Regarding negatively posting about fellow IMVU users:
Jackalope wrote:
Mayu22 wrote:
Do NOT post complaints about other members and/or their behavior on the
forums. The correct thing to do would be to contact IMVU Staff or a
Moderator with your complaint. If you still feel you MUST post a negative
post about another user, you must omit any names, links, or images that may
portray that person's name. Using "*********" or blurring the text until it
is unreadable is ok in the case of text and images. Threads such as this
often lead to flaming and unfair lynch mobbing of members, which is why we
require that names must be omitted in association with negative posts.

This includes post such as "PM me the name" or "I will PM you the name" or plain out asking for the name, which eventually leads to the same results.

Regarding posting for banned users:
Jackalope wrote:
It is also against the rules, to forward PM's by banned users into a thread. There is a reason for why that person is not allowed to post. Forwarding their posts diverts that restriction. This is not acceptable, and will not be tollerated.

Regarding the 100-page rule:
Lola wrote:
After much discussion in the moderator forum. We have decided that all threads that go beyond 100 pages will now be locked.

BUT. Keep reading don't get mad.

You can re-make the same forum. After it is locked, the moderator that locked it will notify the original poster and let them know it has exceeded it's allotted pages and that they may re-make the post and start fresh. After the new one has been started, the old post will be deleted.

This is being done to keep the spamming down and to also keep the bandwidth on this site down. The forums bog down the entire site and staff has asked us to step in and try to control it a bit. This is our solution to keep you happy and staff happy.

Okay contests:

Contests may run over 100 pages if and only if they have an ending date and are an actual contest.

Shops:

If you have a shop, and used alot of codes for your first post, please save those codes as a notepad file. That way you can use them again, when your thread reaches 100 pages, and you have to start a new one. If you didn't do so, you can ask a mod, to pull the codes for you.

Regarding the infamous "known spammer" rule:
Lalikat wrote:
Effective immediately aiding and abeting a known spammer will result in an immediate 3 month ban.

This includes:

- reposting a message from the spammer
- quoting the spammer
- posting on the spammer message.

This rule became effective 9/25/07 at 7:17 pm PST.

See discussion here.

How NOT to get posts locked 101
Keef wrote:
It's actually quite simple...

Do not go ‘there’ . By ‘there’ I am referring to bringing someone's person into the discussion.

I hate your idea and you’re stupid for thinking it. (having a differing opinion never makes anyone stupid, ones who make sweeping judgments like this however…)

People like you just don’t get it. (yeah umm right)

This is the stupidest idea ever!!! (if its soooo stupid, care to explain why instead of just calling it a name?)

Example OP: I LOVE this band!!!!!!

OMG they suck!!! Anyone who listens to them is a LOOSER!

Can we say GAyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

OMG I sooo hate them, I find their beats repetitive and their lyrics just too plain, ughhhhhh.

If I see another of these stupid fans I’m gonna puke!

All these disagree, but only one is an actual discussion and only that one is within the rules. The rest are insulting, demeaning, and just outright rude.

If you are incapable of holding a discussion without taking a personal gibe at someone, then walk away and walk away now; the IMVU forums are not the place for you.

If you wish to carry on in respectful discussion, you can scream, you can argue, you can burn down the village for all we care, but you CAN’T make it personal.

Just a little FYI...

New Mods were brought in because OT did not want to play by the rules and it was too much work for the few we had. OT was going to just be deleted because of the rude behavior. I think instead of whining about it you all should be Kissing your new Mods' bootys for working their butts off and volunteering to try and save this forum from its self destructive behavior. It's not personal; the specific job handed to them by IMVU was to clean up this mess.

Mods do not get paid, they do not get perks, they do not get preferential treatment. They merely love IMVU and its users enough to volunteer some hours to keep the forums within the rules set out by IMVU. The fact that some wish to spit on that gift just comes off as a feeble attempt of misdirecting folks from what the real problems in OT are.

If this forum doesn’t get its collective act together, it will be gone, simple as that. (And FYI OT posting will not be allowed in any of the other forums.) IMVU doesn’t need a bunch of folks running amok, ignoring the rules, and spitting on its volunteers.

Now it's time to decide... Do you want OT or don’t you? Your behavior will be your vote.

OT Special: "What Goes Where?" - Eat while hot!
Jackalope wrote:
Lately there have been questions about why we move certain threads. As usual it is a question of actually enforcing what we should rather than changing the rules in the blink of an eye. To get a clearer explanation on where your threads should go, please check this link.

This includes:

Questions or discussions about Credits, Predits and Dev Tokens/Reselling Credits
Selling accounts is prohibited by the IMVU Terms of Service
Anything Developer Related (discussions)
3D/texturing/stickers help
Suggestions/Bugs/Help
Contests
Homepage help (codes/editing help etc)
Product reviews/Requests (including stickers)
Avatar modelling
IMVU related magazines
"find me this & that on IMVU"
Avi art shops, avi pics/sigs/layouts/backgrounds shops and requests
Anything else that's IMVU related and doesn't fit elsewhere
Anything VIP related
2D Games discussion

Anything that has to do with IMVU should not be posted in the OT and will be moved. There is no reason to not post these things in the correct forum. No forum is anyone's "enemy." It's time for the OT to become OT again.

Links updated 10/4/10 ~ Min
Jackalope wrote:
FYI:

Putting "please don't move" or "this is for the OT" in the title or first post will NOT save your IMVU related threads from being moved to the correct forums (or locked, so you can repost there).

Neither will adding a pointless topic to an IMVU related topic (ie "discuss: cauliflower")

If that would work, everyone would do it, and that's no good.

The forum rule prohibiting legal discussions applies to ALL legal discussions -- Real world or not, IMVU related or not.

If in doubt, please read this staff announcement. This came directly from IMVU's Legal Dept. (That's literally the voice from above, folks.)

jamidiaz wrote:
Hi all,

A reminder that absolutely no legal discussions are permitted in the forums as per the guideline below:

Legal Discussions
No legal discussion of any kind is permitted within the forums. All legal discussions must be conducted through legal council via appropriate channels. Additionally, it is prohibited to link or post legal documentation, unless approved by IMVU. Any complaints of this nature will be removed immediately, and you risk a possible official warning or suspension.

Posting this here because you guys need to know how the penalties work:

Friendly Reminders (also known as "friendly warnings"): These are a courtesy heads up. They are off the record and do not count against you.

Official Warnings are on the book and work on a 3 strike policy: After two official warnings, you are out (banned). Warnings age off after one month.

Bans: One can be banned for a one time major offense or for receiving multiple Official Warnings and not abiding by them.

Here's where it gets complicated: Bans expire at 3 times the ban length. During the time before the ban has expired, you only get one warning before being banned again.

For example, say you were banned for two weeks. During the six weeks after you get back from your ban, you are only allowed one warning before re-ban. This means that during the time your ban has not expired, rather than three strikes, you only get two.
