To delete (hide) items you no longer want, seasonal items that you won't use for awhile, products that are crashing your client, etc.:
Note: The items are not really deleted, just hidden and can be un-hidden.
For the New Inventory List:
Use this link:
http://www.imvu.com/catalog/web_inventory.php
To Delete (hide) Items:
Click 'hide' to remove it from your chat client, under the product icon. The box background will turn gray. In the client you will not see it in your Inventory list.
To Undelete (show) Items:
Click 'show' to make it reappear, under the product icon. The box background will turn white.
EDIT - Old Inventory List no longer Available!
For the Old Inventory List:
Use this link:
http://www.imvu.com/catalog/web_myinventory.php?loaded=true
You may have to adjust the tabs at the top to see the folders you need.
To Delete (hide) Items:
Check the box for 'delete' next to the item you wish to hide, then click 'Delete selected items' at the bottom of the page. In the client you will not see it in your Inventory list.
To Undelete (show) Items:
Click 'View deleted items' at the bottom of the page, then click on 'undelete' next to the products you wish to see again.

Note: This only works with the older client versions, when the client and buddy list were separate windows.
If your language changes on your chat to something other than English, click with your cursor in the chat window then type in *use 2224850.

Credits
Credits are paid for with real money. They are what you use to buy gifts for other users, or to give as gifts to other users. You can also buy stuff for yourself. You can do that here: http://www.imvu.com/store/store_us.php
Promo Credits (also called promos, predits, or freedits), are free and can only be used to buy stuff for yourself. This is what you get when you first open an account. These cannot be given away.
When shopping in the catalog for yourself, it will take promo credits first and then if you don't have enough it will take your real credits.
You can become a Developer.
Offer services on the Graphics Arts forum in exchange for real credits or Gifts.
Purchase a PrePaid Card.
There are contests you can join on the User Contests forum. They can award either real credits or gifts.
If you are a VIP you can sometimes find contests here.
You can earn more credits here and here.

Where to Report Specific Issues with the Most Recent Client Update
If you have a problem that occurred with the last update, please report it here. Look in the Announcements at the top to find the thread for the corresponding update. Usually it is at the very top and will look something like "Announcement: Release (number here) and prereleases (number here)". |

Problems Re-sizing Chat Window
Do you use WindowBlinds/a skin? You can either shut that off, or:
1. Open the WindowBlinds Configuration.
2. Select "Change the look of a particular application".
3. Find the "IMVUClient application" in the IMVU folder, which can be found in your Program Files folder.
4. Check off "Ignore this application and do not skin it". |

How to Re-install the Chat Client/'Low Memory' Messages/Adding RAM
**If you cannot see a folder, go to the Folder Options and choose View, Show Hidden Files.
NOTE: this will *not* delete your Account, nor dump your inventory, credits, etc.
>Uninstall
>My Computer
>C Drive
>Documents and Settings***If you are running Vista, see below
>Open User that has IMVU
>Application Data
>IMVU
>Delete entire IMVU Application Folder
>Start
>Search
>All Files and Folders
>Type in IMVU
>Search
>Delete everything it will let you (don't forget the desktop icon)
>Re-install
NOTE: only version 381.6 and above has text chat.
NOTE: Music Store items will not work in pre-404 versions, and may not work properly in pre-407 versions. IMVU no longer supports 403 or earlier versions.
Note: AP ChatNow only works in 407.22 and above.
Note: Some Music Store music may not work in versions earlier than 438.
Note: Create Mode in all versions of the 3D Chat client have been disabled except for pre-release 467.22 and above.
You do not have to update if given a choice, you can click 'Later'. If you are asked if you wish to update, rather than it being mandatory, they want you to test that version and it will most likely be buggy. If you choose to be a test subject, there will be a corresponding thread on the IMVU News, Announcements and Release Notes forum for you to post the results.
***In you're running Vista instead of XP, how to locate the folder will be different:
>Make sure that Show Hidden Files is selected
> My Computer
> "C" drive
> Users
> Open User that has IMVU
> AppData
> Roaming
> IMVU
> Go back to instructions above where it says IMVU
For those with performance problems:
| Kevin wrote: | * Graphics mode
Under the Settings menu there are three options: Accelerated graphics (Direct3D), Accelerated graphics (OpenGL), and Standard graphics. If your computer has a good video card, one of the first two options will likely be much, much faster than the others, and will probably look better too. Try changing between the settings and see if it has an impact on your performance. Sometimes if the client crashes (which unfortunately can happen... ) your graphics mode will get set back to Standard automatically to prevent the client from being crashed by graphics errors. Standard is almost always slower than OpenGL or Direct3D, so this could cause IMVU to begin running slower than usual.
* Target frame rate
Under the Settings menu is a menu option that controls the Target frame rate. If this is set to a lower frame rate like 10 or 15 FPS, the client will run less smoothly but use less CPU power and graphics processing power. If you find that the client is consuming too much of your computer's processing power, try adjusting the target frame rate.
* Render 3D window when in background
Under the Settings menu there's an option labelled Render 3D window when in background. If this option is enabled, the client will likely use more of your CPU power when it is running in the background or when you're chatting with multiple people at once. Try turning it off if you feel that IMVU is running too slowly (though this means that 3D windows will stop animating when they aren't active!)
In any case, when you are reporting performance issues it really helps for us to know:
What kind of processor you have
How much RAM you have
What kind of video card you have
You can easily get this information by running the microsoft 'DxDiag' application by going to Start->Run, typing in 'dxdiag' and clicking OK. |
To clear IMVU's cache:
While logged in to chat (close the chat window, but don't exit/sign out):
>Help
>Tools
>Clear IMVU cache
Note: This will make your avi appear in default mode.
To Check Your Default Internet Connection Setting:
From your desktop, go to:
> START
> CONTROL PANEL
> INTERNET OPTIONS
> CONNECTIONS (tab)
> LAN SETTINGS (button)
Make sure all of the boxes are un-checked.
To defrag:
>Start
>All Programs
>Accessories
>System Tools
>Defrag
You can also do a Disk Cleanup at the same place.
Sometimes Adding Memory Will Help 'Low Virtual Memory' Msg:
Usually a shutdown and restart will resolve this problem.
When all of your computer's physical memory (RAM) is in use, Windows will try to create virtual memory by grabbing a chunk of hard drive space and treating it like real memory. Your software can't tell the difference between real and virtual memory, but you will because virtual memory is much slower, because of the hard drive activity it requires.
If you run into the 'low virtual memory' message, then you have used the maximum amount of real + virtual memory that is supported on your system. Sometimes programs will not return their working memory space to the operating system when they're done using it. Other programs that need a large amount of memory to run may fail because Windows cannot "see" the available memory.
If you still see the "Your system is low on virtual memory" message after a shutdown then make sure your computer is configured to allow Windows to automatically manage the virtual memory. In Windows XP, follow these steps:
>Start
>Control Panel
>Performance and Maintenance<---yours may skip straight to System
>System
>Advanced tab
>Under Performance, click Settings
>Advanced tab
>Under Virtual memory, click Change
>Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. This is usually your C drive.
>Click "System managed size"
>Set
>Click OK three times<---don't forget to apply
>Restart your computer
If that doesn't solve the problem, you can try these:
Eliminate Non-Essential Programs
>Start
>All Programs
>Accessories
>System Tools
>Disk Cleanup
You can also do a Defrag at the same place.
Add RAM to Your System
If your PC is more than three years old, chances are it's close to being obsolete -- adding RAM to an older computer is the most effective thing you can do to upgrade it. The more RAM you have, the better your computer will perform.
To see how much memory you have installed (for Windows XP):
>Click Start
>Control Panel
>Performance and Maintenance
>System
On the System Properties window, you'll see the type and speed of your processor (CPU) and the amount of RAM. Windows always reports that you have slightly less memory than you actually have. For example, if Windows reports 496 MB of RAM, you actually have 512 MB (Memory will always be installed in 64 MB increments).

Phantom 'Unread Messages' in Forum PM Box
| Jackalope wrote: | How to get rid of a phantom "1 unread message" in your forum PMs in 8 easy steps:
1. Message yourself.
2. Right-click your outbox and open it in a new window/tab.
3. click your message in this new outbox window/tab (do NOT click the one in your inbox - yet).
4. Hit "edit" and edit a bit of your text, but don't hit "submit" yet.
5. Now go back to the original window with your inbox, and open the PM from yourself. You can now either close that window, or go back to the forum. But don't delete the message yet.
6. Go back to the other window, where your edited PM is waiting to be submitted and hit submit.
7. stay in the same window and open the message from yourself in your inbox again (you will see that it's marked as unread again).
8. Delete the message.
Voilá, the phantom message notification should be gone now.
If you have more than one phantom message notification, just repeat the steps. |

Having Trouble with Group Invites?
Special thanks to SensuousKitty for posting this bit of helpful info:
| SensuousKitty wrote: | | In going through every possible remedy and making ourselves crazy in the process, we found one simple anomaly being that my friend had IMVUINC on their block list. You see he had grown tired of receiving all the spam about credit sales and bundle offers, so he simply blocked them. Lo and behold, he unblocked them, I tried re-inviting and bang he got the invite successfully and was able to successfully join the group. So it would seem that group invites are actually sent through IMVUINC. I recommend that you all make sure that you have that account unblocked and try asking for invites again. As well if you are having issues inviting people ask them to ensure that IMVUINC is unblocked and try reissuing the invite. Hopefully this resolves alot of peoples' issues regarding group invites, if not I wish you all the best with your help tickets. ~Kitty~ |

Problems Moving Badges
If you are having problems moving your badges and are using Internet Explorer, try using the compatibility mode button, to the right of the address bar. It looks like a torn piece of paper.
For IE9:
> Right click the top bar of your Internet Explorer 9 window and click "Command Bar".
> When the new bar pops up, click on "Tools" then click on "Compatibility View Settings".
> When the Compatibility View Settings pops up, you should see a list of sites for Compatibility View. Type in the sites you want to add for Compatibility View and click Add to add them to the list.
