The Avatar and Signature Tutorial
Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood moderators

Index

There seems to be quite some confusion about signatures and avatars. Some people have a problem with not finding how/where to add/change them. Some people seem confused over what signatures and avatars may show and how big they are allowed be. Some people are just over-all confused. Hopefully this tutorial will straighten out all your questionmarks regarding avatar and signatures. Enjoy!

Avatar and Signature Sizes

Avatar Images need to be 160x220

Signature Banners must be no larger than 500x150

If you are using more than one image, then collectively they must not exceed the space a 500x150 image would.

All images MUST be General Audience appropriate. Absolutely no AP or UFI material is allowed and will incur a forum ban until fixed.

Check out this link
for more information about what GA, AP and UFI means.

Where to remote host your images for your siggy.

In order for any image beyond your avatar to appear in the forums you are going to have to upload and store that image someplace on the internet. Luckily there are several image hosting services that do this for free.

Free images hosting sites.

Where do I add my avatar/signature to the forums?

Scroll Down to the bottom of the forums and click the ‘Profile’ link.

...or just use this link.

When the page is loaded, here is where you add your signature.

Before you're done, check that you have the right options set. What is shown below is the standard, so it should look like this from the beginning.

Avatar images can no longer be added using the forum profile page. Add them on the account settings page.

Size allowed is 160x220pixels and up to 200kb. Uploader accepts many formats including jpg, tiff, png and gif.

PNGs sometimes will not upload if you are using IE. Try another browser if you have a problem.

However, please ignore the signature uploader on the Account Settings page. It does not recognize BBCode at the best of times -- and sometimes just doesn't work at all.
