In regards to the gender thing, IMVU could just put "Other" and let you explain yourself as you feel comfortable.

they could very well add an "engaged" option to relationship status without causing too much of an uproar...
i mean, if your relationship is complicated, why would you want that public knowledge? "seeing someone" or just simply "other" should suffice in such an instance, so adding just "engaged" would be fine. some people actually get married in real life and are excited to tell their friends and families here on imvu that their partner has proposed.

but adding the third gender option would be a good idea. no need to have 20 to differentiate. just "other".

Male
Female
Other
and just let people explain their identities how they please~

so, realistically, with so much demand... it will probably happen eventually x'D

i'm having a hard time understanding why people are saying "no" to the third gender option. who's right is it to them that someone doesn't qualify into either category, just because they identify as they were born?

that's like two cars stopped at a stop sign, and one's paying attention and the other one isn't... and a car FLIES through without stopping, and the one guy saw it and the other didn't...... just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

try to think about the people (like myself) who don't identify as either male nor female, and get's stuck with having to hide my gender. that's not fair, to have to hide who i am because of judgementals and people who are afraid of the modern days. i should have a right to exist, too, my heart is made of more gold than most "religious" who boycott God's children.

and hey, i'm not sayin'.... i'm just sayin.
guys, CHILL. having a third gender option will not effect your life whatsoever. you're still male. you're still female. but i don't want to hide anymore, and i'm CERTAIN that i'm not the only one.

Zilevo you do exist and having another label of other will not magically change your existence to some accepting non-existent faery land . I'm not trying to argue with you here simply pointing out the fact that those who are being judgemental you probably will never change . Which isn't saying here to ever give up on asking for what you want . It's simply how they were born as people and just like yourself something we have to accept .
Again I'm not against your idea but either way it doesn't matter to me if it happens or not , all though I do prefer an other listing as you mentioned . .

To elaborate on my views within the imvu community and a similar issue as yourself . You see I have an odd set of circumstances where being a creator and the fact that imvu is mostly in my opinion designed around female shoppers being the majority . Thus the clothing I make is mostly all female items , so to say when I am chatting on imvu even though I'm a guy I will be a female avatar dressed in the girl outfits I designed . I've even commissioned from other creators to design female outfits for me and wear those most often . More often than not due to also hiding my gender much alike yourself I get questioned about what I am . This is confusing to people even when I explain about creating the clothes in which I'm dressed .

Then not to be insulting in any way or to anyone but this opinion of mine is again more often than not taken as insulting to others . . . Being a guy who likes to see females more than males it only makes sense to me that my paper doll/imvu avatar is a female . Most users have some attachment to their avatars whereas to me the reality is she / he has little to do with me and isn't me but just a device to interact with others . Also you may see and now understand that being a guy i do not like to shop , nor like to dress up a guy avatar because I consider that a very strange feeling . To me those who may consider me gay or weird for being a girl I have the exact opposite opinion where guys who dress up their little guy paper dolls as an imvu avatar is a bit for lack of a better word and not to be homophobic - is more gay than being a girl because they are looking at and shopping for guys clothes . Unlike the real world where i dont mind buying a pair of jeans or getting fitted for a tuxedo , imvu is not the real world and I have no emotional outrages when it comes to my avatar . . Its like those who get all crazy when someone touches thier avatar . . YOU as a person aren't being touched so that idea to me to be offended by a virtual kiss , hug or whatever is ridiculous to me . . This opinion is often met with incredible opposition . Whereas the majority of those I discuss this subject with think the exact opposites of me and think I'm gay for having a female avatar . About half the users I discuss this subject joking or not say/joke i'm transgendered . My avatars often will have short hair and even though female look guyish . . .

Oh and I may add here that I'm not the only one in my house or wheresoever I may be such as at a friends or relatives who uses my account . More often than not it will actually be a female who is operating my avatar . .

Anyway years of this non-sense and having to explain all that its a simple matter of the fact that certain sets of people are simply intolerant of those aspects of life . This humors me so is another reason i refuse to change for thier comfort , it's like get over yourself . Now on one hand we must fight for our rights to party how we wish and on the other hand most people who take the time to bust on you even if it seems insulting that is again just how they are . . In actuality that is simply how they interact with others and even though it seems unfriendly they probably wouldn't take time to interact with us if they didn't actually like us . Your friends will make fun of you is a simple fact of life and isn't something to get all politically correct about .

So I believe the reason you are getting no votes on the other gender is people are sick and tired of hearing about this . . They don't really care much alike myself one way or the other and are accepting no matter who you are . To them it is a non-subject and low priority over other more important ( to them ) issues . btw to let you no I voted yes .

Now I hope none of that came off as insulting to you or anyone . Simply telling part of my story to help the understanding of how it is . One last thing to add here . . IMVU is pretty much a hook up site , grrlz looking for their dream guy and guys looking to perv on grrls , lol . While not entirely the case as many are just here to chat or play around . . Guys are in my case the ones who freak out about hiding your gender or being a girl when you maybe a guy . . Because they may be looking to score , have been fooled before or whatever the circumstances . Silly to me because you or i aren't looking to hook up with them in the first place nor are they even interested in us in that way to begin with , but perhaps that helps your understanding .

I agree completely, it shouldn't have to be an issue at all, that's why i think the third option would just get rid of the issue altogether.
i think that if you label it as other, it will keep people more open-minded about who they're speaking with, especially in your case where it literally does not matter what you're using as a "glorified username".
now, i may use my imvu for my own purposes, hanging out with friends and making cool outfits, but it was once a nice place. it has only /become/ a hook-up place since the ads went everywhere, and since the mobile app release. (not to say there weren't always hook-ups, but it wasnt the primary reason for it at the time)
there were times when the people on imvu were mad chill, and you'd walk into any chat room that suited you and it would be civil and entertaining. But now there's a lot of posers, rude people, and young kids from the generation that never grew up themselves all looking to have sex far too early and talk to strangers "safely".
all i want to say for one: is dear god y'all got time for that.
and two: having a third option as other, other's would be forced to ask, or accept it as it stood and let you explain if you felt comfortable with that.
you would be able to easily explain if you wanted to: "i'm a developer, and i'm advertising the stuff i design for the larger market of supply and demand that is the imvu catalog" and i would be able to say "i don't identify as either one, so just treat me as it feels right for the mood and clothing i'm wearing".
it would just be for whatever reason, be listed as other. why does it have to be hidden?
