I was browsing through several different rp rooms the other day when I came across a room which i really liked. The players were awesome and very good roleplayers. The only thing that sort of confused me, was a time traveler in the room. I didn't have a problem with it, in fact I liked it Very Happy . When one of the characters said it was a strange character to have, she responded, 'i'd rather not to have a home-sick traveler as all of characters, so i changed it up.' Out of character.

So my question is, what is your view of time travelers in role play and some basic rules and guidelines for them?

I have nothing against time traveling characters unless they come in to tell me the past or future of my specific room, manipulating the history of future of my game without consent. Now a possible future is one thing but THE Definite future not so much.

Recently someone came into my Vintage Village RP as Alucard from Hellsing. That's an anime in which Dracula was not killed by Professor Van Helsing but actually taken captive and used as a vampire hunter with the alias Alucard (Dracula spelt backward). He tried claiming he was my Dracula from the future. This bothered me because I was not playing the version from Hellsing (though my version has been captured by Professor Van Helsing). The version in Hellsing is kind of.. insane and I don't like someone else telling me what definitely will happen to my character.

I play a time traveler. I find her very fun. She is a history buff, so she went back in time simply to observe. However, she has quite the temper, and is very social, so she can not help but to get herself involved with the things going on.

That would be annoying, the idea of a time traveling character coming back in the time to tell you what you might be or what to watch out for: okay. Telling you your supposed 'destiny': not okay.

I've played with other Draculas before, usually one of us or the other is from an alternate reality or a "possible future" but when this person did that I was taken aback.

Advice for a time traveler.. I like this thread because my character is a time traveler in some sense of the word.

I guess it would depend on how you want to play your character, but take a moment to look through the eyes of the character and envision the world through their eyes.

I like playing medieval fantasy, but my character ended up in a modern time RP. Where my character was from never saw a car, or a street light that changed colors, or the huge skyscrapers of Chicago. So I tried to think like my character, what would her reactions be to all of these things.

So I guess that would be my little advice for people who would want to play a time traveler. Look at where your character is, through the eyes of your character.

I have a SORT of time traveller character based on a videogame.

She's from another planet, Much like earth, but futuristic earth. Teleporters, spaceships, you name it.

My character names planets by level of development. So her planet is at full development. Earth would be halfway developed, and victorian earth, would be very underdeveloped. Anything below her planets technology counts as underdeveloped.

By law, no one can travel to underdeveloped planets by ship because it would mess with the natural harmony of things, really. (I think earth would be pretty shocked if a huge technological marvel ufo landed in the middle of london or new york!)
But, After an attack on her planet, she escaped in an escape pod, and has no choice but to land on an underdeveloped planet, trying to keep her technology out of sight.

...So it is the future, by way of...that's more or less how the planets will eventually develop...but I guess it's more like space travel.
Why did I post here, i'm such a doof >.<
I'm sorry for wasting time! >.<

This doesn't make much sense to me. The victorian era was about a hundred and fifty years ago and ended about a hundred and eleven years ago. In the history of the human race, in all of human history, the thousands of years we have been developing you're telling me that we went from very under-developed to half-way developed in just one century? You must hold the twentieth century in very high regard.

The Victorian era is when we got the light bulb, street lights, automobiles, the telephone, the moving picture camera, the record player (records still being the highest quality form of audio recording), and long before that time there was the Renaissance period and before that the Roman empire...

And yes, yours does sound like more of a space traveler unless it is an actual version of Earth itself in the future that she comes from. I guess it all depends on your definition of space-time.

Hehe, you're right, halfway was wrong >.<
Sorry, But what I meant was, basically, Victorian era counts as more underdeveloped than 20th century, for example. And 20th would be more underdeveloped than 30th.

Didn't know you had videocameras then, though. Awesome. o.o

Well anyways, hopefully that clears up my meaning.

And it is basically another planetary version of earth, Humans live there, and act as humans, basically...

Ah, anyway, hope that clears it up.

Oh, but my mistake helps too! ^-^
It shows it's important to know your history if you're playing a time traveller, right? ^-^

Sorry for the confusion..>.<

First one was invented in 1888.

I personally love playing as my time travelers, I love coming up with the ways they get around time. My characters device for traveling it sort of like an ipod nano with the watch strap. It's called an 'oposide' (yay for random words! Very Happy). It's very fun, although I've seen several times where the so called 'spy' made his/her technology 'beep' or make other noises/ or hinted very heavily they were from the future.

I tried making a time traveler character a few months back. Though she ended up with more steampunk theme, I hadn't made up much of her background before i tried her out in a room. My entrance ended up with the fact that she had accidently stumbled into an old time machine. Most of the entrance focused on how she was literally thrown out of the portal and rolled onto the "airship" ((the room)) floor inside the cabin. So she became a clumsy time traveler of sorts. Not sure if I dare try and make a new one
