Name Changes and Buying Names:

If you want to change the name on your present account, that requires a name change token purchase.

If you want to get rid of the Guest from in front of your name, that requires a
separate purchase.


If you want the name of an inactive account, and you want to change the name of your present account to that name, that requires you to notify staff to close that account. You must purchase the name change token first.

Staff will not 'hold' names. It is first come, first serve. If you see a name you want, buy it now before someone else does.

The account must have been inactive for at least 12 months before you can buy it.

The account name must not have been involved with fraud; those names are gone for good to avoid any future confusion.

If the last log in date on the account says "00/00/00" it has been inactive long enough to ask for.

Staff asks that you use the help ticket system to contact them for this. Click on 'help' in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Some things you should know first about “name change” tokens:

1. A name change is only allowed if the following conditions are met:
- You have already purchased an avatar name.
- The new avatar name you want does not already exist.
- You have not had a name change in the past 7 days.

2. Name change tokens can only be purchased using “real” currency (ie: credit card, PayPal, check, money order, etc) They cannot be purchased with credits.

3. You may purchase as many tokens as you wish for your account. Each token can be used only once to make a name change. Tokens that are not used are kept in reserve in your account.

4. If you are making a name change, be careful when you type in your new name! The change is permanent and cannot be undone (except by another name change).


To buy a name change token, you may do one of the following:

* Go to the "Buy Credits" page (click on the Buy Credits link in the menu at the top of any IMVU web page), pick a payment method, and scroll down to find the product entitled “name change tokens”

* Go to the “Change Avatar Name” page from the Account page (click on the “Account” link in the menu at the top of any IMVU web page after you have logged in), and if the account does not own a name change token, a link to buy the product will appear:



To see the number of name change tokens you have:

- Go to your Account page
- In the Account Tools section in the right hand side, click Change Avatar Name
- There, you can see the number of name change tokens you have


To change your avatar name using a “name change token”:

- Go to your Account page
- In the Account Tools section in the right hand side, click Change Avatar Name
- If your account has one or more name change tokens, you will get a form asking you to enter your password and the new desired avatar name. Fill in the form. Click “Continue” to submit, and if the name change is successful, you will be redirected to a confirmation page. If the name change is not successful, you will see an error message telling you why the change did not work.


To view the name change history of your account:

- Go to your Account page
- In the Account History section, click on “View Name Change History”


To see the name change history of another user:

- Go to the user’s homepage
- Click on the “Name Change Log” link in the top right corner


Regarding which names are available via NCT and which can only be purchased through the Premium Name sale:

IMVU retains the ability to reclaim any unused names and add them to the premium name sale

IMVU can reclaim any user names that meet the following characteristics:
- No login in 12 months
- Has not purchased their name (Guest_ account)
- Has not made any purchases through the IMVU store

A user disabled account may also be added if it meets the following:
- No login in 12 months
- Has not purchased their name (Guest_ account)

Users may also ask for a name that is in use (or user disabled) if it meets the above criteria. For the user to get that name, they must:
- User must own their name
- Verify that the name is not on the front page of the premium name sale list and does not appear as a premium name in the search box
- Purchase a name change token
- Contact support and let support know the name they wish to buy using their name change token

As long as the user contacts IMVU and the name is not present on the premium name sale front page or in the premium name search when they make contact, that user shall be entitled to receive the name which they request.


IMVU does not hold names. They are first come, first serve. If you are told by Customer Service that the desired name will be available on a specific date, and you do not buy it then (on that date), please be aware that the name may later be added to the Premium Name sale. ~ Min
