There is a feature that was planned, but was not scheduled to be worked on for awhile. I thought it was awesome, and I wanted to implement it a certain way, so I've done it in my free time to get it out earlier.
It's called "user badges", and the idea is to be able to add new badge types (like the VIP and access pass icons that appear next to your name in the forums), and provide a cool way to show them off, similiar to the 'stamp book' stickers that some users have created.
EDIT: If you want to turn the widgets off for yourself, just visit this page and set yourself back into the 'Never' branch.
I would like some testing of the feature, please.
The basics: In places where an avatar picture appears on the site, instead an 'avatar widget' appears, which has the name, avpic, and 'badges area' for a user. Users can arrange their badges for display in the badges area however they like (and choose not to display some badges just by not putting them in the display area).
Visit your account settings page to arrange your badges. You do it by dragging and dropping your badges in the 'badges grid' on your avatar widget.
Also, whenever you see an avatar widget, you can click the little icon in the upper left hand corner of it to get a popup with information on that user. Right now, you just see a little bit of info and can send them a message. In the future we can add more stuff to this popup.
Also, you can mouse over badges you see to get some information on them in a popup.
Users will be able to create badges, but they'll be very expensive. This is to make the bar high so that making a badge is not something done frivolously. The cost will be 100,000 credits per grid tile. So, if for some reason you wanted to make a badge that is two tiles wide and 3 tiles high, that would cost you 600,000 credits. Once you've created a badge, you can give it to whomever you want for whatever reason you want. The policy of 'who gets the badge' is completely decided by you.
Unfortunately, I didn't have time today before code freeze to get the 'create badge' pages in place, so you'll have to test with just IMVU badges for the weekend.
Finally:
On the 'choose experiment' page, there are 3 options for how you see badges: 'Never' (the default), 'Big', and 'MixedBigAndLittle'. Some places where avpics currently appear, we show a small avpic. I coded the avatar widget so that it can appear either 'big' or 'small'. The small version only has the top half of your badges visible.
I changed a lot of places on the site to show an avatar widget where previously the avpic was shown. Pretty much, whereever the avpic was big, I show a big avatar widget, and whereever it was small, I show a small one.
The problem is, I personally prefer the big avatar widget, because it shows off the full badge area. So, I made two different experiment branches, 'Big' and 'MixedBigAndLittle'. These are confusing, misleading names, I know, but I can't change them because we don't like to do code changes on Friday and we're in code freeze now.
So: Sometimes, we *have* to show small avatar widgets, there's no way around it, there's just not enough space for a big one. But, sometimes, when we were showing small avpics, it might be ok to show a big one. If you choose the 'MixedBigAndLittle' branch, you will see small avatar widgets if there was a small avpic there. But if you choose 'Big' branch, you will see a big avatar widget in some places where there was previously a small avpic (the most obvious is the messages panel on the homepage).
So, that's a lot of leadup to say this: I recommend you choose 'Big', but you can toggle between the two to see what you like better.
Anyway, for testing: Please exercise the badges. Let me know if the drag and drop arranging doesn't work for you. Let me know if the user popup (when you click the icon in the upper left) doesn't work on some pages. Let me know if the avatar widgets are breaking page layout anywhere. And, let me know on which pages you see avpics instead of avatar widgets... All the places avpics are shown have to be changed over manually to make sure the page still lays out correctly.[/b] _________________ Don't believe anything I say!

awww Dusty, all that work over a feature that is not necessary to fixing all the glitches on here.
What are the users asking for now Dusty?
That is where the main emphasis should be.
Sorry, I know you worked hard. _________________

This looks interesting, but I'm not as excited as I would be if I didn't have to deal with all of the buggy things released recently.
It's cool - really cool, and it's cool you used your free time to make it, but I have no urge to even look into it, as I have a faulty peer review we're not getting answers about to deal with...new fees for submitting we were not told about...TOS and VGP changes we are not notified of, amound various other glitches in my experience here
question tho -- if I choose to be in it, and it changes my avi pic -- can i choose to take it away again later? _________________ Catalog <3 aka Dulaney Mubble

options to turn it off on certain pages like our other badges
user created badges for us to upload in the size of the grid of course <--- nevermind i see this is being considered.. though i think 100,000 is a little steep. what about cutting that in half? that's not so unreasonable i think. it's still obtainable but not common.
Problems:
removes developer report link on home page. _________________
