a sticker is animated that's fine. However the brightly flashing, wow, seizure quick snap icons for me I don't look at they give me a migraine and will cause me to shut down the entire page as a whole, not click the back button.
I think it's the fact that a lot of people are finding new ways and styles in which to animate things and of course they want to test it out somewhere. _________________

I am sick of getting the damn VIP ad everytime I log back in myself. It's irritating. I didn't want it yesterday, and I don't want it tomorrow.
I don't like them and often avoid them, the one that Chicka, showed and wiiing first one is fine, but the second one (sorry wiiing) drives me nuts, I find it very hard to see and ussally don't bother clicking on them. _________________

I also want to add if we police the catalog for animated icons do we also say no animated siggys or badges (like imvu CAB, and MOD ones are way animated)
or no animation allowed in any contest because these are all public places _________________ I'd Rather Be Hated For Who I Am Than Loved For Who I'm Not...
i have a few, I never really thought about it before. I do it to show the whole room sometimes or in a bundle to show all items.
mine are slower one. i would not freak out if there was a no animation rule on catalog tags, but I will say I think there are enough rules on IMVU
2 of the most animated ones I have ... if this is too much let me know
i certainly do not want to hurt anyone
I don't think there should be a rule but in my opinion your first one makes me feel like I can't see what I am looking at the second one isn't bad.
I understand people trying to show more with the animation but personally I feel like I see less, and feel frusterated, often deters me from clicking. _________________

The unfortunate thing is that if we want to put a stop to animated icons, will we see an influx in home pages being flagged for animations too?
I mean no disrespect to those of you who encounter serious problems with these animated icons due to issues beyond your control - like seizures. However, you have to have some idea that these things are a problem for you. The internet is full of animation, bright pictures and the like. If it is truly a significant issue, then perhaps you shouldn't be using a computer. If you are voicing the issue here, I would hope you are taking the time to voice it elsewhere because this sort of thing is all over the internet...
Believe me, those fast icons drive me bonkers as well, but I just ignore them. _________________

Okay.....please do NOT post any more animations in this thread....feel free to link to them by all means, but allow people the choice of seeing them or not
Tanya those are too fast & painful
Kimi.....did you read Ayla's post in the original thread? The one where she details how much she gains from this one site alone, let alone the rest of the net? & that's despite what it costs her to be here & are you really saying that because I get migraines from animations that're too bright & too fast I should not have/use a computer?????
It's been proven that just darkening them & slowing them down is enough.....why is this such a big deal for those of you who have them? _________________

Like I said, I meant no disrespect. Perhaps I just do not (literally) see things from your point of view. I don't like the fast animated icons - I think they are silly, a ton of extra work and just slow down the catalog. That being said, they do not bother me in a physical way.
The internet is full of animations on various websites. If someone is going to make mention of the animations on this site, I would hope that they are taking appropriate measure to voice their concerns on other websites as well - otherwise, people are just looking for something else to complain to IMVU about. I'm sorry, that's just how I feel.
If being at your computer is truly a serious issue for someone - one that could potentially cause them to have a life threatening seizure then yes... I'm saying perhaps they should not use one. If it just gives you a headache, then pop a tylenol and take a break from the computer or you can opt to shut off animations and even opt to not display certain images entirely.
My animated icons are quite slow in comparison to many of the icons stated to be within an okay range in this thread. If you would like to see them, you are free to browse my catalog and take a look at the animated icons for my skins or at my animated banner. I'm sure you will find both to be well within the tolerable animation range. So this isn't me trying to defend my catalog images. I'm simply making a generalized statement about the internet as a whole. _________________

Okie...
I am by no way suggesting that this issue be policed by imvu.
However, as a developer trying to make a profit, I presume... you may want to pay attention as I am in no way the only person who feels this way....
As a shopping wh*re... when I see a dev's cat. page loaded down with flashing icons... I close the page. I absolutely hate them.
The icon that Chicka showed, that is showing the products actual animation doesn't bother me at all. The first one wiing showed is the same.
But the rest of them... ACK!!! Sowwie folks, you won't get my credits on those items.
The icons give me a headache after a minute or so. Usually I just ignore them or click off the page with the offending flash. But if a dev uses nothing but flash... you are gonna loose my sales because I'm going to aviod your product pages like the plague. I abhor going to cat pages loaded down with flash.
Half the time I can't focus on what is in the pic anyway because they flash too fast.
I could so totally name a few very well known dev's that use these annoying flash icons, though they aren't in this thread, and I think I'll refrain.
btw... same goes for siggy's and banners. If ya irritate meh eyes... I'm not gonna clickie.
And Kimi... I work/shop here too... why should I have to 'pop a tylenol' when I didn't have a headacheprior to looking at the flashing icons I suppose if the dev's using these don't need my credits... *shrugs* more power to ya. Who knows... maybe your sales really spiked once you all started using them. I can only give you my opinion and relay that of the peeps I know.
Seems to me, that in an attempt to draw attention to a product, developers that use the annoying flash I'm talking about are only cutting themselves out of a portion of the market here. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

I fixed my post not to include the actual images
and I don't mean any disrespect either so before I say this please do not be offended
I have bad eye site and a shoulder injury sometimes being on IMVU hurts me so I sign off for a bit
I never thought of the animation hurting anyone, I will slow mine down but I do intend on continuing to animate them if I think it is necessary unless IMVU makes a new rule.
but please answer where you think it should end?
no animation on your banner or in product pages? no animation on the forums at all, no animation on badges or in stickers... how about no animation on IMVU?
IMHO IMVU has enough rules and regulations we do not need any more
Kimi Is correct there is flash all over the net in fact if you do not own your name there would be animation on IMVU even if they outlawed it for all of us because of the ads.
I understand looking out for others, protecting them from possible harm. but there is also alot to be said for personal freedom of expression.
as developers we are all artist and we all put 10% into each piece every pixel is thought out from the first texture to the tag and catalog page. I think enough censorship occurs already _________________ I'd Rather Be Hated For Who I Am Than Loved For Who I'm Not...

I didn't say "Hey, take tylenol before you get a headache". That would just be silly. But if being on IMVU is giving you a headache, that's the best advice I can give. There are many ways to stop animations entirely on your computer if it's really that big of a problem. I really think people should exhaust those options before adding something new to the list of things IMVU wants US to police.
I'm all for awareness and I wouldn't want to create a catalog that caused a problem for anyone. That being said, there is a time where it is up to the individual to know what is an issue for them and either find a way to shut it off, ignore it or not use the internet entirely. If you have seizures, chances are you have an idea some of the things that set them off or cause you some sort of problem.
I'd much rather see us raise awareness and ask people nicely that they adhere to a certain speed (how about icon change every 1.25 seconds at maximum? Most of the ones y'all are questioning are .10-.50). Do we really need something else added to Peer Review? lol And do we really need to see more developers flagged because someone thinks their icon might be too flashy? _________________
