Hello guys, I wanted to learn deriving product and I just know I'm in a very first beginning. To make things clear I was always stucked with using my 3D software and I'm not well taught at school during software lessons. So, I hope people out there will gain a knowledge base where people exchange their talent. And right now I'm still stuck at making a xmf file using 3D max, I couldn't search for the attach button in modifier so I hope someone would tell me where is it.
IMVU help room: thanks all the staff for their participation in assiting others (Qleuphy and Viselc, ...)
Cosmix: thanks for introduce me to the very first forum I got.
Thanks Angel: you got the best part of all and you gave me a word by word tutorials, it really become my dictionary.
To Iris: thanks for helping me out I know it is very good deed to help others, for that I will remember you
Thanks Nesaurs: you gave me the exporters |

you need to have the mesh open in max, in this case the female avatar mesh to see that window.
if you don`t have anything in max , it will not show much of anything, but the tools of max.. _________________

Thanks Iris, you help alot in the step, after I went to my 3D max screen I figure it out that's the foolish question to ask the small screenie thingy as I found it afterward. And, I already read most of the head forum like: imvu files from nersaurs and some other contributor such as many others programs' tutorial...
Looking, I found my attach button and I got my small screenie thingy from double clicking at space belongs to the application buttons row. It pop out with selection and I found my small screenie thingy.

Thanks Jale for adding me friend. I'm also figure it out that the mesh is actually the first step of all. So I downloaded from Nesaurs post and I found a chair exactly like the one in imvu... when I open the downloaded file I saw the file is zip so I went inside the zip file which my computer can directly excess those zip file and I copy the chair file I want and I paste again somewhere. So I got my chair and the person as you can see in the bottom of my window...
I still wonders of many question like why am I seeing those wyring figure from my chair files and where is the nodes and vertex that the post always reminds me... anyone know how to manage vertex and nodes pls. |

depend what you are making , is how is done.. different kind of meshes have litle different steps like an accessory from a furniture mesh..
the basics are the same , but to make them work on imvu some steps are different.
it will help to point you to the right tutorial if you say what you are making..
ps.. learn max terminology, it will make it easy for you to follow tutorials. _________________

if you are very new whit max, look for waltzing mouse tutorials, it will show you how to set the view ports on max, and help you understand how the work.. in wire frame , vertex etc.
did you read any of the build in tutorial,that come whit max?
or did you a least watched the video tutorials?
if not , that`s where you want to start. _________________

Thanks Jale for giving me a correct channel before doing my 3D max, I'm no 3D max student but I used to watched the videos in youtubes and I used to everyday figure out what is it about. So everything is in broken imaginary. I wonder if you could provide me a direct link to watch the videos for Max terminology and build tutorial pls, I've eyes sore and has been searching for the past hours for such tutorial and need to go for some rest now... |

Sounds 1253 pages is thick, maybe I would just learning from Angel's tutorial... honestly I have a few books that I bought it new long time ago which also quite thick but I haven't flip on it since day 1. So bible knowledge is not good in my case. Thanks again for so genuine information and I will share this part with the next comer. |

I would strongly suggest that anyone wanting to mesh with Max for IMVU, that they start with learning Max. Choose your best way - some like books, some like video tutorials, some like one-on-one with a teacher. Learn Max, at least the basics, THEN try to learn IMVU.
At a minimum, you should know about:
* what is a viewport?
* how to rotate a viewport and zoom in/out
* how to create objects
* how to convert an object or add a modifer to allow you to modify the mesh (Edit Poly)
* how to use modifiers and the modifier stack
* how to create a material with a bitmap texture and apply it to a mesh
* linking one object to another
Those are the very very basics someone should know in order to work with max and IMVU. Some may not know much about linking or materials - maybe they load an existing MAX file and it just works. But soon, that list above must be known.
@Kilian: I'd suggest taking Jaleman's advice, or similar, and try to learn some of the basics of Max.

Kilian1987,
You have to choose , decide and focus on with one mesh. You can't learn if you are doin different mesh at the same time..It makes your mind blow. I got your message but what are you trying to make? furniture or accessory? Pls clear it..
I'm no knowledge about 3d..
As my experienced from the past 3 months, I learned them on trial and error. By asking someone also and I never had a book. Just like you watching videos, tutorials, and the most important is to play the max on your own way (The good advise of Ms. AdelleG)..Thats's why all my mesh have a millions of polygon then jaleman told me to low it. and never know how to low the polygon so I play it again until I found out how. AND of course the nerseus advice are the best way on how to learn step by step... I know you can do it too cuz I did
