So yeah i'd love if something would be explained to all users signing up for IMVU, that a profit on an average item in the catalog to the dev is 200-500 credits because around half of it go to IMVU, i just got blocked by someone because he wanted a special request and he blocked me before i could explain that if i submit this special product of him and he buys it i get only the 200 credits profit and cant even pay the submission fees. This is really annoying me.

Imvu states they aren't responsible for your submissions that means you're pretty much just putting a disclosure on you hp. It's basically because imvu doesn't set the profit the devs do. So if you want more than 200 to 500 credits per purchases you have to set it that way. Think of it as you setting the value of the effort you put into a project.

I think imvu should have a far better FAQ about ALL the things on their website and client. It sounds like a big job right? Yes it is. However, I have seen such an FAQ and a FAQ index on another website that is a work of brilliance. It is also updated straight away when any changed are made.

On the flip side, the customer who asked for a custom made product and blocked you when you refused, is a complete and utter tool. I wouldn't waste one second thinking about such a loser. You can't blame imvu for idiots like that.

Not all my profits are 200 on up. Most are below 200. A lot of devs do just 100. Just making a point that imvu can't inform users of that because they don't know what profits are always set.

imvu gets a cut from the total sale profit, as does the mesher. They get more than the submitting dev does in most cases.

If someone thinks that a special request is going to be cheap, then they're a fool. They'll have to find a fool dev to make it cheap for them.

I say don't sweat it over such an incident. You can only give them all the information up front once a request has been made.

I always worried that my prices where too high. I kinda browsed the catty before hand to get an idea of the price range that everyone was at. Then I realized the more work I put into something the more I should get. So you have to play it by ear. Most of my profit is 50-300 credits, depending upon the item.

I used to think this too, but now I price my profits by demand. For instance, one item I created in half an hour has been selling like crazy. I've sold over 2000 units at a 250 cr profit each - 500K so far or about $250 in real cash, not bad for a half hour. Other items I've spent many hours on detail, only to see them languish in sales. I could set my profit to 0 cr and they still wouldn't budge. The catalog is so huge that it's almost impossible to make your product stand out.

I make most of my credits off commissions, which I just now got enough credits to actually DO, thank god for cell phones, anyway but I only price my hairs at about 60-100 credits. And larger products still get a 60 boost. I try to keep my prices at 360 total, not because I'm cheap but because I genuinely want people to have affordable stuff.

That's why it's hard to post any sort of "FAQ" each dev has their own pricing method.

With requests/commissions, I usually require payment before I submit the product.

Usually I only set my profits between 1cr-100cr LOL

I always require payment before I submit an item. And agreed with the statement that IMVU needs to update their FAQ system. It's basically pointless.

I set all my profits to a number that rounds out the price (if possible) too like 500, 550, 600 creds. Most of my profits are also under 100 creds, except for my super-high-sellers, which are 100 creds.

Maybe if I get big I'll jack the prices up, but they serve me well for now.

Making a major profit is easy, IF you find a well made, low cost mesh. I've been lucky enough to do that a few times. So when the sell...I get a huge smile on my face. I'm pretty picky with my meshes, too. But I do believe the tier system needs some restructuring. Once you gain a level...you should never lose it. It's like a kick in the stomach when it happens. Creativity canna be forced. I refuse to pump out utter crap, like a mindless big box store, just to keep my level. ~knocks on the glass~ "Ya listening IMVU?"

When I do a special order, it may be a one of a kind that does not go in the catalog. Personal pictures or personalized items. I make sure I let the requester know he is responsible for all DEV costs, plus my time in creating the item. I usually make a min of 500 credit profit on personal items. If it is an item that can be resold in my catalog, I use judgement based on past sales of like items. Usually I will charge DEV costs, then gift the item to the requester. This has always worked fine for me. I also get DEV costs up front.
