Having issues with connectivity with IMVU ? this includes

    Not being able to connect
Not being able to upload snapshots (in most cases)
any other connection based feature i may not be mentioning

Firstly, do you need to follow this solution, a great little tool will help you find this out

IMVU Net-test

Step 1 Download & Run Extractor, Extract files to "C:/Nettest" (or any folder you see fit)

Step 2 Navigate to that folder

Step 3 Run "Nettest.exe" and click ok, the test at this point should take no more than 30 seconds or so if your ports are configured correctly if not however it can take anything up to 2 minutes

Step 4 If your results all success then great, you should be all connected and whizzy, and if your issues persists its certainly not to do with connectivity, well least not on your end (note 2nd last result always fails it is bugged from what we know)

Software Firewalls

Most Software Firewalls allow you to select the executable(IMVU) and add it to whats called an exception list the following steps detail what must be done to add IMVU to the windows firewall it will roughly be the same process for any software firewall, however if you are not sure/confident ask the person who manages your computer to do so, or ask me and i will try my best to aide you

Ok to add imvu to the exception list you need to go to you control panel and open "windows firewall"

Step 1 Click the "Exceptions" Tab

Step 2 Click the "Add program" Button

    Step 3 Click "Browse"

Step 4 Navigate to your IMVU installation path (Default - C:\Program Files\IMVU)

    Step 5 Click "IMVUClient.exe"

    Step 6 Click "Open"

    Step 7 Click "Ok"

Step 8 Click "Ok" (Again on the parent window)

Step 9 Perform a Nettest again to confirm it has all worked (see above)

Hardware Firewalls/Advanced users

In the past users have asked me and others what the ports are for IMVU however we have never known, i was sick of this .. so i did some sniffing to find out the ports, looks like they don't make it public news due to the massive range of ports IMVU uses, if your reading this far i will assume you know how to configure your router and as there are so many i will simply cut to the chase and let you know the port range...

    TCP 4100-4800

IMVU Also uses port 80 but you wouldn't be reading this post if you didn't have that port open anyway (for web protocol)

Well i hope this will help a few of you scratching your heads with connectivity issues, if you need any additional help feel free to ask any one of the bug breakers (people with the lil smashy symbols on the avatar pic)

Check your firewall and anti-virus to make sure they are set to allow imvuclient.exe

What kind are you using? Norton, etc.

Really important question about ports...

Does IMVU try to open any inbound ports. This is important because if it doesn't ever then it means all chat activity is being relayed via IMVUs servers, which is quite possible but very inefficient. It looks like this may be the case. If it does try to create inbounds then its important that we know what they are.

IMVU does not listen for inbound traffic by listening on sockets. (it's not as inefficient as it sounds Smile)

I get this same result. Also, I cannot acces anything regarding IMVU (the site will not come up) at all through Firefox. I get this error:

Usefull to know as it means I'll rarely have to worry about my current router's settings. I might have to set up the firewall in future but at present given my requirements its more secure with the firewall off.

All too often programs that are meant to use sockets silently fall back to an inferior mode when behind a router giving no clue as to what adjustments are needed.

It looks like this problem may be limited to Firefox. We're still not sure how people get in this state, but to get out you need to delete your IMVU cookies.
In Firefox:
go to Tools->Options
Click on the Privacy tab
Click on "Show Cookies"
Scroll down and find the imvu.com cookie
Select it and click the "Remove Cookies" button at the bottom of the screen.
Close and re-open Firefox. If that doesn't fix the problem, please let us know.

For users of other browsers who are experiencing the "seriously malformed uri" error, refer to your browser's help documentation in order to remove the imvu.com cookie.

Thanks,
Rosco
